Place was mostly empty but seems the city doesn't wake until late afternoon. The people who were there seemed local and the food was what we wanted. I got the currywurst and my husband the schnitzel. Portions were larger than we expected for the price (but we are from Cali). Got a couple glasses of Kolsh. Service was friendly and the staff accommodated our English-only. Menu had English descriptions, which has been rare at these local spots. We paid cash, not sure if they would have accepted Apple Pay.

Classically, it's filled with chicken. There are also variations without meat like one with Halloumi cheese or falafel. One other great thing: Every guest gets a small cup of Arabic style cinnamon tea (that can even be bought for a reasonable price to make at home). It doesn't depend on what you order - it's standing on the shelf where you order and shortens the waiting time. Although that's not needed most of the time as you'd rather burn your mouth from finishing the great, hot tea than finishing it before the friendly staff serves it to you. You can get the meals either as a bread to take with you or as a plate dish to sit down. Well, you may also sit down with the bread, but the portion in the bread is only if you are not that hungry. That's because I like them - the Schawarma doesn't make you feel sick after eating them like it happens after a really big Döner. Well what I want to say, if you are really hungry, you better choose a plate dish. They also taste great.

The spazle portion was enormous and loaded with gorgeously caramelized onions and cheese. The cheese schnitzels were exactly as you could imagine, crispy crunchy on the outside with a golden crusty and ooey gooey stretchy cheese on the inside, paired with either sauce it was fantastic. Jaegar sauce was packed with mushrooms in a brown gravy and the Balkan were fresh chopped onions, a flavorful red sauce and a white sauce with fresh herbs. Amazing amazing. Easily one of the best meals I had on my trip. Oh I made a reservation by the way so not sure how walking in would look like. Staff were very nice.

We got across the river to the Latäng District with no traffic at all - this must be what it's like when people are happy to use public transport options. The restaurant is covered in wallpaper of old photographs from the founding proprietress, Paula Kleinmann. Oma means "Grandma". The original photos are back with her family when the business was sold in 2023 to the Wolf and Küther-Jankovic families, who still operate it. Grandma Kleinmann passed away in 2009 at the age of 95, but her recipes live on here. The menu is simple - it's all schnitzel. We ordered a regular veal schnitzel with mushroom sauce and a Viennese pork schnitzel with "curry ketchup" so that we could better understand the difference. As far as we can tell, the meat for the Viennese pork schnitzel is sliced thinner and the batter doesn't fall off when you cut it. The meat for the regular schnitzel is thicker as its its batter, so pieces tend to crumble off when you cut it. Both were excellent, so it's just a matter of preference. Our son preferred the regular schnitzel and I preferred the Viennese one. I'm only sad that we had to leave leftovers on the table, but we really couldn't eat another bite. We like that they made non-alcoholic drinks. Our son had the blackcurrent spritzer and I had the rhubarb one. We also ordered a dessert of strawberry ice cream which was embedded with frozen strawberries. We hustled back to the hotel on public transport, taking first the train and then catching the last bus back. https://www.beiomakleinmann.de

My cousin's girlfriend was especially picky about not having cilantro in her pho but when it comes she argued there is cilantro. I honestly felt a bit embarrassed on our part but I'm glad the owner was pretty chill about it. We later realized that the owner speak some mandarin which is cool. It's a clean and organized place, including the washroom. Not hard to find although at night and especially on the weekends or a Friday evening the parking is hell. There are trains so it's pretty convenient.

Listen up...This place has a hidden gem. The tiramisu at PastaBar was better than anything I had in Rome. The updated version still had the thicker cream but this time there was a bit more liquor (ok with me) and came with fresh fruit (outstanding). I've heard they also have a great chocolate cake (which was sold out). I will go back to PastaBar for tiramisu each time I'm in Koeln, and plan to try the chocolate cake as well. FYI - I deduct one star b/c the pasta was ok. Even though this place apparently makes pasta for Moroccan royalty, I preferred the more al dente pasta found in Rome.
