This location is closing down therefore be careful it's a 50-50 as far as having to deal with the personnel in charge, it could be really tricky. Unfortunately, my experience was terrible. I walked in and right away. I was asking questions and it became a confrontation. The workers name is Chester, which carried a lot of negative energy when I simply asked for a simple question so I immediately exited letting him know that I would give him a review addressing his behavior. no as far as BIG five there is a lot of great workers. Unfortunately, this person needs to be properly trained, and customer care.. read more

We came here this evening to return a tent we had purchased last week. The staff here was super accommodating. We ended up buying a pair of skates, pads, and a helmet for my daughter. Mason was so quick to assist us in finding the right size. His customer service was excellent. Erika at the register was also very friendly. I unfortunately didn't catch the name of the manager who helped with the return, but he was great. We will definitely be coming back here for more sporting goods. read more

I was in the store today and over heard an employee screaming at a customer. I walked around to see what was going on and they had a child cleaning their window claiming he had dirtied it ! I was appalled. And then to see this employee cussing and yelling at this woman was beyond me. It was so unprofessional. This poor woman who come to find out was with her two grandchildren who looked to be about 9 and 5 those poor kids looked terrified. Not only was the manger just standing there doing nothing while his employee was screaming at this woman and her grandchild he was more concerned about someone recording the whole thing. It was crazy. The employee screamed at her "f*** you and your child" in front of the whole store. You guys need to fire that woman and manager. I can't believe you allow your employees to treat your customers that way. So sad to see she had to pull a race card as well saying you're type and calling her a Karen. I would be just an upset if someone told my son to clean a window. Shame on you Josie for doing nothing and shame on your employee Ms Williams. read more

Smaller than other stores from this chain. I was still able to find a pair of shoes I wanted, even with the limited selection.

Well let me just advice you. If you buy something and need to return it, you better have your receipt. Only for BIG 5. Not only they are not able to track your purchase (99%) of stores in USA do it EASILY, with your debit card, but here the MANAGER and only THE MANAGER can solve it by calling customer service, and maybe they will find your transaction and give you your money back. I mean, what kind of technology do they use?? BIG 5 is time for an upgrade. It took about 45 minutes to return a canopy that I bought 3 days before and really didn't need at the end. I see another complain on 5/27/24 so I'm not the only one. You guys need to get your caca together and update your system and managers with the latest technology. This is unacceptable! read more

while shopping today, i overheard an employee shouting at a family with little kids, cursing at them, SCREAMING from the back of the store to the front F*** you and your kids, you need to teach them a lesson. she cornered the little boy gave him cleaner and a rag and forced him to clean the window! instead of finding his parents she took it upon her self to scare this little boy then to go and attack the family when his mom went to ask what was going on and why she didn't come talk to her. it's so sad that not even the manager apologized after all of that happened or try to take any accountability. i hope these kids are okay after that. the manager and employee need to see serious consequences and should be fired. this is a terrible look for Big 5. read more

I am in disbelief at the way my family was treated in this establishment today. My 10 year-old son was accused of spitting on a window and instead of the employees notifying his father or grandmother who were present they decided to take matters into their own hands and intimidate my son and force him to clean their windows. When my mother-in-law realized what was going on, the staff attacked her and screamed at her and my family for five minutes. My mother-in-law was called names, spoken down to, curst at and humiliated. The employee, "Denise or Tenise Williams" screamed "f*** you and your kid" called my child and mother in law nasty and other insulting words. The manager JOSIE stood by and did nothing, other than demand that my husband stops recording. My children were terrified. I am happy to share the full 3 minute long video and share details with any corporate official that would like me to send it their way. I am demanding immediate and serious action! This is not OK, and there need to be consequences for these employees actions. After all, her point was to "teach a lesson" I believe she is the one that needs to learn their lesson today! read more

I frequent this Big 5 quite a bit, (mostly because it's close to home, and next to my primary "beer spot"). And, while it is a bit on the "smallish" side when it comes to overall store size, it still seems to provide a decent selection of the type of crap that I'm typically in the market for. Athletic / running shoes - check! Golf gear & equipment - check! Camping equipment / supplies - check! Darts and accessories - check! Ammo, (usually... and I must stress, usually...) - check! Fishing licenses - check!!! Works for me... Customer service may be a tad lacking at times and most employees in general seem a bit aloof, but other than that, it's a pretty decent store. Hot Tip... ALWAYS check the mailers and / or online ads as they can save you quite a few bucks at times!!! read more

Been coming to this Big 5 for years. Walked in today to buy a fishing license. Salesperson Geovanie looks at me and says, what's up. I looked back and said, what's up! Proceeded to checkout and he asked me, "what do you want?". I said I need a fishing license. He said, "you'll have to wait for the next available cashier". I'm thinking to myself, "no kidding." The cashier I'm waiting on is dealing with a lady who is paying with rolls of quarters. She looks at Geovanie and asked him, "do we accept this kind of payment?" He tells her yes they do. She then proceeds to put the rolls away and he tells her she must count them all. At this point she needs help and tells him to attend to me. He proceeds to ask me what do I need. My reply A FISHING LICENSE!! Another customer walks in and politely asks for ear plugs. He points towards the fishing gear and disregards the guy. He asks if I have ever had a fishing license. Yes. How long ago? A longtime ago. ID please. I give him my ID. Is address the same? Not sure, what's the address on there? IS ADDRESS THE SAME? If it starts with 686 then yes it's the same. Tosses my ID towards me. Doesn't even have the decency to hand it to me as I did to him. There's more to his behavior than this. From the start he had a terrible attitude. I wanted to take flight on this prick but I've turned a new leaf. So I've decided to leave an appropriate review on this clown. Geovanie you need to be trained in customer service bro! read more

i don't recommend this store they refused to exchange my shoes that i had purchased not even 24 hours ago the manager was rude and told me to take my business elsewhere also they have homeless people sleeping outside the store read more

Worst customer service. Manager Jeffrey Glasser needs customer service training. Poor attitude, clearly over his head. He even acted like he was going to start a physical altercation with more than one customer. Is that how you provide customer service? Big 5 needs to train their people better than this! Lost his company a $500 sale from me and another from the family in line behind me. We all walked out without making a purchase because of his attitude! Wont ever go back there again. Cant wait for cooperate to open so they can get the full story. read more

Best shopping experience of my day I picked up a wagon over here and right when I walked in the door went on sale how fun is that

Young lady by the name of Bernice excellent customer service. Beautiful young spirit will go far with her customer service.

I went to this location to purchase a weight bench, after a customer service rep in the Carson store, found the item in San Pedro. The employees greeted me as soon as I walked in. The item was waiting for me at the front desk. After my purchase, Carl loaded the item into my truck. Great customer service. read more

Big 5 always has the deals specially now that the black Friday deals are spread out. Me and some friends went and bought half the store they were happy to help us even if we were kinda annoying. They took all the heavy stuff and put it in trunk for us. Some of the items we had coupons for that were missing got located or substitute they are great at this big 5. read more

This location can be kinda sketchy. I've been asked for change (many times), and once saw a guy banging on the window after closing, saying he needed a gun for protection. WTF? If you can get past all that, the location has an OK selection of athletic equipment, and yes, guns. I recently came for some ski equipment and they had a 'few' of the brands I expected to find, and the prices were fair. If you are looking for a large selection of something, you will NOT find it here, but what they do have is usually a good value. Keep an eye out for the weekly newspaper inserts, those items are always a good deal. read more

Been there a lot recently picking up things I've forgotten for the old survival kit. Here's a friendly public service announcement: Don't forget to be emergency prepared; especially if you are the primary caregiver for anyone else. Stock up on non-perishables, first aid supplies and water for at least three days. Parents & pet owners, don't forget a special toy for your little one and also food for man's best friend. Don't forget to pack prescriptions. Just remember to cycle them out as you get refills. Also, a very good idea to make a little emergency kit for your vehicles. Ladies, don't forget to pack a pair of old sneakers in the car kit. read more

Katrina, the first reviewer of this Big 5, is right; there are hot men. One of the guy who was nice enough to go into the back to get some shoes for me and hand it o me with his mysterious... pretty eyes... sober, expressionless face... and beautiful hands... OK back to these shoes; my friend is getting annoyed because I have to try on a dozen more pairs of shoes. This time I didn't annoyed her on purpose because I actually wanted to have a reason to keep that hot guy in my sight. I even thought about talking to him and ask him what is my EXACT shoe size because I was so sure I wasn't EXACTLY 12W. But that was pushing too far, so I settled on 4 pairs of shoes and thanked him. He thanked me back with such sexy professional coldness... Ooh la la. I love the cold, silent types... I was so sad to leave this store. Everyone else were as okay as my cold shoe guy. read more

After my little monster chewed my good running shoes, I was in great need of a nice pair. I usually shop at the location in Glendale or the one in Culver city but since I needed shoes asap, I decided to give this Big 5 a try. I headed to this store and parking was a breeze, unlike the Culver City location. I found a nice pair of New Balance. I liked two other shoes but they didn't have small sizes. I am a little person with small feet, so finding good shoes in my size be can be a challenge. They checked for me if another location had those particular shoes, but no luck. The guy that helped me was very helpful. The cashiers were pleasant and really tried to check if other stores had my size. Great customer service, easy parking, and clean. The only reason why I am not giving it 5 stars is because is smaller than the other locations, and the selection isn't as great as the ones I am used to. I do recommend this store. read more

Parking - parking is ok here part of a bigger complex with other stores so not a problem to find a spot. Well the store itself isn't all that great. Very cluttered for being a Big 5 it isn't all that Big. The store doesn't have many options for beach stuff. I was looking for a nice beach chair and the only had a couple options. I stopped here because I was in the area. I definitely won't be shopping at this store anytime soon. read more

They had a variety of things we needed and even inflated a basketball we bought. They don't have spray sunscreen only liquid.

Best Big 5 I have ever been to. I went in a few days ago to buy running shoes and had no idea what was perfect for me (cause I have such a small foot). I came across employee Daniel C, who was actually the manager trainee at this location. He helped find a really nice shoe at a really affordable price for myself. What I liked most was his smile and his patience despite the many questions I had asked him about the shoe. Excellent customer service, big things are going to happen for you and I hope your managers see this. I will definitely be coming back and hopefully Daniel will be there again to help me. read more

For the most part I go here because its the only place in Pedro (i think) and its down the street from me. The service most times is not the best, but not horrible either. I am just "whatever" about this place. The prices are okay and overall experience is just average. Glad its still in business though because then I would have to travel further away for simple things like softballs, cleats and Kenisio tape! read more

Another visit to Big 5 today...and again they receive 5 stars! I went in to buy some weights, but then I saw that they already have their winter stuff out...with great, discounted prices. As well, they had tons of sports clothing on sale. I just love the great prices at this place. AND, as always, the sales staff is quick and helpful. GREAT customer service! read more

Love this Big 5!!!!! Staff is friendly they do not mind looking in the back for items and are very help full. There is also a fine guy in there Gabriel woooooooo hooooooooo hottie alert if your lucky he will be there when you go! This location is a lot nicer than the Long Beach one. read more

This is a pretty good Big 5, except that it's a bit small and the parking lot that it shares with Rite Aid and a couple of other small businesses is always crowded. Also, this location requires you to show your ID and get fingerprinted for any ammunition purchases which is NOT required by state law, as the Big 5s down the hill in Torrance do not do this. Just another example of Commiefornia inconveniencing law abiding citizens and wiping its ass with the Constitution. Oh well, I buy my ammo for much less online anyways. read more

Who puts the high ratings on this place? The store is too small to be called a sporting goods store. Second, the products are grossly over priced ( See Walmart and Target and DIscount Golf ) for decent pricing. Third, the staff.. this is where it gets good.. STAY AWAAAAY... from this store... The Mexican staff uses this location to dis.. other people.. as in.. trying to overcharge for shoes... purposfully.. and .. cops an attitude at the register... with the evil eye... I decided to take my purchase ( shoes ) back five minutes after the purchase... because of the attitude of one 'Dianna'.. a sales person.. and the mgr. asked for my drivers license to refund my money... I said.. NO.. I have just purchased the shoes five minutes ago.. adn here's the receipt... and he refunded my money anyway.. what a line of gargage... LOW LIFE PLACE.. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE... Went in to get hiking shoes...got a pair for 25 bucks! woohoo. Can't beat that with a baseball bat =)

TRIED to shop here 2 times. I have no idea where the high rating are coming from. 1 time i went to buy shoes, and couldnt get a single employee to check to see if they had my size in the back, tried for a good 20 minutes, but to no avail. The second time was to try and buy a firearm that was on sale, but again couldnt get any help, this location is terrible and ill go to the one on pch from now on. read more
