Kitty Kitty Bang Bang has my heart! There's an interesting mustard flavor right now that is surprisingly good! Good service and clean.

The service was solid, although the flies in the seating area were a bit too enthusiastic. I enjoyed my rhubarb crumble scoop ... outside.

Came to try the ice cream because we've heard good reviews. Walked over from the Doubletree and arrived to find a sign saying they closed an hour early tonight. A woman came up right after us and was shocked that they were closed as well. It was her birthday and she was coming to get a hot fudge sundae. So we will not find out how good this ice cream is and I get to fly back to Florida read more

I accidentally locked my keys In my car in the parking lot (I live above a store nearby) so my (black) neighbor was helping me get back in. he notified nearby stores including this location so they wouldn't be worried. the workers (hiding in the back doorway) were pointing and giggling like children because they called the cops on us. after we got back in the car and proved that it was ours we went in to the shop to ask why they did that and they admitted to calling because he was black and said "well what do you expect". sucks because I have supported this business for many years and now I will never return. I don't have room for racists in my neighborhood. read more

Place is supper small and now that restrictions have been lifted made us feel a little uncomfortable but we were in and out. Appreciated seeing the employees still wearing a mask. Thank you! Ice cream was good! Need more outdoor seating but a fun small town ice cream shop read more

Big River Scoop - a sign for ice cream - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Bemidji, Minnesota

The ice cream was disappointing! The texture was amazing (thick and creamy) but the flavor was so faint! It had the essence of ice cream without the taste. The banana cream and the peach had so little flavor. I really wanted to like it but it just wasn't up to par. Would like to try the mini donuts but the price is excessive. Also, having the bathrooms right where you walk in is not the most inviting. read more

This place is perfect if you have children. Paul and Babe are across the street where there is a nice playground and then this place for a great treat! Very nice staff and great variety of ice cream for both kids and adults read more

I really wanted to like this place, but $3.25 for this small scoop didn't match all of the glowing reviews that are represented here. Maybe I just got somebody who had a bad night, but for $3.25 I can spend my money at a different place and get more bang for my buck. read more

Big River Scoop - An overpriced scope of ice cream - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Bemidji, Minnesota

I rarely treat myself to 'full fat' ice cream, but I was in town visiting on vacation, so why not?:)) It is a quaint little shop across from the massive Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox, so easy to find. The tempting aroma of baking cones wafts out to lure you inside. Once there, you'll find many different flavors. The eternal question: what to order? As if by magic, the person behind the counter tells me: "you can get a 3 scoop sampler for $4.25". Woo Hoo! That worked for me:) I tried a key lime, mint chocolate chip, and some other flavor (it was so darn good that I blanked out - what was that third flavor???). The takeaway is that you cannot go wrong here. Super friendly staff, a small seating area, clean bathrooms, and the chance to get samples of any flavor, and then get a sampler of 3 flavors. Plenty of rich, thick, yummy ice cream. I doubt that I would go back - this splurge was enough for me. Go ahead......surrender....give it a try! read more

Best little ice cream shop in Northern Minnesota. Great staff and selection. Owners truly care about their customers which shows in how the shop is run. Fun location by Paul and Babe too! read more

Wide selection of different flavors so there's something for everyone, including unique flavors. Would not recommend other foods. They should just stick with the ice cream. The black licorice is my favorite flavor. The service is also good. read more

Yet another great place to find another great ice cream here in MN! Nicely located across from the Paul and Babe statues in the heart of Bemidji, the Big River Scoop is the place to get handmade ice cream and other frozen treats! Like many of these local small ice cream parlors, they have a fair selection of flavors and include many originals to chose from. It's always nice to have these treats available and something to stick out from the typical things you get at the big chain ice cream places. I really can't say anything poor about the place other than I wish they had a bit larger selection of flavors. What they had was really really good and cones tasted good too. Generous portions and good ingredients = great ice cream experience. Check them out! read more

It's ok. They didn't have my favorite kind of ice cream, Java chunk, so I settled for espresso which is a poor substitute. After seeing the amount they put on my son's single I ordered that as it was plenty of ice cream for a 53 year old dad. They also had cinnamon which was a childhood favorite so I asked if I could have a scoop of both because the single is literally two plus scoops of ice cream. They said no they can't mix flavors and if I wanted two flavors I'd have to order a double. Seeing the single I knew that'd be way more ice cream than could eat or want to eat. I settled for the two scoop single of espresso. It's dumb that they won't mix flavors on the single. It's a very generous two scoop serving of ice cream and they could easily mix flavors. I doubt I'll be back. read more

Portions are awesome! Staff is friendly and gave samples. The lemon meringue ice cream is crisp and delightful. You must go here! read more

This ice cream would taste good on a flip flop. When you look up ice cream in the flavor town dictionary, you find a picture of The Big River Scoop! read more

Very nice local business. Friendly employees and a good variety of different ice creams.

Their service is average, they don't talk much but they do what they are supposed to do. The ice cream is great and they have a big selection of toppings, ice cream, and they also update their flavors often. Definitely recommend on a hot day! read more

Absolutely love their ice cream!! Cutest little ice cream shop! Zanzibar and "Tired as a Mother" are my two favorite flavors.

Best ice cream in Bemidji...smooth with creamy with a homemade feel! Very friendly staff! A must stop every year in Bemidji!

Just a nice, homemade ice cream store. Great portions, nice price, friendly service. Got a waffle vibe and if the cone was a little thicker, they would have gotten the fifth star. Cone literally fell apart in my hand. read more

They don't make their ice cream, they use that Chocolate Shoppe Cow brand, but I love that brand. Very good ice cream and nice employees. They have super cute menu items too like "Babe's Raft" and "Paul Bunyan's Canoe." What a great way to try many flavors!!! They definitely have the theme of Bemidji incorporated into their stored which I love! read more

We visited on vacation with our kids and loved it. Homemade ice cream with many flavors that you don't find everywhere but were really good (and with some fun names!). Better yet, they offer "rafts" and "canoes" which are basically sampler flights with your pick of 3-5 flavors. The staff is friendly, the ice cream was really good and the prices were reasonable. read more

My wife, son and I stopped in for some ice cream after a terrible meal. Heard this was the best ice cream in town. Maybe the best ice cream I have ever had. My family decided if we are in Bemidji, we will definitely come back. read more

This place was wonderful and at a great location too! The staff were very helpful in helping me decide on which flavor of ice cream I wanted; even giving me samples of each! I ended up choosing "this s%!t just got real" and it was very good. It's a little expensive, but much less than a visit to cold stone. Overall I think they did a nice job with the place. The atmosphere was inviting, although the entrance was a little weird. It's a great place to get ice cream on your way to do some down town shopping, or on your way to visit Paul and Babe! read more

This ice cream shop is located conveniently by Paul and Babe and their hours are great too! I have tried two flavors so far (Latte Da and Pecan Nut Soy). I liked both of them and personally think these are better than others I've had back in Minneapolis. If you feel guilty after having some big scoops, you can always go for a run/walk around the lake. Definitely a must-go if you are in the area! read more

Great flavors, lots of variety, helpful staff. Love this place, a must visit when in Bemidji!

I've been here five times and it's always great. I am always very happy with the service and products. However, last night, I received service that really made me want to make sure to write a review. In the first place they supported the local marathon the prior day by giving a free root beer float to all participants (they even had a non-dairy ice cream option). They also gave runners $1-off coupons to be used at their retail location, good for the entire marathon event weekend. Therefore, my husband and I decided to use the coupons and be sure to patronize them. I really wanted to go there anyway, and that feeling was only heightened by all their marathon support/connection. This was part of my reward to myself for doing the marathon and finishing in 2nd place! My husband and I both ordered pizza (gluten-free for me). The man who I think was the owner brought my pizza out after awhile and began apologizing profusely that it was (very slightly) burned along some of the crust edge (I probably wouldn't have even thought anything of it if he hadn't mentioned it). He said he knows how delicious it is when it's cooked properly, so he was not happy that it got a little overcooked. (Yes, a few of the bites did have a burned taste, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the pizza.) He said they could cook a whole new pizza for me and make it perfectly, or I could just eat this one. I said I would just eat that one, no problem. He said he would refund the entire cost of the pizza! We were still going to order ice cream after finishing our pizza, so he handled the refund during the next transaction. What tremendous customer service! And all the while, he, and the two employees working at the same time, were so nice and great. I wish I could eat here every day! read more

This is a it spot for homemade style ice cream. I'd suggest the Paul's Canoe to start. With five of your top picks this choice gives you a great opportunity to try 5 flavors for five bucks. Then branch out. Ellie and I had black licorice, mint avalanche, key lime, brownie, and dazed and infused. All great, on point intense flavor, and the price is hard to beat. Family friendly with a great atmosphere. Can't miss. read more

Went in for a couple of cones and to try something different from DQ. I liked the shop and the layout. I enjoyed the fact and they had several fun choices for kids and adults. Will be back again this summer. read more

It's been a year since my last visit, so when I was in town with my family this past weekend, we decided to meet some friends at Big River Scoop for some pizza and ice cream before visiting Paul Bunyan and Babe. We found parking to be easy in the lot right behind the scoop shop. I was pleasantly surprised to see that many of the "cons" listed on my previous review were addressed. Not sure if that was just a coincidence, or if the owners really did pay attention! Either way, I'm pleased. We were a group of 4 adults and 5 kids and we ordered pizza slices and garlic knots. Dang, those garlic knots are tasty! The guys had to go back and order a few more. The pizza is decent. My hubby says that Giovanni's still has better pizza, but he's been loyal to Giovanni's since his college days. Anyway, I digress. We sampled lots of flavors and then placed our ice cream orders. I had the coffee flavor with chunks of chocolate and it was spectacular. Would definitely order it again. The single scoop is more than plenty and I really should have ordered a junior scoop instead. Glad to see that the bathrooms are now just open and no key is needed and they got some cool wooden tables w/ bench seating. Much better than the tacky Ikea furniture that was in there last year. See you guys next year! read more

OK, the ice cream didn't grab me because I'm not a fan of creamery-type ice cream-but hold the phone! They serve these ah-mazing pasties stuffed with-get this-the ingredients your grandmother used to put in her hot dish! Cheap and yummy lunch. They also make their own pita bread and serve it with brats and wild rice-will have to try next. read more

This place is amazing! I walked in and was impressed by the atmosphere and great view, and then I saw all the ice cream and was even more excited. There were 24 flavors to choose from, including 4 non-dairy options that my oldest child loved because she's lactose intolerant (she got a Sorbet called Carrot-Mango which was delicious). The young man working behind the counter was super professional and friendly, and offered us as many free samples as we wanted. I went with a fresh made waffle cone with a scoop of Fat Elvis Ice Cream (banana flavored with peanut butter in it!), plus I added a Babe Drop (mini-scoop for a buck) of Green Tea Ice cream. We got two huge slices of pizza - and the sauce was great, plus when I got to the crust it was covered in garlic butter! We purchased two ice cream servings, two slices of pizza, and a mini mac-n-cheese all for under $10. Try getting that at DQ or even McDonald's. This place is more than your traditional ice cream shoppe, they have great food, local arts, and a decent selection of new and used books, a corner area for kids, plus locally made jams and coffee. I went back a second time alone a couple days later and sat in their Philosophy Room (a clever side room with books and antique chairs), and ate a dish of Iced Latte Da (caffeinated ice cream!), while reading through a used book I bought there for $1. I will recommend this place to anyone visiting Bemidji. read more
