My wife and I have known Shane for years, but I carefully avoided training with him, because I had never seen myself as a "bodybuilder type" and, basically, didn't like the idea of "exercise" much at all. :)
When we decided to get married, we joined a "team" of 4: us plus 2 neighbors. Each MWF morning, we work out with Shane for one hour. We've been going now for 2.5 years, and the difference it has made for us, cannot be overstated: it's been transformative. I feel so much better, more confident. Instead of seeing life as one long decline, I now see my body as something that, with work and care, can be maintained and improved.
Shane's approach is wonderful: he's gentle and things progress slowly, but over time, you make real gains. Starting from "never squatted before," I can now back squat 285 lbs, which makes me stronger than the average man, and that's something I never expected to say about myself.
Shane gently cajoles you into making progress ... but his approach is more scientific than macho ... and I think that's something I needed to understand about weightlifting: when done right, it's not so difficult, in the moment. It's strategic effort applied consistently over time that makes the difference.
Continuing to do it, and figuring out what, and how much, to do ... that's what will make you succeed, and that's what Shane helps you with. Also, he helps you to learn how to weightlift safely with proper form, and not hurt yourself.
These things: correct philosophy, consistent effort, and safety, are what Shane helps with and, success in fitness, is worth far more than his fee.
Additionally he's just fun to hang out with, so we look forward to catching up regularly and, having a cool "gym community" of, positive, healthy, "can do" people around. read more
