Arrived to find a note on the door that they were out until after dinner, my room is open and I…read morecould see them later. Is this good or bad I thought? Well the place is old...I remember it from when I was a kid and even spent a few nights there back in the 80's (not so nice then). Walked into a very clean kitchenette and living room, fully furnished with a couch(side by side recliners, recliner, princess Anne chair, and dinette set. Small stove, refrigerator, 2 bedrooms with l sized beds (yes they were tiny). Kitchen was stocked with any implement I would need to make a dinner. Direct TV. It is right on the bay (Big Bay de Noc) and was filled with people there to fish (not sure which kind of fish they were catching). VERY VERY clean. A Mr Coffee and a perculator are there, even filters for the drip maker. There was cubes in the trays. dishes and silverware, cups plates, bowls etc. Stop in cities either east or west of motel for groceries. Water was The owner is very nice and the best [part is any taxes or extra charges are figured into the fee so it was $72.00 a night. The only downfall I found were the tiny overly bouncy beds, but I will put up them for what I got. WIFI far from good, more like dial-up, but that is what you get in the sticks. There is a fire pit. There is a bit of beachfront but lots of weeds Close to a nice beach and many attractions. I will stay here again! If looking for stuff to do while here, Fayette state park is incredible and is Big Springs state park. A bit further away is the cities of Escanaba, Manistique, Munising, Gladstone, and Marquette. You can stay as busy as you want.

What a wonderful three-day stay! I am so glad my husband and I chose the Star Motel over other…read moreoptions that were available for booking online. I wanted to tell other travelers that had opted for stays on the other side of the road (not on the lake) what they were missing. The host, Leo, was kind, accommodating, and easy going in all interactions from reservation to checkout. Every day we were offered for the room to be made up entirely, to receive fresh towels, or/and or to have the trash removed. Leo struck the exactly right balance in degree of service, neither pushy nor neglectful. As many others have said, the rooms are spotless. They are simply furnished but have all amenities and clearly have been kept up with meticulous care ( for example, both bathroom and bedroom as well as windows and doors had a fresh coat of paint). Every single piece in the inventory (fridge, lights, AC, etc.) worked perfectly. The spaciousness of the room, the full-size back window in addition to the even larger front window, all easy to open and with a mosquito screen, and the view out on the beautiful, natural backyard adjacent to Lake Michigan were unexpected bonuses. Traffic on the highway (#2), from which the motel is set back quite a bit, dies down in the evening and the rooms seem to be sound proof as nights were quiet and calm. There are so many things to do and see in the area, three nights were not enough. We will definitely be back, perhaps in a different season.

The bed was very comfortable (I read reviews that the beds were hard but we didn't experience that). The bathroom was clean and everything worked well. There's a frig and tv with cable but no microwave. The heat worked well (we came at the beginning of March) and there is an air conditioning unit that can be plugged in. It is on a busy road but at night there's hardly a peep coming from it. By morning though traffic was starting, but we didn't stay in the room all day For a comfortable, non frills stay this is the place! Oh and the owner is very friendly

That's the only semi-negative thing I will say about this place, The hotel is nice, the workers were nicer, the rooms were clean and the halls were quiet. The continental breakfast was pretty solid too. Bananas (finally! after 9 days in Michigan hotels, I was beginning to think there was a law against them) mini omelets, bagels, muffins, cinnamon rolls, turkey sausage and a pancake machine. The real star of this hotel is the back patio view. Sitting on their deck enjoying the views of Lake Superior while having a cold beverage is pretty amazing. The rooms with lake views have their own balconies or you can be a cheap ass like me and share the patio with the others.

The hot water was good. Water pressure was fine. The room's heat was welcome on the cold evening. Past the lobby the Inn has a nice seating area for breakfast. We found it to be a good spot to sit and eat food from town. The morning breakfast was busy both mornings. The staff did a good job keeping the coffee full and the food stocked. It was a nice money saver to not need to go out for breakfast in the morning. We opted for the cheaper room facing the parking lot. If I stayed here again, I would spring for a bay-side (Lakeview) room. We had a beautiful and bright sunrise over the bay. The staff was friendly.
