I went in a hater, but I left a believer, because the World's Largest Wind Chime actually chimes! There's a rope that you can pull that moves the piece. It makes a satisfying tinny sound. That's all I needed to hear. This really is the World's Largest Wind Chime. The World's Largest Wind Chime is one of the "world's largest" items that you can see in Casey, Illinois. This small town is full of large things, and this wind chime is one of them. If I were creating a town full of large things, I'm not sure I would think to include a wind chime. That seems like a random thing to make big, but what do I know? I function from a place of regular-sized things, and my mind has not been opened to the possibilities of large things on a global scale. There is lots of street parking near the wind chime, so it's easy to get to and there's no excuse to not see it!

hot take, i think it's only worth stopping if you're passing through or it's a short detour rather…read morethan making a whole trip for it. the wind chime is honestly underwhelming, it looks very cool but the sound is rather dull. the teeter totter was not being operated, it was a saturday at "opening" time. the pitchfork is a few minutes down the road (have to drive) and is held together by 4 painted ratchet straps. it is neat, but not worth planning a whole day as there's only really a couple hours of things to do/look at and that's with taking your sweet time.

The Big Pencil might not be the world's largest pencil, but it's still a big freaking pencil. Some…read moremight even say it's a giant pencil. It's 32.5 feet long, whereas the real world's largest pencil is 76 feet and change. It looks sharp, pointing down to the sidewalk the way that it does, but of course it's not. It's a No. 2 pencil, the best kind to fill out scantrons. I'm hoping that Casey, Illinois, will somehow create a world's largest scantron. This big pencil is located by a coffee shop and t-shirt shop, on the north side of W. Main Street.

The World's Largest Mailbox might be my favorite largest thing in Casey, Illinois…read more It's not just a large object to observe. You can climb some stairs up to the top of the mailbox and hang out inside! I felt very tiny, peering out of the edge of the box onto downtown Casey. It's a great view from such great heights. One thing to note is that I don't recall seeing an elevator. So for people who use wheelchairs, have strollers or have mobility issues, it might not be possible to go up to the top of the mailbox. There's also a real mailbox inside this fake mailbox that you can put letters in. (Make sure you put a stamp on them!) I believe that your letter will indicate that it was mailed from Casey, a small town full of big things. There are some signs inside the mailbox that tell about the history of the World's Largest Mailbox, and a bench that you can sit on while you ponder how you made it to this point in your life where you're sitting inside of a mailbox.

Even this Yelp listing lists this roadside attraction as a "giant bird cage." But do we really need to bandy about with the superlatives in order to appreciate the grandness of this bird cage? I don't think so. Let's just appreciate it for what it is: a Giant Bird Cage. This really is a very large bird cage! Multiple people can get into this thing. It's a good photo op, for sure. There's also a bench in the cage that swings, so that's fun. Giant Bird Cage is located on the far end of the main drag of large things, near the World's Largest Mailbox.

One might be able to debate that fact, if one wanted to. In any case, this is one of the "world's largest" things that you can see in Casey, Illinois. This is a small town full of large things, and the World's Largest Rocking Chair is one of those things. You can get right underneath this rocking chair, if you wanted to. Kind of. There's a chain-link fence that surrounds it, so you can only get so close. There is parking right in front of this monument, so it's easy to get to. It's the world's largest rocking chair! I don't know what else to say.

Many are located on this street and around the adjacent blocks. From where the barbershop pole stands, you'll see the World's Largest Mailbox, the World's Largest Bird Cage, and The Big Pencil (not the world's largest, but certainly very large). This is actually a functioning barbershop pole -- it rotates around like a smaller version does!

This interesting and functional barber pole is 14 feet tall and just about 4 feet wide. Spinning like barber poles do. If you're driving on I-70 between Saint Louis and Terre Haute, this is an interesting and fun detour to stretch your legs instead of hitting up a rest area or truck stop. Most of the stuff is nearby this one. It is not actually the World's Largest. I spotted one in Oregon that is a whopping 72 feet tall though that one is not spinning or active. It stands outside The Hometown Butcher Shop, which feels almost too perfect for an adorable giant pink piggy bank. This one isn't made from pipes or industrial materials. It's a bright, cartoonish pig that fits right in with Casey's love of oversized, cheerful roadside attractions. It's easy to spot, easy to photograph, and adds a big of humor to your walk through town. It's not the world's largest piggy bank - the Guinness Book of Records says that one is 29 feet tall and is in Colombia - but it still delivers that classic Casey charm. Even without a Guinness record, it's a cute, memorable stop and a great example of how this town turns everyday objects into something worth getting off the highway to see.
