3.5 but rounding up. Woah... place was PAAAACKED on a Saturday morning. I stopped in not realizing there is no indoor seating. This made it difficult for my group to enjoy our bagels but we did the best we could. They do have a high table along the window so we used that to put our stuff down and stood while eating. We did get really lucky with only 3 people ahead of us to order. After that it was game over, the line was out the door and there was absolutely no room. It's a place where you grab and go. Noted. Service did take some time since it was extremely busy. Staff members were organized-ish, they took orders on a shared notebook and then went to the next customer. When my order was being prepared I had to remind them again of what I wanted. I tried a jalapeño bagel toasted with vegetable cream cheese. Cream cheese was delicious - salty, flavorful and thick. The bagel was good flavor wise, I would probably order it again but I am interested in trying others. I wish it was more on the thicker side but overall very tasty. Tip - there is a 3% charge if you're using a credit card. To avoid this I recommend paying with cash.

Asiago bagel + jalapeño cheddar cream cheese + bacon + egg + cheese

We were craving bagels and decided to check out Big Apple Bagels near us. When you walk in, you can smell the fresh, delicious bagels! There is no seating inside so this is a to-go place. The service was quick and the food was prepped fresh right in front of you! The menu has a bunch of breakfast bagel sandwiches and lunch sandwiches. They also offer A TON of cream cheese options which I love! We got 2 breakfast bagel sandwiches - one was an Asiago bagel with jalapeño cheddar cream cheese with bacon, egg, and cheese. The other was an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese with bacon, egg, and cheese. Both bagels were absolutely amazing! The actual bagels were toasted to perfection, they tasted so fresh, and the inside was soft while the outside was crispy. The eggs inside were fluffy and yummy and made for the perfect breakfast sandwich with the crispy bacon. The cream cheeses were SO GOOD! I loved the jalapeño cheddar flavor - there was a slight hint of spice while also being perfectly creamy and flavorful. The scallion cream cheese was iconic with its green onions mixed with plain cream cheese. We were so impressed with this quick bagel shop and can't wait to go back and try more of their bagel and cream cheese combinations!

You can also grab house-made soups, their popular egg salad, bagel chips, and other deli favorites to-go. The best Matza-ball soup I have ever had! I haven't been to the location but have had these bagels consistently for over 10 years. The texture and flavor of the bagel is everything a NY bagel is and should be. I've been going to New York Bagel & Bialy for over 50 years, and places like this operate on a different clock, a different standard, and frankly, a different philosophy of what a bagel is supposed to be. Timing matters. If you show up after about 8:00 AM, your odds of getting bagels at their absolute peak--still warm, properly textured, with that slight resistance on the outside and softness inside--go up significantly. Earlier can be hit or miss depending on the batch cycle, but once they're in stride, this place delivers. The essentials are all here and worth your time: poppy seed, sesame, everything, and especially the bialys. The bialys alone are reason enough to make the trip--properly done, with the right chew and depth of flavor that you simply won't find in mass-produced versions. Don't overcomplicate it. Grab a dozen. On your way home, stop and pick up a couple packages of Philadelphia Cream Cheese and some smoked salmon a jar of capers, a Bermuda onion--whether here or even from Walmart--and you've got a meal that outperforms most brunch menus at a fraction of the cost. This isn't trendy. It's not trying to be. It's something better: consistent, old-world, and still doing it the right way. If you're going to call something a bagel, the standard is not branding--it's process. That's why New York Bagel & Bialy on Touhy stands apart. They actually do it right: kettle-boiled first, then baked in rotating ovens. That single decision--boiling--changes the entire structure. It gelatinizes the outer starch layer, locks in density, and produces that thin, glossy crust with real chew. Without it, you don't have a bagel--you have bread with a hole. The rotating ovens matter too. They deliver even heat, which means you get the correct balance: a slight exterior crisp with a dense, elastic interior. No puffiness. No sponge. No collapse under toppings. That's the difference here. Most chains optimize for speed and shelf life, so they steam or shortcut the process. Many local shops land in the middle. This place doesn't compromise. If you care about what a bagel is supposed to be--not just what it's called--this is the benchmark in Chicago.

When we started to get hungry just being spectators I sent my dad out to find some food. I did a quick search on Yelp and pointed him the direction of County Farm Bagels. Similar to the tennis courts at College of Dupage he said the bagel place wasn't easy to find, but he made his way there. From there he ordered 2 sandwiches and then realized he forgot his wallet at home. Oops. And he's about 10 years behind when it comes to having apple pay on your phone. The woman at the bagel shop was nice enough to let him call me and pay over the phone. 20 minutes later he made his way back to Dupage and I enjoyed a poppy bagel filled with egg and cheese. It was a bit too cheesy for my liking, but still tasted pretty good and I was famished so anything would do. I also don't find Chicagoland to have the best bagels, but this one was pretty soft! This is quite far from me in the North Shore, but if i find myself in the area again (likely for another tennis tournament) I'd stop here for a quick bite to eat.
