I usually go to one of the anchor stores (usually only one does it) that will open its mall doors. It's generally clean and quiet until the stores open on the weekends. I have never seen any problems with the young people and have seen the occasional security guards (Paul Blart). I've never felt threatened ever so it's a good place for walking and shopping.

They had sketchers sneakers, name brand power tools, boat shoes of all different colors and sizes and a WHOLE room just for purses. I came here for parking to visit the scope arena, and a nearby fair. I didn't really walk around but the fact that the food court only had two operating restaurants tells me all I need to know. The theaters are closed and honestly most of the stores are closed as well. So overall, great for parking to visit nearby businesses but it is sad as I had great memories of this place from about 20 years ago. Time has not been kind to malls in VA, in general.

Right now, though I love walking through it and looking at the paintings and the graffiti type murals that's on display I also really enjoy all the different art spots everything from the youth center to the display of the governor school. There's even a little train museum here. They still have a couple of staples open such as slush and Auntie Annie's pretzels. It is sad to see the movie theater closed and it's one of the best places to park at if you have to go anywhere downtown it's pretty inexpensive. We went to a play over a Chrysler and I had to pay a dollar to park. I will forever love the mall and hopefully when they do rebuild, they keep a lot of of the old soul intact. I said I want this one, another employee looked in the lockup bin, pulled one out and asked "Is this the one?" Aren't they the ones that should know? Also, the restroom wasn't very clean. The cashier was nice, though. She was definitely closed and ready to go, but she saw we only had a few items and took us anyway. They did have a few clearance racks, but some items were labeled, and some weren't, so you had to check at the register for the price. It wasn't necessarily that it was a misplaced item. But just that some weren't labeled. I'm glad we were just passing through. I'd be bummed to have this as my local Walmart.
