Forgefield Coffee Shop - Soup and goat cheese sandwich - both excellent.

Great veggie soups and nice outdoor space (4/5 Green Stars)…read more Forge Field has become a regular spot for lunch when in the area and it's always a pretty good experience. The soup is always vegetarian, by the way, and really constitutes and entire meal with you eat it with the bread. The soups usually pair a (very sustainable) root vegetable with a spice or herb, for example carrot and cumin or the excellent parsnip and thyme. The goat cheese sandwich is also highly recommended. Tarragon mushrooms on toast are a staple for mum - it's the one item from the breakfast menu that's available all day. I'm giving Forge Field 4 out of 5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, for these reasons: · Family-run business that makes its own bread, bakery items, etc. · Reasonably good selection of vegetarian options. Could have more on the vegan front but they will accommodate vegans with off-menu items, if desired. · Good supporter of local ingredients and businesses. · If you look to the left side of the parking lot, you'll see a new milk dispensing machine from Feckin Clogher Milk. You can purchase bottles and then come back and refill them over and over.

My family and I were recently vacationing in the area and visiting family who live in Termonfeckin…read more We had breakfast twice in the Forgefield Coffee Shop during our visit and loved our meals each time. We all got the full Irish Breakfasts, which were delicious. I'll be dreaming about their brown bread toasts for a long time! We also enjoyed purchasing baked goods (scones and mince pies) in the adjoining market on a couple of occasions, which were also wonderful. The shop was also well worth a visit.

Fave place for coffee or lunch in Drogheda (4/5 green stars)…read moreThere are a few good places to eat or have coffee in Drogheda these days (such as Salthouse, down on the Quay) but Relish has been my favorite for a few years. They make nice flat whites, their scones are great, and every lunch dish we've had here has been good too. I also like the feeling of the place - it's situated in the old Franciscan friary, next to the Highlanes gallery (free entry) that occupies the church. Apparently the Franciscan monks had been in Drogheda for 760 years before they left in 2000 and donated the church and friary to the town. Relish café has lots of light and staff members are always friendly. I'm also giving them 4/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: * They have a reasonable number of vegetarian/vegan items on the menu but could do with a few more. * For meat-eaters, all of the meat is Irish. * They use free-range eggs. * They say that they use "fresh and seasonal ingredients from local suppliers" but could be a bit more forthcoming with details. I wrote to them for more info but didn't hear back. * For a few items they do name their sources. For example, Hegarty's cheddar, which is made in Cork using milk from their own small farm and vegetarian rennet. That's about all I have - I'll try and pay more attention next time and pick up more info : ) Interested in writing green star reviews? If so, contact me!
