We drove to Hastings, Mi via Chief Noonday road and our Fall color cravings were satisfied. When we rolled into town we chose the Riverwalk Cafe for a quick lunch near the Titabawase (sp?) River. The cafe is a modest and attractive blue diner that seems to attract blue collar folks which is a good sign of solid food comfort. My SO chose the Classic burger while I chanced the cafe's Rueben. Our friendly waitress promptly took our order and we turned our gaze beyond a wide window to the color riot surrounding us. Our sandwiches were good. Hamburger was well done and could have benefitted from some medium-rare juiciness. My Rueben contained chunky corned beef that was claimed to be house smoked. The lightly applied smoke did not conceal the great taste of brisket! Our generous portions of house made chips were tasty and mindfull of a togo box. We took a moment to cross the street to gaze at the passing waters and take our ease for a moment then moved on to the next adventure! SWEET!

Really don't think this should be a table option. Food was edible, nothing exciting. Staff started vacuuming right near us as we were eating. Went to drink my water and my lips met a spider on the edge of my cup. Had to spit it out. Staff was fine. There was a whole dispute with the party before us saying that they couldn't be seated if their whole party wasn't there yet, even though they kept a saying that they were all present.

The lunch options are only served from 11-4. Besides coffee, they have wine, beer, pop, and kambucha. I got the masala chai, which was nice and not overly sweet. For meal I got the hippie ki yay, and I enjoyed that flatbread, it is vegan. The spinach dip is also good but different than what you'd expect. It is not too creamy and has a little tangy taste. But I liked that a lot, so I enjoyed it. The ambiance is lively and energetic. There's a lot of seating available, and different types including a massive couch. It is noisy in there with everyone talking, but I dont think its too bad if you want to study there. They do have a stage where they have bands perform, they also have trivia nights. I hope to check out one of the trivia nights. There is a decent size parking lot in the back. This parking lot was filled on a Tuesday night, so its definitely a spot to go and check out. This is one of the best places I have been to in GR! Highly recommend it!!

You just don't expect to find fine dining in such a rural setting. We arrived a half hour before our reservation (must have) being that we were coming from so far away. We were told our table wouldn't be available until close to our reservation time. No problem. Four Roses has a very nice bar. My wife had a glass of wine and after perusing their pretty impressive bourbon list, I ordered my drink. First observation-bourbon and wine very reasonably priced. I also like the fact they had large cubes so I could enjoy my drink before it got watered down. Cubes were perfectly clear as well. We were shown to our table about ten minutes early and started to review the menu. Four Rose's menu has many staples but changes often adding specials. Our server came by quickly and answered our questions. We had many as there were so many great dishes to consider. Rolls right out of the oven were also brought to our table. My wife ordered White Fish Grenoble and I had the Maple Mustard Baby Back Ribs. I didn't care for the vegetables offered so I substituted rice. My wife was not overly impressed with her choice calling it very bland with almost no flavor. She loved the vegetables however. Portions were large-just not to her liking. My ribs were excellent. The maple mustard sauce was so good I asked my server for more. We both thought the rice was brittle - perhaps overcooked. Four Rose's is also known for their deserts and we were tempted. I had amaretto coconut creme pie. Excellent. My wife loves toffee pudding so she was excited to try it when she saw it on the menu. Unfortunately it was more of a toffee bread pudding then actual pudding. The server quickly took it off the bill when she returned and saw it was barley touched. Our server needs to be cloned as she was so good and responsive. Even with these short comings, our experience was excellent and we will be back.

Our waitress was very friendly greeted us offered us drinks, my husband got a beer and water for me. We looked over the menu and asked for recommendations. My husband ordered the big Lake breeze beef, and it came with a scoop of sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, and green beans. The meat was so tender he could cut it with a fork and he licked the plate clean. I ordered the chili wrapped flank steak with Gorgonzola cream and jalapeño relish. I was asked if medium rare is OK for the steak, but when it did come out, it was more on the rare side. The jalapeño relish was not too spicy, the meal really was delicious. we can never visit without getting dessert! my husband ordered the peanut butter pie, it was a huge portion and he absolutely loved it. I ordered the ice packs lemon pie, which is more of a custard, and it came with the homemade whipped cream. It was very good. We can never leave without getting a piece of the traditional cheesecake to go. I couldn't believe how busy the restaurant was for Wednesday night. I was glad that we had a reservation. The service is always exceptional in the food is great highly recommend to anyone in the area.

The second I walked into Uncommon Coffee Roasters, I was hit with the smell of fresh bread. It immediately took me back to my grandma's kitchen. She used to bake a loaf of bread just for me--with no nuts, because she knew that's how I liked it. Walking into her house, I always knew exactly what she was making. It's funny how a smell can transport you somewhere in an instant. Then I looked over at the bakery case. Mistake. Everything looked fresh, homemade, and absolutely beautiful. We had plans to spend the rest of the day walking around Saugatuck, so I talked myself out of buying a loaf... and regretted that decision before we were even back out the door. Despite the line stretching from the counter almost to the entrance, the staff handled it like absolute pros. Everyone behind the counter seemed completely in sync, moving quickly without making the experience feel rushed. Watching them work was almost entertaining in itself. The shop has a colorful, artsy personality that fits Saugatuck perfectly. It feels modern without losing that cozy small-town charm. Between the artwork, the cheerful cups (seriously... how cute are they?), and people scattered throughout reading, chatting, working on laptops, or simply enjoying their coffee, it felt like the kind of place you naturally want to linger. As for the coffee... We ordered three different drinks and somehow all landed on winners. My Don't Be Salty cold brew (cold brew with caramel and salted caramel cold foam) was phenomenal. Another in our group ordered the Caramel Silk latte, and judging by the smile after the first sip, I'd call that a success too. I honestly couldn't tell you what our third friend ordered... only that all three of us agreed we'd happily order our drinks again. Some coffee shops are just a quick caffeine stop. Uncommon Coffee Roasters feels like part of the Saugatuck experience. We'll absolutely be back... and next time, I'm buying the bread,
