Genuinely strange vibe here. Yesterday I was in looking for a sleeping bag and a few other items. One of the employees, who I imagine was a shift lead, had a child running around the store. Clearly just not a great environment for him and who knows how long he had been there that day, he was very loud and chaotic and just being a kid. I kept hearing the staff member who was the kids caretaker harshly reprimanding him, borderline yelling. I get it's stressful to have to bring a child to work with you but it's not his fault. There were like no customers in the store and it was pretty quiet in there so hearing him being a crazy kid & then this woman loudly reprimanding him was very hard to ignore. I looked at bags for a really long time, and no one offered to help. Many of the hanging bags were missing identifying tags, so I was going back and forth trying to match the samples to the shelved bags for sale. Eventually I pick one, buy it and leave. I go home, open it up and it's just not what I had expected. It was huge, and very heavy. Today I brought it back for a return and had no problem. I went back to the sleeping bags to reassess what was available and that same woman who was yelling at the kid the day before, (who was not the employee to process my return) likely didn't realize I was the person who brought in the return and with a very nasty and annoyed tone she said something about how the sleeping bag policy she be like the air mattress policy - which is that they won't let you return it if you opened it. Her energy was terrible two days in a row, just totally drab and on edge. I maybe would have stuck around and kept looking at other sleeping bag options, probably would have bought a new one if someone stopped leaning on a counter talking shit about other employees to ask if I needed assistance, but instead I left. I didn't want to hear her drone on about how annoying everything is, customers/policies/coworkers alike (major projection) The pink haired woman needs training on customer service Big 5 has an opportunity to get some new regulars with the closing of next adventure - which had inherited many regulars from the outdoor store when that closed a few years back. It would be wise to have employees who are passionate about outdoor gear and the experiences customers have with the gear and in their stores, because that's what keeps people shopping. Reliable return policies are how you get customers to try things out and find what works for them. You retain those customers by showing some effort, curiosity and really helping them. 4/30/22 @ 10:32am Store 00233 Just came back from Big Dirty 5 No customer service sporting goods!! Wow where to start. Well store opened at 9am my husband and I were literally second customers of the day!! First customer was greeted by Jacob "store manager". We walked in and no greeting seemed like he forgot how to speak or was shocked by our high vibration. First thing I noticed is HOW DIRTY THIS PLACE IS!!!!!! Stuff unorganized and on the floor boxes are opened. Trash everywhere I mean everywhere like they had no vacuum cleaner so they said F it. I got some items asked if I can try them on the girl that was working with the manager was also rude didn't ask if we need help I had to go up to both of them while they were chatting away. I asked to try on the items I found. As she opens the door to the fitting room I was literally like WTF!! Fitting room looked like musicians crashed a hotel see posted photos. Mirror was grimey as heck something broken on the ground a piece of wood idk. Litter on the floor. That whole store was just ewwwwww... as a former manager of retail stores I would never have a store like that or let my employees walk around not doing anything they had so much things they could've been doing. There store needs to get checked up on by DM or a RM. They also should be trained on customer service, attentiveness, knowing products. Will not be coming back to THIS location again!!!! read more

Worst service ever. It was two employees in the store and one other customer. My wife and I were wanting to buy new shoes. We stood there for 10 minutes with shoes in our hands wanting to be fitted. The guy there took a phone call, that's fine. But before and after that he completly ignored us. Never felt that disrespected or ignored at any other store ever!! read more

Asking my co-workers where I could find a "cheap" inner-tube for river floating, they suggested Fred Meyers. Unfortunately, Freddie's was out. The following day, another co-worker suggested Bug 5. She called it a "Hidden Gem", probably in part because it's set back in the corner of the strip mall that it's in. I get what she meant, I'd eaten next door many times and never knew Big 5 was here. As luck would have it, they were the only place I could find that still had inner-tubes. Instead though, I bought a little blow up raft, so my butt would stay dry. Not that I don't intend to get wet when I float, but I don't want my derriere set in cold water the entire 3 hours. Not only did they have a large selection, but they were on a good sale (I think I paid $19.99). After our float this past weekend (and having to paddle long distances, due to stagnant water) I decided I needed oars. Wouldn't you know Big 5 has them a $1 cheaper than Freddie's. Nothing against Fred Meyers, but $1 here and $1 adds up. Looks like from now on, I will head straight to Big 5 and they will get my business where all water sports are concerned (I'm not into any other forms of sport). If you call around, I think you will find they have the best prices and the most in stock. read more

Don't even bother going here if you're a person of color. They ignore you as soon as you enter the store but as soon as a white privileged person enters, everyone's attention is on them, asking them how they are, what they're looking for, if they need something in particular, etc. I was only trying to get a pair of shoes but no one bothered to ask if we needed any help. Every single employee was talking to each other as a group and literally ignored my mom and I even if we made eye contact with them. An employee came to pick up a box of shoes and saw that we needed help but didn't even bother to ask what size we needed in the shoes we had picked out. Customer service is absolutely terrible. The employees are terrible too. If I could give less than a star, I definitely would. And then they have the nerve to say "have a good day" as we walked out. read more

You would be rewarded if you are patient at this store. Staff is nice and friendly. Stock is not guaranteed and you may have to keep looking to find an exact match. Also they will honor coupons if you have. Over all, I like this store. Good job guys! read more

This store does not honor its own advertised pricing. Tried to charge nearly double the posted price for the camping equipment I was searching for. At the same time I was there they were also refusing to give a refund to a woman whose raft sank on its first use, claiming it can't be returned because it had been used. How else can you tell if a raft floats without trying it out in water. John was the manager on duty. read more

A little spendy on some items, but totally reasonable on others. I came here because my stepdad, who is a runner, advised this a great place to get a good price on athletic shoes. The man helping me was somewhat knowledgeable, and I was glad that he didn't just recommend "Nike" right off the bat. I wish he would have asked some more probing questions, but he did give me the assistance I needed to ultimately make a selection. I ended up going with a slightly more expensive pair than I had initially set out for, but it wasn't outrageous, it all came down to my feet being the most comfortable -the store can't control that! They had a pretty good promotion running on some running shoes for 39.99 - solid brands/designs, in fact, one of the pairs i narrowed it down to was on this sale. They were running promos on various items throughout the store, though none I absolutely needed, just happened to notice while browsing. Of note, I was considering purchasing a couple dumbbells, and maybe it was just me but they had more than one brand with no pricing listed on them! Bar codes could be found, but no prices... I didn't want to go through the trouble of bothering someone for something I wasn't dead-set on getting (the way i was the shoes), so I kept making my way through the store. Picked up a couple additional items and checked out. The cashier was super friendly at least. This has all your sporting goods needs, I'd imagine - unless you're into something super bizarre, then maybe not. Good service, decent prices (if you're at least somewhat knowledgeable in price comparison) and a good selection - I'll be back when I have additional sporting goods needs. read more

I have to be honest, I don't come here a lot. BUT, those occasions that I find myself needing some outdoorsy thing, I do think of Big 5. Just the other day I had been dreading the idea of going all the way into the CITY (da, da, daaaaah!) and across the bridge to an outdoor retailer that's much trendier, I thought, shoot, let's try Big 5. I was looking for waterproof gloves - the kind fishermen use, and then once I got there and the nice young lady helped me out til I located exactly what I was looking for and it was waaay cheaper than I imagined (12.99) I realized they might have some other stuff I need. I ended leaving with a fuzzy warm insulated pair of leggings (sweet for this weather!) and a nice mini-led flashlight and I saw some other fun stuff that I might like to buy for Christmas. The time before this I came in thinking they would never have what I was looking for then either - a weighted exercise hula hoop,. Guess what? They had it. And a great price, too. I will keep on keeping them in mind when it comes to sporting good needs - they don't have everything, but it seems like they always have what I want. read more

I have been going to this store for years. Mainly for Tennis Shoes, once I find a pair that fit good I normally order 3 or 4 pairs. Of course they are on sale and if they don't have enough in my size they give me a "Rain check" and email me when they get them. I think that is a cool service. My wife likes "New Balance" but for me I have had "Wilson" for some time. Prices range from $19 to $50. But if they are not on sale it get as high as $100. The store is clean, Parking "Can Be" a little hard. They are in strip type of mall with shared parking. read more

If I could give this store a negative 5 stars, I would. My husband and I came to this store to purchase a Ruger 10/22 rifle for my son that's turning 23 this month. The Oregon statue says that this is totally legal. This store manager said he wouldn't sell us a gun because of this. He was incredibly rude about this. We then decided to go to the Beaverton store and apparently the Tigard manager had called to the Beaverton store to notify them that if we showed up, not to sell us the gun. This was incredibly unprofessional. We of course did not purchase a gun from them. We gave our business to a professional gun store in Beaverton that was more than happy to educate us on the rules and regulations. We also saved $20 off the price at the other store. We will never buy anything ever again from this store. read more

I cannot believe this store is still around and hasn't gone under with all the other stores it's competing with. It's nice to know that litle stores like this are still around. They have a pretty good selection of athletic shoes and a good ammount of sporting items. Their prices are pretty good as well so i will be shopping there if i have a small budget. read more

Today, this store went above and beyond to make sure I left a happy customer. Three different employees were very attentive and helpful, and the manager on duty was great. I noticed a pricing discrepancy- I was thatttt guy, the guy I have always despised as I've worked retail. I gave them a little attitude when they informed me the price was incorrectly marked, but the manager allowed me to purchase my item slightly cheaper than normal just to ensure I didn't leave unsatisfied. I know this isn't easy, but he made the right call. I came for a few things, left with a bunch and had a great experience. Thanks guys! read more

Came in to purchase a basketball with my husband and the place was very mess with items piled up with no real organization. Once we found what we needs we had to wait 10 mintues to check-out behind a man that was returning 5 life jackets with no receipt. We waited patiently but noticed that there were employees walking around with nothing to do. I thought about asking if the bored employee would check us out on the open register but he was avoiding contact with us. However, when another customer walked in looking for a dry-fit towel he immediately helped her find them and checked her out in less then 2 minutes. The service is not equal for all customers and I would recommend going somewhere else. read more

I bought a raft here and it leaked on first use. I didn't save the box or receipt, not anticipating needing to return it. The manager told me that there was nothing he could do. If I had bought it at any other store they would easily replace it to maintain the relationship. Bad customer service- I won't come back here. read more

Good variety of reasonably priced shoes, general sports and outdoor gear. Good sales. Better selection at this Big 5, and better layout/ displays. Late hours, good management (Will, Joe). Good return policy, and employees are helpful, have good attitudes. read more
