Living 50 miles, I called ahead and was told by the person on the phone that there wouldn't be a problem returning socks without a receipt. I made the trip in rush hour traffic (seriously), only to be told by the manager, who confirmed that she was actually the same person I talked to on the phone, that no return could be made without the original packaging. I replied that the socks didn't come in a package, only a wraparound sticker and a plastic fastener. She replied that she knew this, but considered those things to be the package. Really?!? To any sane person, those things are just trash! I suggested that she just scan an identical item from the shelf, but she refused, saying something like there was a chance of scanning the wrong one. I knew that there were only two versions of this product, though, because I had bought one of each version! It's standard practice for retail stores to grab a matching product from the shelf in order to scan the UPC. Her refusal to do so seemed to be a deliberate attempt to save face and deny my reasonable request. This misleading info and poor service wasted my time and fuel. I reached out to the corporate office, to give them a chance to make this right, but all they did was quote the return policy, which I did not run afoul of. To be more specific, the return policy does not require that the item be in its original packaging. I will be happy to remove my poor review of Ross Stores when they issue me a refund. Until then, y'all are better off going to the competition. There's plenty out there.

Preloved is a neat concept. The consignment store features a number of booths that sellers can book…read moreto showcase their clothing, shoes and accessories to buyers which rotates on a weekly basis. Each booth is numbered and some sellers go so far as to set up small signs with their size ranges and brands offered or hang small banners from the top surface to attract customers. Each item is marked with their seller's booth number, the size, and the price. While some people may not like this approach to consignment shopping, I thought it was kind of nice to find booths that had roughly the same size and a similar taste in fashion rather than shuffling through a rack of one hundred pairs of pants. I will say that there was quite a range of prices with many pieces listed for $5 or $10 but also some items listed for $40+. I did expect to find more higher end brands but was overall satisfied with the condition of the clothes. The store was clean, well lit and organized during my visit. They have three dressing rooms with large mirrors so you can make sure items fit before purchasing as all sales are final. They could however do a better job posting more information on how the store operates. When I checked out I mentioned to the woman behind the counter that it was my first time visiting and she shared that items sometimes go on sale later in the week when sellers are getting close to the time that they must rotate their inventory around the weekend. With this in mind, if you're looking for a fresh drop stop by in the beginning of the week, if you're looking for a deal, stop by closer to Friday.

In general, they are looking for trendy, valuable clothing and reimburse at either 35% value cash or 50% value store credit. Pavement provides a valuable compromise between thrift and retail stores. Everyone loves the idea…read moreof thrifting, but it's often time-consuming and requires a sharp eye to spot the hidden gems. For a markup price, but still no where near what you'd pay at a retail store, Pavement filters a lot of the boring thrift items out. That way, you're more likely to find something you like without having to look too hard. Some of the finds here are quite impressive. I've bought a couple of graphic tees over the years, never paying more than $15 each despite them looking new. One of them has even landed in my rotation about once a week. Pavement's role as a trendy semi-thrift store works well for its location; I often find myself popping in for only 20-30 minutes, either right before or after grabbing a bite with friends, because that's all the time I need to browse the already-curated merchandise. In short, this is a great place to upgrade your wardrobe without breaking the bank or combing through hundreds of pieces at a time. The chances of walking out with something in hand is still hit or miss, similarly to any conventional thrift store, but I like my odds way better when I walk in here.
