I have had my Spring Time Water Purification System for many years and now it's paid off and the warranty has expired. Last year I was told that I would have to have the system recalibrated and because I don't live in Edmonton I would have to send it in which cost me over $300. Over the last few years I have been having trouble with this system. I clean it on a regular basis, replace plugs and I'm still having problems. Last month has been a struggle. I have left numerous messages and have had one person call to tell me his son would contact me but now it has been over a month. I have had to purchase case after case of water at my expense and had to contact a contractor, at my expense to fix the problem. I was told not to look at a different purification system that his son would contact me but this still hasn't happened. COVID is no excuse and customer service is horrible. read more

We had them install a $4200 iron filter, we were assured that it would work fine with our bored well, which we explained in detail that you cannot overload the water capacity. After the reassurance that this is the correct system, it was installed, and we now have no water. It overdrew our water and caused the pump to pump sand through our lines. We now have to replace faucets, toilet workings, lines, and possibly the hot water tank and pressure tank. In all of this, we have been trying every day to get a hold of the boss, but he will not return calls or emails. We had been without water for over a week, and had two drilling companies come look at the well to deem it "collapsed", so we now have to either buy a cistern at the tune of $20,000 or drill a new well at $26,000. Along with still trying to clear plumbing lines and fixtures now THREE weeks later. We finally got a call from the owner of Big Iron, who started cussing my husband for contacting the Better Business Bureau, said that "we could have worked something out, before you ran and got THEM involved!". Seemed most upset about that, had no concern about the water issues at all, taking no responsibility. Seemed to be getting caught in his own lies when my husband would call him out on issues, then would just get mad and start spouting about how much experience he has drilling wells for so long! My husband asked him to just be a man of honor and give us a refund for the Iron Eater. "No" was his reply. We will now be disputing the charge with Visa, and if that does not pan out, we will be contacting a lawyer (which one complainant said that worked for him to get his money back) read more

Big Iron installed the iron filter and softener combo ($7,000) and it worked for maybe 6 months. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! They also installed a reverse osmosis system under/on the kitchen sink and it worked for maybe a year. We feel like we were scammed!! read more

We bought a Springtime Water Distiller along with a Marvel IV water softener from Big iron in Aug 2006. The Springtime distiller cost us over $2800 with installation & it has been nothing but trouble from the start. The relay switch kept burning out on it & every time but once that we called them they would tell us they had no service agents in this area (Lloydminster, SK) & we would have to bring it in to Edmonton to be fixed. We live 3 hours one way from Edmonton so my hubby fixed it himself finally with some advice from an electrician. The one time they did come out was when we were having trouble with our water being smelly & they charged us $185 for a service call, no parts or anything done to the system, just blaming the problem on our hot water heater. Last week the relay on the distiller burned out for the final time & burned up all the electrical wiring on it.. We called again & were told once more they have no agents in the area & would have to bring it in to Edmonton. When my husband asked the person on the phone what we were supposed to do for drinking water in the meantime they just shrugged him off. My brother-in-law who lives next door to us also had a softener system bought from Big Iron & last year when he called them for service, was told it would be up to a month before they could get someone out to service it. So he threw the thing out & bought another system from another dealer because he could not wait that long. When we bought these systems there was never any mention that there would be a problem with servicing them. Their much touted service is none existent in rural areas it seems, so if you live outside of the Edmonton service area, DO NOT buy anything from these people. I would never advise anyone to purchase a Springtime Distiller either, it has been nothing but trouble to us & we are getting rid of it & changing to a filtration system. It was $2800 NOT well spent. We had a water system installed by Big Iron to replace our 10 yr old Culligan system. It failed several times in the first year alone . This company has little or no customer service. Last year it failed leaving all my dishes dirty ,chalky and my toilets orange with rust. The water is still foul smelling. They refuse to come out and service it requesting that we drive the 45 min to town and haul it all in . Since we are not sure which piece of their equipment has again failed we would have to remove it all and then try to reinstall it ourselves. Waiting more than 2 weeks each time you try to place a service call is unnacceptable . read more

STAY CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY. Bar none the worst service available. We installed a $7600 water system in our home as per Big iron recommendation. worked great for a month then we lost water pressure to the point where we could flush the toilet but not have enough water to wash our hands. After months of phoning for service and me finally Yelling I Hate Danny Hooper over the phone they came and changed the system and made our water orange so we couold not bath our BABY. Months of more phoning we gave up and paid Culligan $6700.00 to replace their entire system. The culligan salesman told us that Big Iron's service is one of culligan's best salesman. Big Iron Drilled a well for us in 2007 After completing the well we had extremely sandy water They took 4 months to come fix it under "warranty" After taking apart the well they decided the well was unfixable They were willing to drill us a new well but we would pay the extra cost of the new trenching (50feet) when we already paid to trench in first well OR could pay the cost of the dry well (our first well that was not dry at all) Not only were we out of water compeltely for over 21 days, they never returned calls once they got our money (they ask you to pay up front to get a discout and now we know why), they didn't show up for 5 days at a time while we were without water. After getting opinions from two other companies big iron stated they were both wrong and were not at fault. We had water in our first well and just couldn't use it because they did not case the well properly or broke the sand screens while installing it. Even though this was there fault they are not taking responsibilty and we are having the fight of our lives just trying to get water! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! Lots of advertising does not mean they are a reliable company. They have no service after you cheque goes through and their so called warranty is not worth a penny!!! read more

In November of 2008, I contacted Ray Fielding with Big Iron Drilling regarding an Arsenic problem in our drinking water. Within 2 days, Ray Fielding, who I assumed to be the owner of Big Iron Drilling sold me on a $11,000.00 system he gauranteed would take the Arsenic out of our water. Since I made the finacial commitment, I have not been able to contact Ray Fielding and keep getting shuffled like a deck of cards. Big Iron came out and installed the system on December 22nd/08 and walked away. They were supposed to send me a tool to service the distiller, that I have yet to receive. On Jan 30th/09, to ensure our health, I had the water re-tested that Big Iron's System is producing. Originally, our Arsenic level was 23.3ppb. Ray Fielding assured me we would have pure drinking water out of the distiller and chlorination system. The system failed. The chlorination system which feeds the distiller was at 6.1ppb and the distiller was at 4.3ppb. Our neighbor, who has a raw water Arsenic level of 24.9ppb was getting his drinking water out of a $1500.00 Reverse Osmosis system filtered to 0.5ppb. Ray Feilding told me Reverse Osmosis would not work, yet my neighbor's is working better than Big Irons Chlorination System and Distiller combined. Big Iron was informed of the problem. They changed the distiller and looked over the Chlorination System. We tested the water again April 30th/09 and we still have 5.5ppb Arsenic in out water. 2 weeks ago we were supposed to get a call from Big Iron's chemist. We still are waiting for the call. To sum this up, Big Iron Drilling or should I say Ray Fielding is a hell of a salesman but once they have your money, good luck, you're on your own. I would strongly advise anyone with water problems to seek a smaller independent company to help you out. There simply is no service at Big Iron Drilling.
