The short version: Good beer, good service, an outdoor seating area for when the weather's nice and a tasty Sunday roast (it was my first, so I have nothing to compare it to), though I did find my meal to be a bit on the pricey side, but I guess that's a beef dinner in London for you.
I was actually in the neighborhood seeking a roast at another pub (Carpenter's Arms) but discovered they've closed their kitchen for renovations. The bartender recommended this place and, although it had no Yelp reviews, I gave it a try since it was so close.
I was immediately seated as the interior dining room was mostly empty. My server Anna asked if I promptly provided a drink and food menu. There are beef, chicken, pork, and vegetarian options for the roast. I ordered the beef roast as well as a lager. It was a warm weekend in London, so the lager, which was ice cold and light, hit the spot. The roast itself was very good. I actually think the stars of the show were the roasted veggies (potatoes, carrots, and kale). The gravy was very good, too. The beef itself was tender if also a bit fatty. With most English staples, I expect to need to add salt and paper but this meal didn't need as much of it as other meals I've had.
If I'm back in this area again, I would definitely come back for a pint and maybe another roast! read more
