I ask...Well sir...comes the reply..."Premium cachaça (Brazilian sugar cane spirit), fresh lime and sugar, muddled, shaken, and poured elegantly straight from the can"... sounds refreshing.... drink from Brazilian countryside I'm told...that's original!!! Sold!! Now I knew this was a cocktail bar but I was pleasantly surprised by grub on offer. The menu was actually pretty decent. If I were you I'd definitely give the spiced corn fed chicken a whirl indeed, it was delightful!!! Served with crushed potatoes, chorizo and rosemary stuffing, roasted pepper dressing & basil crisps it was well prepared and cooked nicely indeed. At under £13 it was not bad price wise either for a main. The service was top notch, and I warmed to the aesthetics of the place. Well worth a visit I'd say!!!

Was pleasantly surprised because even though the place has had a makeover, the floor in particular, it is still essentially, the Addy! Quite a few of the regulars albeit slightly older,lol, were there and more arrived as the pub got busier and busier over the evening, was great to see them all again. There were a great choice of drinks,real ales, ciders, lagers, bottles etc., the prices, quite reasonable too. Entertainment was on, profuse apologies but I can't remember the name of the band, that's the fault of one of the pints of Stella I imbibed! I did have several dances though, which I thoroughly enjoyed. All in all, I had a great time, ex-hub didn't moan that much, so I assume he must have enjoyed himself. Seemingly propped up on one side by an outcrop of rock and with a doorway populated by glaring smokers, it resembled somewhere that would result in my gruesome death if I supported the wrong team or hated places rhyming with geranium. You can tell I was wrong. It got five stars for one thing. Inside, the Herculaneum Bridge was surprisingly well decorated, with a wide, acorn-coloured bar that had model ships and steamrollers dotted above it. The barman was the epitome of Liverpudlian hospitality- mockingly jokey and the quiz machine paid out like a dodgy cash machine. Then when I thought it couldn't get better, the barman shouted us to show he'd poured us three pints 'on the house'. It shows how plagued by cynicism I am that I was unnerved by getting free drinks off the staff. Things like that don't happen, ever. The only downside with this pub is that it's miles from anywhere and I imagine would be difficult for tourists to find if they were using it as a hotel. However, if that means it remains my hidden secret then I hope it stays lost forever in the centre of nowhere. It's mine, my own, my precious.

It also stopped a wedding party getting in, 2 senior citizens and 2 lads who must have been 40. But they did let in a lady who was so so very drunk she needed help up the steps, was pole dancing on a pillar and generslly falling over. But she did have photo ID so it's clearly fine. Afterasll, Policy is Policy! The decor inside is fine. The outside courtyard area curiously reminds me of a village train station platform.

I decided to travel across with water, well under it on a train, to go and see a friends band at…read moreRevolver. The club has previously been known as Hotel California, and Hex before that. I had only been here once before when it was Hex and that was some years ago. As I was taking photos for the band, me and a friend were on the guest list. The lady at the box office greeted us warmly, confirmed we were OK to go in free, advised the bouncers of this, who also welcomed us and we went inside. The club is quite dark inside, but this is normal for a rock club. The bar was quite small but the staff were very friendly and advised us that a double Jager Bomb was only £2.95, which is excellent value. Each time we went back to the bar the staff remembered what we were drinking and served us promptly. For a while we sat on the sturdy chairs and tables near the bar before moving to a booth near the stage. There were also booths near the bar but these were occupied. The stage in Revolver is of a decent size. It is raised up which gives you an excellent view of the band. The booths at the side are an excellent place to sit and look across at the bands, and in my case an excellent place to take photos. The sound was very good, the sound engineers had the levels spot on throughout the gig. There is a large outdoor area at revolver which is essential a big marquee that is filled with picnic tables and also has a dance floor on the stage at the far end. There is music playing in there and it's an excellent place to get some air and relax. The other side of the club looks a bit like a pub, with comfy seating and pool tables. It's a great place to chill out and chat with friends. The toilets are pretty cramped and quite dark, but they seemed to be clean and well stocked with loo roll. I really enjoyed my night at Revolver. I usually go to a much bigger rock club in the city centre, but there were definitely some features of revolver which stood out for me and I wish the club I go to had these features, such as the outdoor area.

There were a few things though, I have respiratory problems and the stairs were a struggle and I'm not sure there was a disabled access, if there was I didn't see it. Also drinks were served in plastic tumblers and staff were seen piling the empties into buckets and dragged along the ground which for me didn't seem very classy but I don't think it's meant to be a classy place just a good place for a few drinks and some live music.

Gorgeous beer garden with plants and flowers, plenty of seating outside and also two patio heaters. Staff are always happy to help and are quick to serve when it gets busy. Quiz night is on a Monday it's great fun with prizes up for grabs! Food is also served- however the new menu has lost a lot of the pub favourites. Still a great place to visit day or night. If you're planning to go to Liverpool after closing time- a taxi is you're best option.
