Got a helmet here today. Dude that helped me out was knowledgeable and offered sound advice on the kinda gear I needed without making things too complicated I left with a helmet that has this dope a$$ tech called "mips" that basically lets the helmet rotate over your brain instead of delivering the impact directly to your head in the case of a collision that isn't necessarily direct. (Which is most mountain biking collisions.) I wasn't intending to buy a helmet of this quality and I watched YouTube video in the science behind this technology and was pleasantly surprised that I made a purchase in the highest safety range available at an affordable price. Not a great experience. I needed a child's bike assembled. I called 3 bike stores and they all quoted the same price, but I went with Bicycle John's because Mark was so nice on the phone. The bike was supposed to be done on Friday but when I called on Sunday they had not even started yet. But he said he would do it now and I could pick it up in 2 hours. OK no problem it's the holidays and they are probably busy. Then I get a call saying that even though it's a new bike, the tube on the tire is not holding air so they would have to charge me for a new tube and labor. OK seems strange but things happen and I need the bike working so again no problem--I'm trusting them. Then when I go to pick up the bike, the charge for the basic assembly was higher than the quoted price. When I questioned this, I was told the owner must have raised the prices and they were not aware. Now, you would think a good store would honor the quoted price and Mark even suggested that maybe they could lower the labor charge for the new tube but the person at the register said no; I would have to pay the entire amount which now makes me question everything. I would be curious to hear the owner's thoughts on this--hoping he will respond. read more

In terms of customer service and general service, I would give them 5 stars. The employees were great to talk to as someone new to town and were very inviting which is what I look for in a bike shop. What ultimately convinced me on the 2 stars was being baited on the price. I was quoted 110 dollars which included tune up along with shifter and brake housings and cables. I initially didn't want to go for a tune up because I literally wanted the housings and cables setup along with the front derailleur (then when I go back to whatever I'm from, I would get a tune up or take my time tuning up). I was convinced by one of the staffs when he said tune up included the labor cost to installation and adjustment which is a really easy sell for me. I even got a receipt that showed 110 dollars for the rough estimate and they would give me a heads up if they were going to change the price. A few days later, I go back to pick up my bike and bam im charged 128 dollars. 18 dollars isn't a big deal it's just I was never warned or given a heads up plus they didn't completely change my shifter housing which is another sourness on top of it UGH. I'm used to paying 150 for tune up so 128 isn't bad it's just I would love a heads up and to be upfront about the price. I hate to be petty but it really sour my experience. Now how was the service? GREAT! which is all the more why the 2 stars sucks to give. Honestly, I didn't expect a tune up to really tune up my road bike as I bought it second handed and thought it was already tuned up. I highly recommend it as long as they're transparent with the pricing. read more

I liked this bicycle store until they charged me $50 for a part that goes for $10 in other places, unfortunately those other places were out of the part and like a moron I paid the $50. had an incredibly disappointing and frustrating experience at John's Bike Shop. I had a nail in my Super73, and despite living just 3 miles away with no alternative transportation, they flatly refused to patch the tire, hiding behind concerns about warranties and profits. It was abundantly clear that their primary interest was money, not assisting someone in dire need. Adding insult to injury, they didn't even have the necessary tube in stock and insisted it would take a torturous 10 days to order. Now, I'm stuck dragging my heavy eBike 3 miserable miles home all because of their unhelpful attitude. So I just took my ebike in to swap out the rear wheel, Kid said they don't work on my type of bike and recommended a different place. My bike was just here last week for an issue I had and they helped me out no problem. Not sure what's going on, maybe the son is taking over? Anyways it put a bad taste in my mouth, I literally called 2 days ago and said I'm bringing my bike back with all the replacement parts to do the job. They said ok, no problem or appointment necessary. Show up and they send me on my way? I'm pretty easy going butt this rubbed me the wrong way and I just walked out with my bike. read more

Its long overdue that i recognize the above and beyond customer service and expertise of this shop under the management of Mike, for the years i have been going to this shop for my mtb needs and referred my family and friends due to the expertise of staff not to forget their quality products in store. A month ago i was looking for an entry level road bike for my daughter who just concluded her 525 miler charity ride on an old 650 B sized loaner bike because she is so petite. It's been months i couldn't find a bike her size is XXS . I was lucky enough to talk to Jeremy and told me that its very rare to find one with the current shortage in supply. He tried to look online to other stores available but we were out of luck and try next year... I couldn't wait and reward my daughter for her amazing feat and bravery in finishing her bucket list ( suffering Arthritis since she was 10 y/0). At any rate, cut the long story short i finally found this shop out of state who's got the XXS Liv Langma sitting there and was advised by Jeremy that I can have it shipped there even tho' i didn't buy it from them... they were so accommodating even tho' they are always busy to fit the bike for her....to date we are still awaiting for a shorter stem to really fit her better as recommended by Mark and Sinhue although there was a hiccup because my daughter was not in a best condition to finish the fitting.... They were so helpful and understanding that they re- schedule it! On the other hand picked up my newly tuned up Giant Advance trance ...did a night ride and whoaa...like spanking brand new ! What a joke! I ordered and paid for a new bike for My son a few weeks ago. Today I went to pick it up. Sign on the door said to wait outside and they will come get you. I stood in line for about 6min when some guy with his kid pulled up and just walked in the door. I was told by the older man working that he would be with me in a min...that turned into another 10min. When I was finally asked to come inside, I saw they had been helping the guy who cut in line!! WTF! To top it off, they couldn't find my order form, then when they figured it out...that older man was trying to sell my bike to the guy who cut in line! He tries telling me he was just fitting the kid for a bike, BS. I paid for that bike...it should not have been on the showroom floor with no sold sign. Horrible customer service. I would not recommend this place for anything. I get times are crazy. Had someone shown some kindness or apologized I would not be posting but I am very disappointed in how this was handled. This is the finest bicycle shop I have ever done business with. While not perfect, their mechanical work and advice has been pretty good. I really like their selection of bikes and accessories. I purchased 2 bikes here in 2013, a mountain and a road bike both by Giant, and an very pleased with the purchases. I recently dropped off my new Giant bike for a minor repair (I broke a rear spoke). I'm not trying to sound braggy or douchey but I paid 5 G's for it so as you can imagine I care about it. Anyway, I dropped it off on a Sunday afternoon and was told it would be ready to get picked up that following Thursday. Thursday came and I called the shop around 2pm and spoke to Dom (mechanic) who said it would be ready around 4. Of course, I showed up at 3:55 and was told it wasn't ready. I sat in the shop for a half hour before Dom approached me again and said Giant sent the wrong spoke and he was unable to repair it. He would have to order the right part which would mean my bike would be ready to get picked up on Tuesday, 9 days after dropping it off. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday came with no part being delivered until late afternoon. I spoke to Dom on Thursday who said Giant must have been very busy and that's why the spoke was late but he promised me my bike would be ready to go before they closed on Thursday at 7pm. Before making another wasted drive I called on Thursday at 6:30 and was told that my bike was still not ready but it will be ready to go first thing on Friday. So Friday gets here and now the time of Bicycle Johns having my bike for a spoke repair is 12 days!!! I arrived in the shop super excited to see and ride my bike again. As it was taken off the repair shelf and presented to me I could tell there was some discomfort in the shop. Nobody was really saying much to me. I then heard Dom's voice come from the rear of the shop say "Hey man when I was switching out your tire someone must have thought it was trash and thrown it away but we threw another tire on there and it's a much better one" Ok... so now I am very frustrated, like WHAT?!?!? Who the heck throws away a perfectly good tire in a bike shop?!?! I was very upset that it took 12 days to repair my spoke and the new rear tire from my 5 thousand dollar bike was thrown out. I guess my frustration was visible because Dom said "Your bike is ready man, no charge." I was absolutely angry at that point, now I have two different tires on my new bike oh and I also forgot to mention that my frame just under my saddle was scratched. It's about a half inch deep scratch. Again, not happy! And I believe that's why they wanted me out of the shop in a hurry because I didn't notice the scratch until I got home. I've usually had good results with repairs and service at Bicycle John's but this last experience has left me with nothing but negative feelings for the shop. ****WARNING***** before you get a repair at Bicycle John's be sure to get an accurate estimated time of completion and cost and absolutely check your bike before walking out. Bicycle Johns is the only shop in town who has touched my gravel bike. Their service is impeccable, their employees go 150% to make sure you are taken care of. I'm sure other shops are great too, but Bicycle Johns is always willing to get me on the road and fix up my bike quickly and with great service. Today I got a flat on the path a mile away, and got me serviced and back on the path in about a half hour. I recently bought a mountain bike for my boyfriend from here and he LOVES it. I went in a few weeks early to look at some options and Mike went above and beyond. My boyfriend is 6'6 so finding a bike that fits is not an easy task. Mike researched for a few days and called me back with options. I later came in with my boyfriend and Mark helped us decide on which bike was best for what we wanted and what I was looking to spend. We were in constant communication from beginning to end. Once the bike arrived Mark would adjust something and let my boyfriend ride it until he had adjusted it to perfection. At the end Mark noticed something strange about the bike and even though we didn't know any different he insisted on fixing it and making it perfect.
