She has lived there for years and had never done this tour, which made it feel like a bit of a discovery for both of us. We ended up at the Lotz House Museum, and it turned out to be one of those unexpectedly memorable experiences. On this particular day, we lucked out with Chuck as our guide. He is a former high school history professor, and you can tell immediately. He does not just recite facts, he brings everything to life with stories, details, and just the right amount of drama. The house itself is not large, but that almost works in its favor. Between the stories of the Lotz family and the vivid accounts of the Battle of Franklin happening right outside, you can practically see it all unfolding as you move from room to room. It is the kind of experience that sticks with you long after you leave, and at around seventeen dollars, it feels like an absolute steal. And do not skip the gift shop. Treat yourself to a peach Nehi soda on your way out. It is unexpectedly fantastic, and I am still thinking about how to get my hands on more.

It's about a 10-15 min boat ride, which is impressive considering it's located inside a building. Our wonderful tour guide talked about the hotel, its history and of course the river we were on. It's cool to think the waters originated from many different rivers throughout the USA and the world. You can actually find out all the rivers as there are plaques along the river telling you of all of them. There is also real fish in the river. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour! We walked enough to get a bit of exercise but not to be tired, and we saw some great sites along the tour as it was 1 hour and 50 minutes for us and only one big hill. As a history teacher, I definitely picked up some interesting stories to bring back to class next year, and I learned some cool stats on Nashville and a bit of the behind the scenes on some of the country music stars of the area. It was really worth it. My husband does not love stuff like this, he'd rather grab a bite and do our own adventuring, but he was really pleased we did this as well. Now,  wherever I'm…read moretraveling to I always check to see if they have a tour.  Luckily, I was able to join an available tour for the downtown area on a Sunday morning. The day was cold and dreary, but I still had an amazing time. The tour guide, Paul, was excellent. He kept the tour entertaining and educational. Paul seemed very passionate about the history and culture of Nashville. The tour lasted a little over an hour, and at the end, he gave us suggestions and directions based on our interests. I loved his honesty on places he thought we would or wouldn't enjoy based on our interests.  These tours are a great way to meet other travelers while enjoying the major attractions.  Of course, the tours aren't completely free because guides do accept gratuity, which they truly deserve.

That sweet couple saw an abandoned place (a land mark community hone) and knew they could fix it to nearly the original splendor. It is soooo worth spending the day there, and take advantage of the sweet little cafe. We just loved our lunch. The home was built with all the modern conveniences when indoor plumbing or electric were unheard of! It saw many different owners, including a doctor who turned the home into a hospital! It was even where the first hip surgery was ever done in the county. A must see!!!
