Open Arts Studio - My son's birthday party here. He had the instructor teach everyone how to paint R2D2. Most kids are 5-6 years old only!

Although I wasn't part of the experience, my daughter went to a birthday party here yesterday. She…read moresaid it was fantastic and she would love to have her own party there. There was an instructional portion for the ceramics and then the kids were allowed to make their own items. She made a bowl and a cat. The family was also able to bring pizza and cupcakes in. She had such a great time that we have been checking out other classes that are held here. Very neat spot.

Open Arts is a studio offering classes in drawing, pottery, sewing, voice, piano and guitar. Most…read moreclasses are for children/teens, but they do have a fair set of classes for adults as well. John, the director of Open Arts Studio, is a dynamic guy who is so charismatic...it's easy to envision him sitting at a piano, leading a bunch of people in song around a piano a la Cole Porter. He's the voice teacher and drawing teacher and he's great at both. Home schoolers note: they offer classes during the day for home school students! For me, one caveat is the price. It's not astronomical, but most classes are about $125 for a session, about 5 classes, and it adds up. I believe it's because of this that some classes aren't very full. On the up side, if you take more than one class, or have multiple children enrolled, you get a 10% discount. They hope to add cooking classes somewhere down the line. We are looking forward to the addition as I know my daughter would learn a lot because they are both organized and inspiring at Open Arts!

Stone Education Center has to be the BEST education center the Army offers. The location,…read morebuilding, services, and people there are great. I actually went back to college and am currently attending FAST Class/BSEP. The counselors, teachers, facilities, resources and students are great. I love how this place offers more than just college but can assist in everyone in many ways. I've not only been here to attend classes but to give them as well. Stone Education Center has a great amount of classrooms available for people if they need to teach classes, or need computers to use, it's great. I've probably reserved a room here almost every other month for classes I needed to give. (THANK YOU MR. CASTRO FOR ALWAYS HELPING ME OUT!) All in all, if you need help in taking your first step to furthering your education, improving your knowledge on certain skills; online classes; in door classrooms; computer rooms; printer, copier, scanner access; guest access (no JBLM account); education counseling (MS. GERALDINE HESTER HELPED HUBBY AND I GET IN SCHOOL W/ THAT COMPLICATED VIA SYSTEM/BEST ED COUNSELOR EVER!); coffee/tea (thank you so much BATTLE BEAN! I LOVE YOUR CHAI TEA!); I can keep going but I think you get the picture. BLUF: STONE ED IS THE BEST!!!

Some of the services available include career planning and education counseling, five on-post colleges and universities, as well as access to 19 different off-post colleges. The Ed Center also offers test proctoring for those students enrolled in online courses. There is also a digital library for soldiers who are looking for a specific Army manual. There is a nice computer lab on the second floor and anyone with a valid military ID can utilize the computers and print documents. The MWR Bookstore is located on the first floor and allows college students the opportunity to purchase textbooks and school supplies. The staff at the bookstore are very friendly and helpful. Battle Bean Coffee Shop is right next to the bookstore and offers a variety of coffee and snacks. Parking is ample and convenient. For those who are utilizing the Fort Lewis Shuttle, the shuttle stop is directly in front of Stone Education Center.
