I'm a big fan of Beyond Retro's Shoreditch outpost so always take a peek in the West End store when I'm on nearby Carnaby Street. Similarly large with a good selection of vintage dating from the twenties to the eighties, Beyond Retro is a great vintage shop which is especially good for high-end vintage dresses and the like. Being a bit of a vintage snob I love Beyond Retro's racks of older items from the twenties through fifties. This is the place to find the perfect silk chiffon fifties dress or the ultimate embroidered silk satin kimono. Also notable is Beyond Retro's footwear section for vintage ankle boots, sandals etc. Don't take my word for it, visit Beyond Retro, I assure you you will not be disappointed. read more

It is nice to have a this type of vintage shop in the West End as it was lacking until this branch opened a couple of years ago and sometimes you want to find a full petticoat to wear under a new dress or whatever, in the same shopping trip without having to travel across London. However, I do have one major problem with Beyond Retro and that is that for me, wearing second hand clothes is all about finding something a bit different and out of the ordinary and what BR does is find THE item of a season (this winter it's the ubiquitous checked shirt), bulk buy it from America for like a dollar an item, and sell it on at a ludicrously inflated price so that the whole world ends up wearing extremely similar, one-off items. read more

This particular Beyond Retro store is located On Great Marlborough St. in Soho. Beyond Retro specialises in decent quality second hand/retro clothing. You will definitely find some really good stuff, but it can be a little expensive. I try and go to charity shops to get my second hand clothing, but if you don't have the patience for that, I suggest you go to Beyond Retro. I have to say, there is quite a big difference between this store and the one in East London. This store has a typical Soho vibe, and does not have the edginess of the store in the East. The display of clothing is much more organised in the Soho store, and the clothes racks are not as choc-a-bloc as the ones in the East end store. read more

Prices were decadent but I felt like you really had to dig to find quality. We ended up not buying anything. After passing this store for the umpteenth time while walking down Great Marlborough Street in an attempt to avoid the hoards of people walking down the parallel Oxford Street, I finally succumbed to its retro call and took a look inside today. I have to say, I was expecting something quite different. And by 'quite different', I mean all the same pieces of trendy vintage clothes at exorbitant prices. Instead, I found a selection of clothing from all decades of the twentieth century at rather reasonable prices, considering the store's Soho/Oxford Street location. Sure, there were some overarching trends going on here (a sign on the door at the entrance touted the great selection of jumpsuits that had just arrived. seriously. jumpsuits? who looks good in a jumpsuit? the answer is no one.), but peppered between hackneyed vintage items the store held a plethora of other items from the heinously tacky shoulder-padded polyester blouses of the 80s to some truly fabulous 50s swing coats. The store truly was beyond retro, as it showcased the good vintage fashions along with the bad. As for the prices as some others have outed as being too high: I've seen vintage fashions on ebay for three times the price of similar items at Beyond Retro. Sure you're not going to pick up a jumper for 2 quid, but if that's what you're looking for, perhaps you should try shopping at the car boot sale of your grandmother's church group. Personally, I'll happily hand over 12 pounds for a button-up blouse in excellent condition that I can try on first in the well-appointed and inviting changing rooms at Beyond Retro just around the corner from where I live. Furthermore, Beyond Retro has almost as many men's options as it does women's ones, and its wide variety of accessories and shoes make it a good stop for vintage browsing. read more

There are two Beyond Retro's in London - one in central London and one in the East. The latter seems to have much more choice but if you are wandering around central London, this place is a great vintage stop-off! This Beyond Retro is a little more organised and much smaller than the store in East London. I prefer the selection of accessories in this branch. The staff are pretty friendly and helpful and, unlike, the other branch, I always end of leaving with a top or a skirt. I find good vintage finds harder to come by in Beyond Retro's East London branch. I love the fact, though, Beyond Retro have a shop in central London. It's close to the tube and it means you don't have to spend shed loads of money in Topshop's vintage dept! read more

I was walking in Soho with a pep in my step and I found Beyond Retro on a small road behind Oxford Street. That was a lucky day. I walked into the store, ambling down a flight of stairs that brought me into a lair of sartorial delights. There are rows and rows of really cute clothes from eras before your grandmother was born up to times when Hammer pants rocked the early 90s. The buyers have really good taste and you can find items that are total runway material for super cheap. I bought some vintage open toed heels for £12 and every time I wear them I get compliments from everyone I see. I also found a luxuriously soft rabbit fur coat for just 50 quid! I truly loved this place! Being a 60s fashion fan, this littlw boutique brought my shopping dreams to life. Everything from psychedelic vests, crop tops, purses, dresses, hats....the list goes on! I bought a BEAUTIFUL vest that looked like it came straight out of 1967, it was better than I couldve ever imagined. I only wish I couldve spent more time browsing. Only downside is it's a little pricey, but you have to expect to pay a good buck for anything vintage. read more

Finding some gems or lots of rubbish is a matter of luck, but thats usually related to all the cheap second hand shops. Love this basement shop as it really feels like you are stepping back in time and rediscovering something. There is a great variety of clothing and accessories laid out by type and colour - I love colour coding! I was a bit disappointed with the quality of the shoes which weren't really saleable in my opinion, but the beautiful dresses made up for it. I'll be popping in here regularly from now on. I love Beyond Retro and this branch used to be most local to me so I'd often frequent it! I always find different things everytime I go - and usually end up buying more than I originally went in for! You sometimes need to rummage to find the goodstuff - but it's worth it when you unearth some of the treasures! As you walk down the steps into the giant dressing up box that is Beyond Retro, you are greeted by a soundtrack of 70's rock and a selection of mannequins showcasing the look of the week, be it Ziggy Stardust Space Attire or Egyptian Lover with an 80's Edge, (it's always worth checking out, as the best pieces from the shop are often displayed here.) Covering vintage from 1930's - 1990's, the good fashion moments & the bad, there's a big, well ordered selection offering something for everyone, although still remaining edgy. Jumpers, rock t-shirts, 50's sundresses, kimono's, sequined jackets, playsuits, party dresses, body con skirts, jeans, leather jackets, shirts, bombshell swimsuits, shoes, boots, belts, trainers...considering the Soho location, everything is surprisingly well priced and good value. Beyond Retro is also a great stop for festival costumes & theme party looks, you can find theatrical pieces to create a unique outfit, rather than going down the obvious fancy dress path. read more

Make time to visit Beyond Retro - and when I say make time, firstly make sure you go and secondly, give yourself an hour for rummaging. That may sound mad but this place is packed to the brim of vintage fashion, for both men and women so you can get your fix on some sometimes outrageous but always cute, outfits. After a disappointing attempt to track down the mysterious charity shops around Kings Road yesterday I ended up at Beyond Retro, and once again was disappointed. It's really a shame. A year or two ago I might have taken my frustration in stride and started to pepper my wardrobe with fey monstrosities. Only they're expensive here, and I'm not so into the joke that I'm willing to dash out twenty five quid for an ugly sweater. This is a really stacked vintage clothes and accessories store in London's west end. The same brand also has a place in Shoreditch but this one is equally useful for your throwback fashion. It's downstairs and a bit dark and feels like walking into a wardrobe that's been shut up for a couple of decades. The range for girls and boys attire is pretty impressive and there are some really interesting novelty items as well as standard t-shirts, jumpers, jeans, belts and hats. The prices aren't bad either so you can't really go wrong here - everything's just a matter of taste remember. read more

Beyond Retro is a little gem hidden underground in what used to be an old car park just off Oxford Street (a few doors down from the infamous Ping Pong dim sum restaurant). The store is very large for a vintage boutique and sells an array of leather boots, frocks, blouses, shirts and more. Stepping into the changing 'rooms' are like stepping back in time and a must to check out, and don't miss the ladies lingerie section just off to the side of the changing area. As much as the thought second hand lingerie can turn even the most robust of stomachs they have some really great 50's Basques, oversized pants and long wafting gowns. This shop is huge, so be prepared to spend sometime in here going through all the dresses, sweaters and t-shirts on display. Don't miss the menswear section, though, it's where the coolest t-shirts and vintage shorts can be found. I usually go to second-hand shops looking for great unique clothes, shoes and acessories for reasonable prices. Although sometimes I think the prices might not be that reasonable here, you might find some gems (like a Gucci bag for £10). read more

I was looking for some dresses and was lucky to have a lot of time, because the sizes were a bit odd. But other than that, I had a fun time choosing something and found a wonderful 50's dress and a blue and white shirt. Sadly I couldn't find a 60's dress that fit me well or some petticoats for 50's dresses. I also had a tiny problem paying but all in all, it's a groovy place. read more

Good vintage shop, I liked the clothes I picked up. It will forever be one of my fave shops because I bumped into Noel Fielding there (brilliant). HOWEVER, it is slightly overpriced. Granted this vintage look is in fashion now so it is going to become more expensive, but it is too expensive for what it is to be honest. Also, the staff are horrible! I am a big fan of customer service, and here they look you up and down and are really funny with you. It kind of makes being there uncomfortable. I wouldn't stop going because of it, but I would feel a lot better about going there if you got treat well! read more
