I never really got into the whole boba hype when I was growing up. Still, the prospect of boba on the other side of the Atlantic piqued my interest when I was in the neighborhood... First things first: you'll definitely feel the dollar-to-pound conversion when you peruse the menu. While I am no stranger to paying extra for some of the fancier toppings (like jellies), I was a little disappointed to see that even the boba tapioca balls cost an extra £0.50. (Maybe this is normal outside of the States, where the drink is known as "milk tea" instead of "boba"? Because otherwise I find it hard to believe that boba can be sold without, well, the boba...) I went with the Assam black milk tea because I find that choosing the most basic of milk teas is the best way to evaluate a boba spot. It wasn't as sweet as the basic black milk teas that I usually can find in the U.S. (understandable, as most drinks in the U.S. are probably sugarier). The boba was fresh (to be expected, as I had pay extra for it...) At the end of the day, I had paid £4.50 for the regular size of some pretty average tasting boba. Often times, boba places sell old, pre-made boba that has been sitting all day. This makes it very starchy and instead of being chewy, you can bite through it too easily. If it's really old and disgusting, it'll break in half. Long story short, this place isn't too bad! I also got the lychee green tea with lychee jelly! Also very tasty! If you're not sure what lychee tastes like, it's sweet with a bright, citrusy flavor. It's very refreshing on a hot day. I'd give it a four but the staff are super sweet and it was clean as well! When we came here the other day there were tons of seats, there's a bar with stools on one side and some little tables with square stools on the other. And when the place starts to fill up (as it did while we were finishing our drinks) it still feels nice and comfortable. The bubble tea is very authentic, if you get the original with coconut jelly it's basically Taiwan in a drink. I've tried just about everything and they all taste almost exactly like the bubble tea I had in Taiwan. You can't go wrong with any combination here. The pearls are wonderful, really soft but still a bit chewy. Coconut jelly is good but doesn't really add an extra flavour although it could be subtle and my tea may be overpowering it. I prefer the fruit teas especially passion fruit and mango during summer, perfect refreshment when the weather gets really hot! The menu is also quite varied though I have yet to ask if they will make me specific tea combinations not offered on the menu. This location seems to have a lot more off-peak times even on the weekend so I think I'll ask if they can make me a unique fruit tea blend.
