Poor selection, very poorly trained staff. I came in looking for a wine and was really disappointed to see how few they carry. Whites are broken up into three categories: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Grigiot. Everything else is lumped into one small shelf of "Other whites." European wines are in one sparsely populated aisle, divided only into "French" or "Italian." I came in looking for a German varietal and could not find it nor anything else from Germany at all. When I spoke with the staff, they were completely unfamiliar with the type of wine, thinking that maybe I was asking for a particular brand, asking if I was looking for a brand of Chardonnay. When I explained to them that it was a varietal-- like, Chardonnay is not Sauvingon Blanc-- they directed me to Sauvignon Blanc. I finally gave up when I realized that there was no way they were going to figure out what I was asking for, much less find out where it was in the store (assuming they carry it at all). I understand that they can't hire an entire staff of sommeliers, but a basic working knowledge of the product is not too much to ask. This has pretty much sunk the BevMo chain for me. So. I was at BevMo last night (coasted in on fumes), looking for a bottle of wine to give my boss for his birthday. First. They did not have a single bottle of Ridge in that whole effing store. Ridge is my go to wine when I'm trying to impress someone with my ultra sophistacted palate, and not spend more than thirty bucks. Second. They DID have Terra Valentine, which I happened to drink (and pay a 300% markup on) at the French Laundry, so that was pretty exciting. The bottle had two hearts on it though -- WITH AN ARROW GOING THROUGH THEM, so rather than send the wrong message, I picked up the closest 90+ point bottle at a good price point that I could find. That was a long sentence. And now I have Phil Collins stuck in my head. Awesome. So I get to the register, and the person that was at the register paying when I walked in the store WAS STILL THERE. STILL. I am probably one of the most impatient bitches in the east bay (ask anyone anywhere near me at the toll plaza), so I decide to take a deep breath, and think of relaxing things -- like kittens and baby giraffes and waterfalls and Kenny G and period films starring Emma Thompson and a nice fresh sledgehammer directly in this dude's skull -- and wait. There's one person ahead of me. She gets to the register. Can't find her card, can't decide between a blah and a blah blah, and then saunters over to the Vitamin Water display and tells the cashier, "I want a water. What kind of water is this? What are the flavors? Can you tell me more about them? Oh, I don't know. Peach flavored water?? Do you have raspberry?" It was like being stuck in line behind my mother. This could go on forever. So, old Sasha T. had finally had enough and shouted "OH, COME *ON*!" I was channeling George Costanza. My inner George was tired of waiting. My inner George doesn't give a shit about your flavored water, shitheel. My inner George wants to go home, eat a bucket of fried chicken and pass out in front of a Nip/Tuck DVD. PS: BevMo isn't bad. This is not my usual BevMo and I'm rarely in the area these days, but I've been to this one several times over the years. It's smaller than most BevMos, but there is plenty of selection and it wins out over Emeryville for its chaos-free parking. I've never once had an issue with service or staff, both have always been pleasant and helpful when needed. read more

This place gets 5 stars automatically for stocking the best Australian Beer - Coopers Pale Ale. This is an underdog pale from my hometown of Adelaide. It's recently gaining acclaim in other states in Australia. It can't be brewed anywhere else than Adelaide due to the water making up part of it's taste. I went to the Albany store, with COVID-19 in play, was greeted by two very pleasant workers at the door. They, along with the signed clearly stated that you must go online to order beverages, and set it up for delivery or pick up. No more patrons are allowed in the store. I was given a cpl of delivery service options, or to go straight to BevMo.com. After going home around 3:00pm, we went online, and prepaid for an order to have picked up to save time. We received a notice that we would be contacted once our order was ready. Called a couple of times to see if i could reach a staff member, but they never picked up. Checked the website, provided our order number, still nothing. We waited until they closed and heard nothing. Store opened at 10am, and its 1:30pm now. Still nothing. This is too long for a small order to be prepared and ready. I'm giving them one star because the ladies were pleasant. THEY MUST DO BETTER. I understand these are difficult times, but if they can't do better, inform all customers via online or just answer the phone and let us know so we are aware of whats happening. read more

Been going here for years and for the last 6 months with my puppy as I have always seen and met so many cool dogs in this store, some of the people who work here know my dogs name at this point. Today I wasn't 15 feet into the empty store (I saw no other customers at least) and some lady I have never met who works there tells me no pets allowed. And that this has always been their store policy. Which is HILARIOUS since BevMo is literally throwing a "BevMo Loves Pets!" tasting events!!! Terrible Customer Service!!!!! There is a tall African-American lady with the blonde short hair that follow you all around the store!!!!Calls the manager and other people to follow you around as well. The only reason that I continued to come to the store it's because it's around the corner from my home.All last year I went to the Emeryville location dealing with the traffic. So I started going back to the Albany location.The same thing happen again after several months.The same African-American Employee that normally works the registers..Started following me and my sister around the store I immediately watched her pick up the phone And started calling for others to come and follow us around the store including the store manager!!! I was so damn mad I did not know what to do!!!however it was my granddaughter's 21st birthday and we were throwing her a get together and I did not feel like dealing with the traffic to Emeryville,So I continued shopping and bought all the items that we needed to make her strawberry margaritas that she requested. I promise you I was devastated when I walked out the store.. I felt like why did I give them my business when they were so rude to me.I spent over $390 in your store that particular day and to walk out feeling like a complete jerk is unacceptable!Just for the record everyone that comes in that is African-American does not mean that they are there to steal from you guys.I am on my own business and I consider myself financially stable enough to walk into your Establishment and feel the way that I feel is all the way wrong. Let me start by saying that I abhor the fact that BevMo stores do not all carry the same merchandise. Several times I have been looking for a wine or a whiskey that this particular location doesn't carry but the one in Pinole might. Well, darnit, I don't want to drive to Pinole! *However* The staff here has always been great. Very friendly and very helpful. It's been more than once that I haven't remebered the exact name of what I wanted and they've always been able to figure it out from my blabbering. I love the $0.05 wine sale though I find the 5% off coupons they mail us to be virtually useless and almost insulting. Whether its Faygo or Cricket Cola, their sodas will provide much entertainment for your underage friends and family. Beware anything with a large skull and crossed bones on it, it's the mark of the Skeleteens soda company. I don't often shop at this store but I wanted to try their contactless pickup. It did not go well. I entered my order one evening and got the "ready to pickup" email the following morning. I drove to the store, sat in my car, and checked-in using the link in their email. After about 10 minutes, I went inside and stood in line for the cashier who informed me they were having problems with their "system" and I should return to my car and wait while he told someone I was there. I waited another 10 minutes and someone brought out my order, which was accurately filled. read more

Not keen on big box stores in general a la Costco or Sam's, but for some reason, when I know it's all boozy goodness, I'm totally down with it. Must be me. Ah well. The boy and I had just finished a delightful meal at Hamro Aangan, and I wanted to head over to get some hard cider. Really, I was just hoping they had hard cider...at least more than one kind. Happily, they did! Several different brands awaited me, which made me very happy. I just did a dart in-dart out on this place, but everything was laid out nicely, they had a cheese-shop area, cold case, and lots and lots of wine. I'll certainly come back again to get my fave ciders and check more things out. Employees were friendly, they have a small parking lot, and it's easy to get to by bus. read more

It's like an alcoholics candy store. You can pretty much find any type of alcohol here. Aisles and aisles of wine. I personally love their selection of mixers. There's a wide variety of daiquiri, martini, and margaritas mixers. The prices are pretty good. Sign up for the bevmo club rewards, its free and it entitles you to their club prices. Pretty decent sized lot so there's no need to look for parking. Great one stop shop for all of your alcohol needs. If you're having a big party I'd suggest going to Costco as they have bigger bottles for cheap. But if yi you're just having a few people over, this is definitely a great place to go. read more

Pros: They have great selection! Prices are decent, Costco beats it by a little bit, Safeway is a little pricier. Cons: I was looking for absinthe. A salesperson here fanatically recommended "Green Moon". Green color, imported from France, great! Turns out it's just vodka, anise flavored and artificially colored. Even if I was supposed to know better, come on. That wasn't absinthe you just sold me, and I don't appreciate spending my money on fake products. In conclusion, I like the selection, but I wish we could trust the salespeople. You're going to have to do homework before buying your alcohol. read more

BevMo is BevMo, right? I've lived in San Francisco and in El Dorado County, where I had to drive like 25 miles to even get to one, but it's kind of a big box store where you know what you are in for - the liquor selection (for me) is fairly predictable, but the wines are kind of like an adventure. With my tastes, I'm not sure if I'm going to walk out of there with an old favorite that wasn't there last time, or some delightful -- or acceptably so-so -- new wine (that might or might not be there next time.) The help is usually robotic, and they always encourage you to fill out the surveys on-line and I never have before until last week I actually had a checkout clerk that talked about wine with me! Awesome! I ended up buying two more bottles (which came in handy for a last minute dinner party.) What bums me out is that the survey didn't let me tell how great this experience was for me so I'm writing this review to sing praises to Roxanna! I moved here from wine country in El Dorado County where most wine purchases were in an actual winery where you could talk about the wines. I've never expected this from a BevMo employee, but it was mighty nice! Plus, the store is less than a mile from my house. Dangerous. So, as BevMo's go, I'd say this is my favorite so far. Biggest complaint I probably have is about the parking lot. Best to park in the street - exit from the parking lot is too close to the corner of San Pablo and Solano and it can be tough to get out. read more

Very disappointed when ordering online today. I ordered first thing in the morning and had pick-up scheduled for 3:30-4:30pm and never heard back from the store. I called and a (presumably overworked) employee abruptly asked me if I ever got the notification that my order was ready. No, I explained, but it is past the pickup time and no updates. I was told "your order won't be ready until we are able to fill it and we are short-staffed today." Why give the option of a pick-up time that has no bearing at all on when it will be ready? I think this store is under-staffed for the amount of customers and I blame the managers for this. If you read this owner/manager, it is all about customer service. Pull it together. read more

Do not, I repeat do not order online for store pickup during this pandemic. They gave a 1:15-2:15 pickup time, we arrived at 2:30 at the snarky woman informed me that they are about 8 hours behind. Wait for another email that tells you the order is ready, would be nice if they told you this instead of giving you the pickup window. Went back the next day and part of the order was ready, the guy says "well I guess we were out of the other things". No, please go check on the shelves to see if you can find the tonic water. He launches into a tortured explanation that they can't do that and if the order is not correct to take it up online? Finally he agrees to go look and finds my tonic. Why makes things so difficult? They aren't up to the task of filling orders so they should close up and we can shop somewhere else. Very unpleasant experience. read more

They have a good selection of beer (Unibroue and Baltika are two of my favorite imports they carry, plus a couple different Belgian lambics), a pretty good selection of wine (not enough dessert wine would be my gripe), and they carry most of my favorite hard liquor (Chopin vodka, several decent Scotches, Frangelico, Becherovka, etc.) and aperitifs/digestifs (Campari, Fernet-Branca). Their prices are decent, the location convenient, and the staff are generally friendly and helpful (though it's true that not all of them know the stock very well). It's not the most amazing liquor store in the universe, but it is a very good choice for decent prices on common drinks for daily dinner wine or beer, regular weekend mixed drink needs, or for stocking up for parties. read more

So, I order four bottles of wine on their 5c sale. I go to pick it up and the cashier LONI won't pack up my bottles. I asked her if there were dividers I can have for my bag, I brought my own, she say "no they're too big for your bag". I notice there are a few lying around and ask for them. She took a deep breath, glared at me, got them and shoved it near my wine. And then started taking on the next customer while I was struggling with packing the wine that I bought from them. During my first visit to this BevMo, I was pretty impressed with the selection they have. I love BevMo because they always maintain the highest variety of alcohol that can't be found anywhere else. So, if you're looking for something very unique like I was, it's the spot for you. However, I ran into a little mishap at this store. I needed to pre-order some Cusquena beer for a party. This stuff is made in Peru, so it's pretty hard to find anywhere else. I decided to order by email, specifying I needed 8 cases. In parentheses, I put 6-PK BTL, which is how they came in. What I didn't know is that a case is actually a 24 pack. After not getting a reply by email for a couple of days, I decided to call and order. I made sure to specify that i wanted 8 6 packs, and was told that's what I would get. No price quote, no nothing. So, I come to the store, and standing in front of me is 8 huge 24 pack cases of Cusquena. I told them I specifically needed just 8 6 packs, to which I was given a huge blank stare for a good 20 seconds. Eventually, they let me take only 2 cases and left the rest at the store. Kind of an uncomfortable situation to be put in, but the fact that I wanted 6 packs and not cases was definitely mentioned. For that, I have to mark them down. read more

Check your receipt and save it!! When I lived in Albany, I'd frequent this BevMo for BBQ supplies. They overcharged me a few times, but I always had my receipt and my bank was able to retrieve the money, chalking it up to a machine error. This happened once or twice and I forgot about it and moved away. A few weeks ago I was in the area for a BBQ and stopped by for supplies. I bought a 750 ml bottle of Russian Standard vodka, a case of Racer 5, and a bag of chips. The total was $41.83. I absent midedly threw out the receipt, then saw the charge on my bank account for $141.83 - they had over charged me by $100!! Suddenly remembering the previous overcharges, I called my bank thinking it would be resolved. The store claimed to have proof that the transaction was legit when my bank called them, and since I hadn't kept the receipt, the bank could do nothing but advise me to take my claim up with the merchant. When I called the store, they told me there's nothing anyone could do because I didn't have a receipt. Overcharging once is a mistake, twice could be a coincidence, but three times is a trend. This is the ONLY store where I've had such an issue. I won't shop here again. If you do, pay attention to what they charge you and save your receipt! read more

I especially appreciate their Belgian selection which includes fruity lambics and the Delirium Tremens, and the Belgian-style Canadian beers, too. They also have a good variety of "microbrew" sodas as well. I do, however, think it is creepy that when they card you, they run your license through a magnetic reader. read more
