It's over at the Lycoming Mall and now is the time to begin looking at the future. Lycoming Mall…read morecould never overcome the loss of four anchors (Macy's, JCPenney, Sears, and Bon-Ton) with the negligent ownership of the Kohan Retail Investment Group. The loss of Jr. anchors, including Old Navy and soon Dick's will only accelerate the malls end. What's left? Burlington and Books A Million are the best-known remaining stores. Empty storefronts dominate all wings of the mall now, with the Bon-Ton wing now being almost empty. The empty storefronts of Gap, Old Navy, Hot Topic, Arby's, and f.y.e. all remain identifiable, a reminder of this mall's better times. Ownership has not been keeping up with maintenance, as the parking lot has several areas blocked off and water damage is beginning to become more visible in several places. The area surrounding the mall has started to rebound after several tough years, with replacements coming in for Gander Outdoors, Grizzly Industrial, Pier 1, and Toys R Us. This makes the property attractive for redevelopment. What will happen to the mall? Demolition. Walmart would be an obvious option for a redevelopment, as the Williamsport area lacks a Walmart Supercenter and the current store in Montoursville has no room for expansion. Some portion of the mall and Burlington could remain depending on how creative future ownership can be. I can remember when this was one of the good malls that would be a special trip to shop at. Sadly, those days are over, like the Lycoming Mall.

I live across the street from the complex that this store resides in, so I spend a great deal of…read moretime shopping at the store for my apartment needs while I'm home. It's a 45 second walk across Water Street. Of times, if I load up an entire cart, I just walk it to my apartment, unload, then walk it back! The staff is friendly, the store has a vast array of products, and they do have "DOLLAR" priced items, but don't be judgemental if you find items that are priced more than that. Dollar General is not a "Dollar Tree" or "Dollar Store," but they do sell items for a discounted rate that if you were to buy them in other stores like Ace or Weis Markets would be considerably more expensive. Recently, they started to carry the full line of Swiffer products (my apartment has all hardwood floors) and I have even bought really nice drapes and window treatments. They carry a variety of cereal products, canned goods, spices, kitchen needs, brick a brack, sodas, junk food, dairy, eggs, lunch meat and cheese, ice cream, the list goes on. Not only that, they carry name brand hygiene products for a lot less money than other "family" stores. If you are on a fixed income, or just in the habit of saving money, you can find all kinds of things that will cut down your spending habits on necessities of life to keep your household goods stocked.

I'm a huge fan of dollar stores and finding some great bargains, but this particular Dollar General…read moreisn't up to par. I like when dollar stores are actually stores where everything is $1 but this store has prices varying from $1 - $15 and probably higher. The store itself is in a convenient location and has a huge parking lot but it is not kept very clean. The items on the shelves are often disorganized but I can usually find what I'm looking for and everything appears to be labeled with price tags. They do offer a range of products from bath and beauty, grocery, household items, toys/games, seasonal items, and some clothing. The service isn't too bad. It has never taken me a long time to go through the checkout. It is not my preferred discount store but it is the closest one in town. It is decent enough that I will continue to shop there on occasion.
