I have visited this location a couple times since its opening. The store is pretty big. They have a decent selection of sports equipment, fitness items and active clothes. Sometimes Big 5 charges a lot of money for items you can get cheaper elsewhere. This is why I look at the sales, because often you can find some neat items on the cheap. Service here is fair. Sometimes you need to make some effort to get employees to notice you. Other times they are on it and are ready to assist in any way they can. I had a Big 5 near where I used to live in Sac area, so it's nice to have one here too. Mostly I use them to get parts or replace my hear rate monitors when the batteries die. But now those Polar parts are not sold. All I wanted was a polar wrist monitor with the chest strap transmitter, but polar doesn't make those any more. Not Big 5's fault, but at least they tried to look up a solution for me. I guess it's back to Amazon to try to get what I want. Visited this store on a very rainy afternoon. No cars in the lot and no customers in the store besides myself. I counted 4 employees on the floor and one life less checker. I walked in and went straight to the shoe department. 3 young employees were to the right of me in the shoe department. They were so busy discussing weekend plans, they. Ever noticed me. Finally, after removing numerous shoes from the wall to try on, someone showed up. I asked to have my foot measured and the guy hadn't a clue. I did it myself. Luckily I knew the shoe I wanted, now the size. I took the box off the shelf and went to pay. Maybe it was the weather, I don't know but she wasn't interested in working either. She made no attempt to greet me, rang me up and handed me my bag and I left. Would not go back. At least for shoes. I'll just order from Zappos as I usually do! read more

Whoa. After the strap on my shoddy old bike rack snapped while driving on I-5 just outside Cottonwood, I was in a serious pinch. Did a Yelp search and saw that there was a Big 5 in Red Bluff, so I drove the 10 miles with one bike hanging out the hatchback window and the other one stuffed in the front seat with my kiddo (good sport!). All the folks there were super-friendly and helpful, especially Kevin the manager who got me outfitted with a brand new trunk-mounting bike rack and even helped me load everything onto the car before sending us on our merry way. Nice store for RB. They usually have the things I go in for. Other times they don't , workers are nice . Things are a bit pricey but I'm glad they are here in RB to give us another option besides Walmart. read more
