We ordered a keg of Firestone on a Tuesday morning for an event we were hosting on that Saturday. The order was handwritten on a sheet of paper and we were not given a copy; just told we could pick it up on Saturday after opening. When my husband got there on Saturday morning he was told by the manager that they didn't have the Firestone we had ordered available. Fortunately, an employee overheard and corrected him; they did have what we ordered. However, they did not have the ice tub that the keg sets in, which we had understood was included in the order. The manager's "oh well" attitude was disappointing and even when my husband asked if they'd throw in a free bag of ice to compensate his reply was, "No, we don't do that." We spent almost $200 for this keg of beer. It's the last time we will order one from BevMo. read more

Perhaps, as other reviewers have already mentioned, this BevMo location is finding its footing. I was so glad they have my favorite fancy tonic water- no HFCS- and I picked up a cocktail shaker for $10 because they forgot to take down the signage from their Grand Opening special. Even though I didn't buy any booze I was carded, which is flattering (I guess?) and I was glad they honored the sign, even though the sale was over. i must be one of the only people in CA to like sloe gin fizzes, at least based on the fact that I only ever found sloe gin in one liquor store in Ventura, and the bottle was always really dusty and overpriced. Maybe the turnover will be a little better with BevMo in town- at least it will be cheaper! read more

I just spent 120 bucks at my local bevmo in Ventura. Left the store with goods in the cart. 20 feet from the front entrance the automatic wheel device locked up. I slammed into the cart. I hurt my wrist and my rib. I had to drag the cart to my car (5 feet away) to unload my stuff (with my good hand) and then drag the cart away from cars pulling out. I went into the store to tell them that this had happened, I was hurt and upset, and my car is literally right our FRONT. The 2 gals in there said "ya well there IS a painted line..." and "Nothin' WE can do." My reply was that someone would get hurt really bad, and then they would have a suit on their hands. Joanna was super friendly, very helpful and patient with me and my parents. She saved us $30 by suggesting that we download their app as they had a promotion going on (this was not brought up during my visit to the Bevmo in Camarillo the same day) We felt very welcoming here vs. being treated badly at their store in Camarillo. I'm usually left with favorable impressions of BevMo, but unfortunately the Ventura store was a big disappointment. First, the young employees had boxes, carts, and cases of products scattered throughout the isles, making it virtually impossible to view any of their beers. They had absolutely no concern about customer-service; never acknowledged me or offered to clear away their stuff. Secondly, their beer selection is pathetic compared to other BM locations I've visited. Next time I want to purchase beer, I'm driving to the Santa Barbara location, where the service is great and selection is even better. read more

Not sure where all the ride staff comments come from but we love this location wayyyyyy more than the Santa Barbara location. Now that place has a rude staff. The staff isn't very helpful about telling you when or how to get certain limited bottles of whiskey but when you get lucky and do find one the price is way better than local rip off stores like Pat Holden's and Happy Place liquor. Not a fan... prices are way overpriced on the majority of things I drink and the Inventory is weak or selection too narrow but... the selection of beer/ale is decent. They lack in scotch/bourbon/rye's. The tequila selection is better than a grocery store but only slightly. read more

While I was checking out with the cashier, I pointed out that the cocktail pickle stirrers were all out of date. I was able to find one container that wasn't expired and then I was carded before I was able to purchase them. I asked the person ringing me up if you need to be 21 to buy pickles and she said you have to be 21 to purchase anything at BevMo. Instead of worrying about carding people for pickles, they should worry about pulling expired food from the shelves. read more

I love BevMo, but the one in Ventura is by far my favorite! I just got married, and Alex helped greatly to get all the alcohol I needed for a 180 guest count event. There was a keg in particular that was hard to order and find, but he made sure it happened for us, and my now hubby was so grateful for that. Also, I believe the lady who delivered our order was named Janice. She was great as well. I also love their buy one wine bottle get the second for a nickle deal. AMAZE! So, the rules are, order on line and pick up. Well, not so much! During the quarantine, if you order on line, you have to wait in line for the walk ups. The staff allows access to the store for people who don't pre order and just show up to buy beverages. Not maintaining social distancing. I was completely blown away by the lack of service. I was trying to buy a keg and they wouldn't accept my empty keg for the deposit swap because I didn't have my receipt. The keg I had was from the same distributor, the same brewery and it was identical to the keg I wanted to buy but they wouldn't take it. I asked to speak to the manager and she said NO! I asked what the deposit was for and she said it was to make sure the customer returned the empty keg, so I pointed to my empty and said exactly, here you go. She said NO, not without a receipt. I said but I have the keg right here and it's the same keg for the same beer. She told me to put down another $40.00 deposit. Again I asked for what and she said so you'll return the keg, so I replied that's what this is right here?? She said NO! We wont accept it! I told her this is ridiculous. I spent a lot of money at this store over the years, I was a regular customer and if she insisted on this I will leave and never shop here again. She said fine, so I left. I've been swapping kegs for years and never come across a store like this. I wasn't trying to return if for money, just swap it for a full one. Talk about loosing sight of the bigger picture. As it turns out a lot of other places have better prices, the same beer keg was $22.00 less at Total Wine and More and they didn't care about the keg. read more

I visited Mon APR22, 2013 and I will NOT recommend this location. Please stick to your local liquor store sales. FIRST of all, I have been to this location several times with friends in tow. Well, this time the cashier wanted to card my friend too-even though he was not buying anything. This has never happened in my past 50 visits so WHY start now. Totally unacceptable customer service and if I had thought of it at the time I would have just left the store without buying a thing. Completely rude and-wow-never happened before-so why is this location suddenly enforcing this "card my friend" thing when he wasn't purchasing anything. I thought it only fair to update my review. The beer selection has improved slightly since the store opened. They have a few selections from Ballast Point, Lost Abbey and Oskar Blues now. The prices are pretty competitive for Ventura - although no one can compete with Total Wine in Thousand Oaks. I hope the beer enthusiasts in Ventura continue to drive the demand for more beer selections. But BevMo Ventura is probably now the best overall craft beer selection in the city. It still has a lot of room for improvement. Hoping for the best! read more

Many items are mislabeled. It seems like the restocking staff does not pay attention on proper product placement. I bought a bottle that was labeled $23.99 and at the register it priced for $40.00. I really like this place but I don't see myself going back anytime soon. I will most likely look for another place to make my purchases. read more

This BevMo has the best customer service!! We came in here needing to buy wine and liquor for my sister's wedding. Alex the assistant store manager helped us through the whole process, suggesting good wines and champagnes, even opening the tasting room so that we could try them. I had to walk out the other day when they told me they had to SWIPE my drivers license for me to buy a bottle of wine. I told them they could hold it and read it but they didn't need my hair color and weight in the BevMo database. BevMo is on my way home and I would frequently stop in for something, about 3 - 5 days a week. I did not appreciate being asked to show my ID even though i look double the legal age and the clerk recognized me from previous visits. I did not appreciate the clerk scanning my driver license through their data collection machine, so I stopped shopping there. Today, my baby was at trader joes next door, so I said what the hell - ill pop in and get some beer. I had my ID ready 'cos I knew the routine, I told the clerk he could look at it but DO NOT SWIPE IT, he said no problem, I just need a manager to approve it. Apparently the clerk is unable to validate a drivers license, this requires management. After waiting 5 minutes and holding up the line the manager appears, the clerk hands him my driver license and before the clerk can explain the situation the manager SWIPES IT! Pure incompetence. My bartender in Belgium was 16 years old - here in the land of the free, I must wait for a manager to approve the validity of my drivers license?!? F THIS PLACE read more

Always went to BevMo and love the store, HOWEVER the employee named Steve was very rude and seemed to be a bit racist by asking us to repeat our phone number in a mocking way. The customer behind us also told us he made fun of him and was "being a total dick". I will call again to speak with the manager because that's very rude and unprofessional. He should not work at BevMo. If BevMo had employees like that, it's a bad reputation. I will be calling again. Even when I asked for a price he was very rude and rolled his eyes. I will call tomorrow and speak with the manger and if he allows this then that says a lot about the company of BevMo. I hope disrespectful people who make fun of their customers gets fired. BevMo is a good second to Total Wine in thousand oaks off moorpark rd in the best buy shopping center. now that place is the best larger selection and usually cheaper prices than BevMo too go check it out and you'll be convinced . read more

Great selection of local beers and wines...but it is a chain store.

I give this place 2 stars only because the selection is okay and its location is convenient for me. Everything else is pretty awful. 1. The staff doesn't seem to know what its doing. I feel like every time I go in there they are just learning or they're still new to the job. Every other time I go in, their checkout policy is different-- do you need to get the manager to check my ID? Can my wife take the bag that I just paid for? Every time its different. Employees are not particularly helpful or happy either. 2. I can't buy a mix-a-sixer. I mean, seriously, this concept just makes sense! I don't want to commit to a entire six pack of beers, why can't I just pay for each bottle individually? If you have such a large selection, it would be beneficial to be able to try many different beers. Anyways, they actually have cardboard six packs, which imply that they have this mix a sixer system. And I actually put six different beers in there. Yeah, they were all from 6-packs, that's how it works.... or so I thought! And then the checkout lady looked at me like I was crazy! "We can't do that, sir. It's just for the sodas." Really? The sodas? I didn't even know that they sold sodas there. Absolutely absurd. Don't you think that some customers would want this? I was willing to pay you money for individual beers, but instead, I just left because you guys couldn't handle it. Fix this immediately. BEVMO LISTEN TO ME, I'M GIVING YOU GOLD. 3. Bevmo is overpriced. The mark-up is pretty crazy, especially since they share a wall with the Trader Joe's that sells the same stuff for dollars cheaper. Yeah, the selection isn't as nice, but at least the people that work at Trader Joe's are competent. The buy one get one for 5 cent deal is pretty good.... but you have to get the same exact bottle! If you are looking for special imported beer or high end wine and liquor then this is your place. The prices are slightly above average but you can almost always find what you are looking for. I don't what else to tell you except make sure you have a Bevmo card for discounts and there is free tastings on Friday and Saturday between 5 and 7 pm. I guess between 5 or 7 am would be a bit early for samples of alcohol. read more

Everytime I go in here I'm never disappointed. On my last visit earlier this week I had an excellent experience. Travis helped me find a liqueur I needed for a recipe. He was very nice and helpful and didn't just suggest I buy the most expensive thing, like I figure most people would do, especially since it's just for a cake. I enjoy Bevmo. I like it here on the weekends when I do my shopping. The fact that they have taste testing here is the best part. I have found a large selection and feel that the on line order system is fantastic. I always get something new for a gift and never felt disappointed. Price points can be higher but the sales can make up for it. Listen if you are a 3 buck chuck person you might not want to shop here. Different vibe.
