This is the cutest shop on Magazine Street! So many great gifts that represent New Orleans…read more I wasn't really in the market for anything, just browsing, but then I found a lovely Magnolia patterned dog collar - perfect for my beagador named MAGNOLIA! Then I found out from the shop attendant that the state flower of Louisiana is the Magnolia! What??? My boyfriend's mom was born & raised in NOLA and loved our dog. She has been gone for a year and half, so finding this out strangely makes me feel connected to her and that she is still around. :*) Anyway, the sweet shop guy asked me to tell him the story of how my dog and I found each other. I recounted the tale of how I found her at PAWS Chicago, where she came from originally (Oklahoma), that she had a brother named "Steel", how she saved me from a life of stress, and then our connection to NOLA. I always appreciate when someone can create a warm and fuzzy moment. So thank you, Shop Guy! The collar is high quality all around - material and construction. I have purchased MANY custom collars for my baby girl and this has been the best so far. It's worth the money because I know it will last for a long time. I will be checking out their website for Christmas gift ideas since we won't be back until next year!

Adorbs! What a bright, delightful little shop at the Irish Channel end of Magazine. Think of all the symbols of New Orleans and bayou culture and cuisine. Now imagine those artfully integrated into a subtle, tasteful geometric pattern that appears on high quality accessories for ladies, men, kids, and furry friends who want to keep a little NOLA with them always. NOLA Couture has developed custom fabrics and ribbons that show off your Gulf Coast pride in a classic preppy style that you can wear to office or church without coming off too wacky. Think ties, belts, key fobs, bags, scarves, pet collars & leashes, insulated tumblers, glassware, candles, and so on. The ties and scarves are 100% silk & wool. Patterns include: --red beans & rice --snoballs --poboys & hot sauce --gumbo --seafood --shrimp cocktail --beignets & cafe au lait --gators --redfish --Mardi Gras kings --Saints --Louisiana --sea turtles --pirates --2nd line --boats --mosquitos --fleur de lis --fleur de sea (with a fish, shrimp, oyster, and crawfish) --street cars --hurricanes --daiquiris --seahorses --oysters & pearls --pelicans --mallards --seersucker I could not resist coming home with a red beans & rice belt for myself, plus a few ties for the Cajun/Creole men in the family. I'll probably be heading back to the online store for more gifts for upcoming birthdays. Fans of LSU, Bama, Tulane, SMU (oddly), Florida and other southern colleges can find some neat things here, too. NOLA Couture even can do custom designs for you (your school, business logo, etc.), and shipping is free for orders over $65. Prices are not cheap (ranging from $10 for a laser etched glass to $95 for a loomed scarf), but the quality of the all the goods appears solid. If you are looking for $10 T-shirts about drinking on Bourbon, this isn't your shop, but then you knew that!

Perlis is a men's clothing store in New Orleans. Depending on whom you ask, it is THE men's…read moreclothing store of New Orleans. (They have a limited ladies section upstairs as well as children's clothing, but my experience is for their main focus, men's clothing) If you're looking for simply new polos up to a white linen suit or white tie, you'll find it at Perlis. Another big value of shopping there is the opinion of their very well informed employees that seem to know every sartorial rule/best practice under the sun. This long running family business has never let me down when looking for a new outfit to stroll the quarter in or the right formal rental for a mardi gras ball or otherwise. I think the best testament I can give is I used them for our wedding with no issue whatsoever. Only con I've experienced, and usually excuse, is to make sure and always try on their rentals before grabbing and leaving. I'd say more times than not, there has been a fit issue with the rental attire when trying them on. Shirt sleeves too short, shoes too small, pants too high, bow tie missing, etc. Perlis urges their customers to try everything on when you come to pick up anyhow, so just make sure to keep up with common sense and you should be good.

Our visit to Perlis (Uptown location) on April 10, 2026 left a really bad impression…read more My girlfriend and I, both locals, were shopping on Magazine Street for a dress for a summer wedding. We spotted one in the window that we loved, so we went upstairs to check it out. A clerk asked if we needed anything, and we happily said yes--we were looking for the dress in the window and just wanted to check the sizes and availability. Her response? "There are four dresses in the window," delivered in a pretty snarky tone, like we were clueless. It caught us off guard. We clarified that we meant the one with the floral pattern, and she immediately pointed us toward the sale section instead. At that point, I honestly wish we had just walked out. What made it worse was what happened next. While we kept browsing, two other women came upstairs, and the same clerk greeted them warmly and even offered them water. One said yes, and the clerk happily went to get it. The difference in how we were treated was hard to ignore. I've always liked Perlis and the quality of their clothing, so I'll still shop there--but only at the Covington location. I won't be returning to the Uptown store. Management should really address how customers are treated upstairs. Not everyone who can afford to shop there is going to walk in dressed up--some of us are in shorts, flip-flops, or workout clothes. That shouldn't affect the level of service. Pretty disappointing experience overall.
