As I was heading into work, I noticed that Kerb was doing a special day at UCL, so I headed over to…read moregrab some lunch. I had tried most of the traders before, and I have weirdly been craving fish and chips for awhile, so I headed over to Saltwood to give them a try. On offer were fish and chips (£6.50), calamari and chips (£5), Pescado Fritto (£8). I was sorely tempted by the Pescado Fritto (mixed fish fried in polenta), but I didn't have enough to add the chips, so I opted for good old fish and chips. I'm really glad I did. The fish was perfectly cooked. It flaked where it was supposed to flake, and the beer batter was insanely crispy and delicious. And the chips? Triple cooked, so they were slightly crispy on the outside, but deliciously fluffy and soft in the middle. The mushy peas were more of a pea puree, but given the state of the fish and chips, I didn't care. Also the homemade tartar sauce was some of the best I've had. I've had fish and chips at different places around the UK. Most of the time, fish and chips in London just can't compare to the seaside. But Saltwood have it down. This is probably the best fish and chips I've eaten in London so far. I will definitely have it again. I'd love to try the Pescado Fritto, but with the fish and chips being that good, it will be hard to break the chain. Unless I can find someone to go with me to share...

Kudos to Natalie W who initially pointed me to Victus & Bibo. I've walked past this stand many…read moretimes on a weekend, but never realised that it served food during the week! The friendly bloke who runs this stand apparently operates a few other ones around London including the halloumi and mezze stand on the end of Leather Lane Market. Whilst chatting with him as my wrap was being prepared, I discovered that Victus & Bibo used to be a juice and coffee stand in the mornings and a food prep area for other stands. Currently, they're sorting the inside of this stand to eventually be a breakfast stop for coffees, juices, and porridge, as well as continuing to serve lunch. In fact, rumour has it they've netted a World Barista Champion to serve up the java! As far as the actual grub goes, I was merrily satisfied with my 'lamb bread': ground meat, veg, sauces, with grilled halloumi for one quid extra. It's quite the affordably filling lunch at £4.50 that won't leave you feeling like you just consumed a gut bomb (I'm looking at you, Chilango).

When we visited they only had one option, the amazing halloumi salad (you could choose salad with spicy chicken+ halloumi...or just with halloumi.) As there was only one option, the line moved forward pretty quickly as the two ladies behind the counter quickly threw together amazing salads for all the hungry folks in the queue. I loved it. The salad itself is tasty, the humus is gorgeous, they give you a good splash of yogurt, and both the halloumi and the chicken were perfect.

First saw this street food stand at the first Kerb South Bank on Saturday earlier this year, I was…read morewith family and we ended up buying 2 crab burgers, one with harissa and the other with wasabi mayo. I'd really wanted samphire and tartar sauce but he'd run out of samphire. The burgers were excellent, despite being fried in batter, they still had a great crab flavour and it went well with the wasabi mayo (can't comment on the other one, my dad all but inhaled it). Coincidentally, we ended up there on Sunday, and I ended up going again, but he still didn't have samphire... It was a popular combination! And each time I was turning up around 3/4pm, well into the day. So I tried the pomegranate combination, which again was fantastic. The following Friday, I ended up at Rupert Street market for lunch with colleagues, and guess who was there? Crabbieshack! Did he have Samphire and Tartar sauce? yes to the first but no to the second! I still ended up with a burger though... 4 crabs in 3 meetings. But the following week, Douglas kept some aside for me and I finally got what I craved. Worth the wait? You better believe it! He's not always at Rupert Street Market, but can be found at Kerb at various locations (check their website). I voted for him at the British Street Food awards and he's just won the London heat! Don't actually know how many crabs I've eaten from him now... just that I will probably be eating from there again the next time I see the stand!

It had about 5 or 6 stalls and immediately I spotted crab. It's hard to find good a good fish sometimes but I love food that is quite unique so the crab burger was on that I had to get. A normal crab burger on its own was £7.50. But pricey but a double was £11 so I thought what the hey and leave the fries and just double up. A crab deep fried in battle. The chilli coriander and wasabi Mayo defo gives it an edges I I could go for this sauce. It was very good. Very messy though. Can't help feel some street food vendors should show a bit more value with a side added for free or a more reasonable price. Seeing as I've been to all over America I know you could get this and fries for about £10 at most. Expensive lunch. It was near the city workers so might be a target but it was very good. I'd love to try their crab salad for £7 and see how much meat you get with that.
