We hadn't realized…read morethey moved down the road a bit (guess it had been longer than we thought since we last came) so they now have their own private parking lot which is nice. Their selection of comics is colossal, the main reason we come back. Their game selection is also phenomenal and they even have a "game cage" for table top games to happen in store. Kids also have game and comic options as well as stuffed animals that are great for all ages. Staff is friendly, greeting us as we entered and various employees asking if we needed help with anything during our visit. We got what we wanted and continued our adventure. I'm glad we make FanFare a regular Kalamazoo stop and am already looking forward to coming back.

Have you been to Green Light yet? It's in a small, unassuming strip mall (slightly overshadowed by…read morethe liquor store next door, but once you have been to Green Light, you won't even notice the neighbors any more, so intent are you on getting INSIDE!), with plenty of ample parking. Inside, you'll find new and used records, tapes, and cds. (I mean, of course!) The walls are covered with interesting new releases and rare recordings. The bins are a joy to peruse, especially the 45s. Larger musicians have their own tabs, otherwise it is alphabetical. You'll find much here that you'll love, but it will also be hard to stay on budget. Luckily, they have a frequent buyer card (in $5 increments). Our favorite part is digging through the 45s. It's a trip down memory lane, with laughter galore. I cannot believe the 80s fashion that ended up on record sleeves (I know, I wore it myself, but not in such a...memorable way). The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The music playing is especially interesting. And, although we haven't done it yet, they do purchase music from customers (hence the enormous selection of records for us to discover treasures within!). Previously, my favorite record store was Electric Fetus in Minneapolis. This has definitely replaced it, both for warmth and service. Go!

We were not in a rush but excited to get a ring ordered. The sales lady that we had previously worked with seemed happy to see us but had obviously lost our quote, name number and all, and was flustered and soon mad about the situation. In trying to remember - without letting on that she had forgotten about us- she came up with something very different than what we had talked about. Neither my wife nor I took her irritated manner personally but were a bit flabbergasted when she rolled her eyes at us and disappeared into the back room to complain about us to her manager. And she was loud. And offensive. My wife walked out by this point but I stayed to try to resolve the situation. After a few minutes, Doug (who I believe is the owner and seemed like a nice enough guy) came out and gave me an overpriced quote to apparently run me out of his store. Now I realize that customer service isn't what it used to be but this was a failure on so many levels - and such a different experience than we had been hoping for. I now hear their ads on the radio and can only say this: an ad may bring in a customer but bad service and the word of mouth that results from it can be devastating to a business. Might I be so bold as to suggest a drastic change in attitude - and employees for that matter.

IMO, Plato's is great for shopaholics who routinely buy items from stores popular with younger people and don't wear the item or wear it once before realizing before the season is over that they want to get rid of it. That doesn't apply to most people. So unless you have a ton of basically new and recently bought Forever 21 or American Eagle stuff you'd like to sell to plato's at 1/3 of the price they would sell for there, you're going to have a bad time selling. Sorry, but I've tried enough to know that I am not a Plato's seller. As far as buying, though, this location is great. More well-stocked than others and the employees actually don't ignore you! They have a huge selection and often run sales, so if you're looking for younger branded stuff at lower prices, it's a great spot to go. As a frequent Plato's shopper and not a seller, I think this location comes out pretty far ahead a lot of others that I've seen. (So -1 Star for Plato's just generally having a lame selling experience, sorry.)
