Awful customer service! Ridiculous waiting time for the simplest foods and won't be going there ever again!

Fave place for coffee or lunch in Drogheda (4/5 green stars)…read moreThere are a few good places to eat or have coffee in Drogheda these days (such as Salthouse, down on the Quay) but Relish has been my favorite for a few years. They make nice flat whites, their scones are great, and every lunch dish we've had here has been good too. I also like the feeling of the place - it's situated in the old Franciscan friary, next to the Highlanes gallery (free entry) that occupies the church. Apparently the Franciscan monks had been in Drogheda for 760 years before they left in 2000 and donated the church and friary to the town. Relish café has lots of light and staff members are always friendly. I'm also giving them 4/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: * They have a reasonable number of vegetarian/vegan items on the menu but could do with a few more. * For meat-eaters, all of the meat is Irish. * They use free-range eggs. * They say that they use "fresh and seasonal ingredients from local suppliers" but could be a bit more forthcoming with details. I wrote to them for more info but didn't hear back. * For a few items they do name their sources. For example, Hegarty's cheddar, which is made in Cork using milk from their own small farm and vegetarian rennet. That's about all I have - I'll try and pay more attention next time and pick up more info : ) Interested in writing green star reviews? If so, contact me!

Great veggie soups and nice outdoor space (4/5 Green Stars)…read more Forge Field has become a regular spot for lunch when in the area and it's always a pretty good experience. The soup is always vegetarian, by the way, and really constitutes and entire meal with you eat it with the bread. The soups usually pair a (very sustainable) root vegetable with a spice or herb, for example carrot and cumin or the excellent parsnip and thyme. The goat cheese sandwich is also highly recommended. Tarragon mushrooms on toast are a staple for mum - it's the one item from the breakfast menu that's available all day. I'm giving Forge Field 4 out of 5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, for these reasons: · Family-run business that makes its own bread, bakery items, etc. · Reasonably good selection of vegetarian options. Could have more on the vegan front but they will accommodate vegans with off-menu items, if desired. · Good supporter of local ingredients and businesses. · If you look to the left side of the parking lot, you'll see a new milk dispensing machine from Feckin Clogher Milk. You can purchase bottles and then come back and refill them over and over.

We all got the full Irish Breakfasts, which were delicious. I'll be dreaming about their brown bread toasts for a long time! We also enjoyed purchasing baked goods (scones and mince pies) in the adjoining market on a couple of occasions, which were also wonderful. The shop was also well worth a visit.

If you need convincing of the bare food ethos (explained on their website) then just try their scone. It's vegan and made with dried fruit and nuts to replace the refined sugar that you'll normally encounter. It's definitely more nutritious than a regular scone and also won't result in a sugar crash. Anyway, the food and coffee at Bare Food don't disappoint and staff members are always friendly. Café seating, both inside and in the laneway, is comfy. A good place to spend some time. I'm giving Bare Food 4/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact for the following reasons: · Lots of vegan and vegetarian options (veggie sausage, tofu can sub for chicken in most dishes, vegan pastries, vegan butter). Eating a mostly plant-based diet is the #1 thing you can do to save the planet. · Tea is from Tea Pigs (a B-Corporation, plant-based packaging, member of ethical tea partnership) and coffee is from 8thCorner (sometimes organic) · Kombucha from SynerChi, made from organic tea in Donegal. Smoothies are made fresh, to order. · Compostable cups, but I do wish they could provide ceramic and glass for customers who sit out in the lane (A strange rule for Covid, I guess, even though it's not spread by touch). · Would like to see organic food, or some info about sourcing on the menu.

The kind of food served at Five Good Things is not a million miles away from the old Relish menu, so if you liked Relish, I suggest checking out FGT! I went with my brother and nephew and we all enjoyed our meals. I was a bit disappointed in some aspects of my vegetarian breakfast, it has to be said. The veggie sausage and black pudding weren't very good - the other items on the plate were much better. Easily fixed - pick different options for the sausage and black pudding (if store-bought) or perhaps use substitutes like beans or lentils. I'm also giving Five Good Things 3.5/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact. * They have a good number of vegetarian options on the menu and I guess some could be made vegan by leaving out the cheese or eggs. * For dishes containing meat, it's mostly chicken, which has a much lower environmental impact than beef. * Coffee is from Our Boy Bailey (Coffee Perfection roasters) in Dunboyne. 1 kg bags of beans are for sale. It's hard to find good info on this coffee but it seems that they aim for direct trade relationships with coffee farmers. * Would be nice to know about ingredient sourcing and that kind of thing - the website is very sparse on info. * Coffee travel mugs (keep cups) are for sale, encouraging costumers to do away with pesky disposable cups.
