So, I am a student in the Bethel School District, I have been since my family moved to the Spanaway…read morearea when I was only 7. I finished 1st grade here and the rest of the grade levels so far except 12th grade, and to be honest, I would have to say; overall the Bethel School District is a very bad one, often times the schools don't get ran well and there's also the issue of teachers, security people, assistant principals, principals, etc. Often times nothing good comes out of it, or they just put too much pressure on students, sometimes without even being kind about it. I have an IEP and have been in resource classes since elementary, and I often have gotten treated badly by teachers, other staff, and students alike. In elementary, it was sometimes okay with teachers but they didnt exactly say things as well as they should have, and students at school used to be extremely mean to me in school around that time and often times they still are. In elementary, they were rude to me and they said things like that I was gross, weird, etc. I often was not treated well, by the older kids and not by the younger kids. After 6th grade, it seemed ok at first but it really wasn't. I got so much shit from people about how I was friends with someone who was a guy who hung out with me a lot and ended up developing a crush on me, and people often made fun of me for it and teased me, also some people just were rude to me for no reason, the uniform was shitty (I went to cedarcrest for junior high- 7th-9th grade), i often was never noticed by some people but teachers and other adults often just did not understand me, were rude to me or went about things the wrong way. 10th-12th grade I have been at SLHS, and I hate it. The school is really not very good overall, if you count how it is ran, many of the staff, students, how courses are ran, the special ed department, funding, etc........ also there is the issue of transportation, and how that is the school I have to go to by rules since that's how it is with the boundaries and that angers me so much. I have been miserable at SLHS the whole time I have been there all or most of the time. I just can't get any respect and trust there and I just can't get a break!! If I am not careful, I could get sent to the kind of special education or education classes for people with behavior issues, and yet they don't really look into or care about WHY they have behavior issues and talk to the kids about it. Ms. Shenk is one of the staff there and she can be extremely hard to relate to and not only that she can be so very strict and hard on people even when you didn't do much of anything wrong. No wonder I have always hated school, I swear, it is just rediculous how everything (or almost everything) has went wrong, being in this school district as a student. And at my high school, SLHS, the staff often act like the school is so great but it is REALLY not. All or most of it is because of some good test score improvements, so really it might seem like it makes it a good school and it is a good achievement but it does not make it a good school. A good school helps people out, when they can, and does not just use tough love or rudeness on people when they are having problems or acting out or whatever it may be. And it definitely does not act like the student is the only one in the wrong. I am currently trying to get transferred into Bethel, and it is extremely hard... and it is so lame, it is barely even a mile farther away from my neighborhood/house than SLHS is and SLHS is 2.2 miles away, and really it shouldn't be so difficult for something so important. Education is a right, not a privelidge and it should provide options and choices. What happened to failure is not an option? Anyway, I will always be frustrated about it and remember the bad, but seriously, if the staff and other school or school district officials would just grow up and be more kind and understanding... it could help so much.
