BevMo is on my way home and I would frequently stop in for something, about 3 - 5 days a week. I did not appreciate being asked to show my ID even though i look double the legal age and the clerk recognized me from previous visits. I did not appreciate the clerk scanning my driver license through their data collection machine, so I stopped shopping there. Today, my baby was at trader joes next door, so I said what the hell - ill pop in and get some beer. I had my ID ready 'cos I knew the routine, I told the clerk he could look at it but DO NOT SWIPE IT, he said no problem, I just need a manager to approve it. Apparently the clerk is unable to validate a drivers license, this requires management. After waiting 5 minutes and holding up the line the manager appears, the clerk hands him my driver license and before the clerk can explain the situation the manager SWIPES IT! Pure incompetence. i enjoy this BevMo over the other ones just because of the location and the fact that it has more stuff than the camarillo location. BevMo is a good second to Total Wine in thousand oaks off moorpark rd in the best buy shopping center. now that place is the best larger selection and usually cheaper prices than BevMo too go check it out and you'll be convinced . read more

Great selection of local beers and wines...but it is a chain store.

If you are looking for special imported beer or high end wine and liquor then this is your place. The prices are slightly above average but you can almost always find what you are looking for. I don't what else to tell you except make sure you have a Bevmo card for discounts and there is free tastings on Friday and Saturday between 5 and 7 pm. I guess between 5 or 7 am would be a bit early for samples of alcohol. read more

Always went to BevMo and love the store, HOWEVER the employee named Steve was very rude and seemed to be a bit racist by asking us to repeat our phone number in a mocking way. The customer behind us also told us he made fun of him and was "being a total dick". I will call again to speak with the manager because that's very rude and unprofessional. He should not work at BevMo. If BevMo had employees like that, it's a bad reputation. I will be calling again. Even when I asked for a price he was very rude and rolled his eyes. I will call tomorrow and speak with the manger and if he allows this then that says a lot about the company of BevMo. I hope disrespectful people who make fun of their customers gets fired. Everytime I go in here I'm never disappointed. On my last visit earlier this week I had an excellent experience. Travis helped me find a liqueur I needed for a recipe. He was very nice and helpful and didn't just suggest I buy the most expensive thing, like I figure most people would do, especially since it's just for a cake. Never been disappointed with the service, great people, great products at a great price. Can't go wrong with 2 buck chuck either. They have some stuff that you can find cheaper elsewhere but this places is pretty much a one stop shop. I enjoy Bevmo. I like it here on the weekends when I do my shopping. The fact that they have taste testing here is the best part. I have found a large selection and feel that the on line order system is fantastic. I always get something new for a gift and never felt disappointed. Price points can be higher but the sales can make up for it. Listen if you are a 3 buck chuck person you might not want to shop here. Different vibe. I give this place 2 stars only because the selection is okay and its location is convenient for me. Everything else is pretty awful. 1. The staff doesn't seem to know what its doing. I feel like every time I go in there they are just learning or they're still new to the job. Every other time I go in, their checkout policy is different-- do you need to get the manager to check my ID? Can my wife take the bag that I just paid for? Every time its different. Employees are not particularly helpful or happy either. 2. I can't buy a mix-a-sixer. I mean, seriously, this concept just makes sense! I don't want to commit to a entire six pack of beers, why can't I just pay for each bottle individually? If you have such a large selection, it would be beneficial to be able to try many different beers. Anyways, they actually have cardboard six packs, which imply that they have this mix a sixer system. And I actually put six different beers in there. Yeah, they were all from 6-packs, that's how it works.... or so I thought! And then the checkout lady looked at me like I was crazy! "We can't do that, sir. It's just for the sodas." Really? The sodas? I didn't even know that they sold sodas there. Absolutely absurd. Don't you think that some customers would want this? I was willing to pay you money for individual beers, but instead, I just left because you guys couldn't handle it. Fix this immediately. BEVMO LISTEN TO ME, I'M GIVING YOU GOLD. 3. Bevmo is overpriced. The mark-up is pretty crazy, especially since they share a wall with the Trader Joe's that sells the same stuff for dollars cheaper. Yeah, the selection isn't as nice, but at least the people that work at Trader Joe's are competent. The buy one get one for 5 cent deal is pretty good.... but you have to get the same exact bottle! I ordered a keg of Amstel on Sunday for a party the following Saturday, When I asked when the keg would arrive, I was told they get deliveries 3 times before then. I was told they would call when it came in.Since I didn't hear from them by Fri, I called them. They would have to check and call me back UH-OH.Well they called back and said my keg of PBR was all set to go.They didn't get the amstel, didn't call to say they wouldn't be getting the Amstel, so now I have no time to get it anywhere else. BevMo! is terrible. How can they be so popular, based on the number of stores. And their prices are extremely high. I see several reviewers raving about their selection. The beer and wine is so-so, nothing to crow about. The liquor selection is abysmal. One person claimed "everything your heart desires"...clearly that reviewer does not drink spirits or make cocktails as they have little more than a grocery store would, and much much higher prices. Here's an example: I was fresh out of Cynar (if you know about classic cocktails you would know this, if you don't drink cocktails, you might not; "Jack n Coke" is not a cocktail by the way). The workers there, three of them, did not know what this is...it's not really that uncommon, I've seen it in grocers and mom n pop stores. I did find it. Impulse buy: I picked up a Junipero gin. Again, a pretty household name in CA (it's made in San Francisco). They had nothing else on my list of less common items. Oh well. Was shocked when they rang up the total of more than $80! i knew it was a mistake and asked...only to be informed the prices shown on the shelves are "club prices." Oh goodie...one of THOSE stores. So the Junipero, which my grocer carries, is 25% more at BevMo!? Why? I'm not joining the Club. I don't do clubs...they only benefit the store of course. I learned on my last (and I do mean final) trip to BevMo that the "mo" is for more expensive. So how are they so popular out here in CA? They're terrible. I'm reminded of Blockbuster video stores...lots of advertising, poor selection, staff totally unfamiliar with their products. Maybe BevMo will go the way of Blockbuster. Good riddance. Something is going on with the training of management at the Ventura store. I needed to return a bottle of Johnny Walker Gold that I bought for my father in-law as he is visiting; turns out my wife was shopping at the same time and didn't tell me until we got home that she bought her dad the same thing; she paid $55 at Costco while I paid $79.00 at Bevmo. I went back and tried to return it not really saying too much and they completely shut me down and said no and were flat out rude. I asked for the manager and he said nothing he can do with a smirk on his face; they were rude. I buy alot of wine and sometimes beer; I'll stick with Trader Joe's and will not shop at Bevmo anymore nor will I recommend them to any friends; it's unfortunate but Bevmo listen........ Customer service is #1; train your management that the customer comes first or you'll be out of business real quick.... read more
