Likewise, for the main, the fish of the day (e.g., a pan-fried cod fillet on my visit) was probably just as good as anything on the menu. The bread plate was like a starter since it included a buttery crème fraîche dip. Also, the suggested pairings enhanced each course so I highly suggest going that route if drinking wine. Note there is also a breakfast menu, a power lunch menu (which ends at 2PM), and a dinner menu, I believe. This is a great layover stop for higher end Mediterranean fare and Michelin-quality modern European fine dining. Prices are high however. If possible, get the 3-course business lunch for best value. FWIW, this fine dining spot was opened by two brothers who worked at multiple Michelin-starred restaurants, therefore, the quality shined through.

(Overall: B) - Overall, while the food was a bit out of range of pleasantness, I found their…read moreservice to be outstanding -- while I used the bathroom, the staff actually kept my plate of food warm for me, which is above and beyond and should be commended. Also interestingly to note, the decor is a bit profane in the dining room, so that is worth looking at. (Bluefin Tartare: B) - Their bluefin tartare is paired with avocado and ponzu, some classic flavors that work well. The presentation is also elegant. Unfortunately, the rice is a bit hard, which made this dish unpleasant but is otherwise tasty. (Pan Seared Duck: D) - While the duck was cooked nicely with a juicy pink center, I found the accompaniments to be unideal. The saurkraut is incredibly sour and overwhelms the dish, especially given the ratio of cabbage to duck. Furthermore, the dumplings simply tasted like a ball of flour, which was is unfavorable to consume. -- Food: -1 Presentation: +1 Price: E Atmosphere: E Service: +2 Menu: E Overall: +2 B Insta/Beli: @amei_eats

This is a gorgeous historical building. We ordered coffee right away, and were hoping to order some cake when the waitress came back. After about 15 minutes when she came out to take another order, I asked about our coffee, and she said it was on the way.. When the coffee finally came it was great, Lavazza, but we decided not to order cake because we didn't want to sit there another hour. I actually asked to pay which also took another 10 minutes. So I can't really talk about the food or the cake, but the coffee was excellent. If you have time and are looking for a fun place to people watch this is it. Of course, it is right on the Hauptwache, so you're in the center of everything. Please also enjoy my video of the church bells, which went on for about five minutes. And last, but not least I just want to mention one more thing. In Germany, a tip is not expected, but you give it when the service is good. Usually people round up to the nearest Euro, or maybe to the next. My mom ended up paying, and rounded up an extra, I hopped in and said to add an extra Euro, because I thought maybe the waitress was having a bad day, the service was certainly not great. . But the waitress got snippy and said she didn't have change for that, threw the ten Euro change bill on the table, and walked away. Maybe they prefer you pay with card?

Now I did my research before flying over here from Atlanta and as I understand it the pork knuckle is supposed to be fall off the bone tender and this was anything but. So avoid it here, I can't recommend it. The beer though was very good...I ordered a Hefe...one of my favorite types of beers in the states other than IPAs. The beer carried this place (5 stars) but the Pork Knuckle is dead weight (0 stars), hence the three stars overall. This place is conveniently located at the Hauptwache station which is very central, so it has that going for it. Final thoughts... Beer - Excellent Pork Knuckle - tough, tasteless...avoid Service - slow

We made reservations but there were no seats downstairs which is definitely the nicer area with dim lighting and more romantic.. so we had to sit upstairs which was really loud with a huge tv screen playing soccer. There were also 5 kids running around. It was fine since we were having a casual night out but if you're on a date, make sure you get a seat downstairs.
