Moving them from Lamplighter was very timely as they were craving structured environments that had rigorous academics. I am thrilled that they have been able to pursue their passions - including theater, sports, volunteerism, so many clubs, and leadership opportunities. Don't let the small class size fool you, it is a blessing! There are tons of opportunities for growth and they encourage the students to shine based on their own merits. Contrary to that negative yelp post from way too many years ago (P.S. You can't blame a child's drug habit on the school. That's called observant & disciplined parenting), the administration keeps a close eye on the students and alerts the parents quickly to concerns or behavior shifts. I can confidently say that we have parented in partnership with the school to raise smart, respectful, creative, athletic, well-balanced students. And Lakehill's focus on college prep is indeed a strength. The college counselor Ms. Dondis is a highly acclaimed professional - even a sought after expert speaker in her field. I feel as though he is a mature, respectful, well-prepared middler who I expect to achieve a very sold, college readiness experience. In terms of technology, the school does use lots - iPads, laptops, labs..... fairly typical of what I expect from a school such as this. The most important part of my observation is that he is happy and likes to go to school. I'm impressed. When I lived and taught in Dallas, I had no idea what this school was until a colleague left my school to teach there. That was 1997 - and he is STILL THERE! Since then another friend left his school to teach there. At this point it got my attention. Then they hired a marketing director, and the school started appearing more and more in the paper - like a LOT. Service projects became popular and a mainstay, and it was clear there was a strategic plan executed that included some serious "play," which has paid off; all of these things, my nephew participated in. It's a best kept secret for sure. From a community member perspective, living in the Lakewood area was a good experience, and I was able to participate in their fund raisers (Trek For Tech, among others), even though I didn't have kids in the school. Overall, if you are looking for a private school, you may be immediately enamored with the "big 5 (St. Marks, Cistercian, ESD, Hockaday, and Ursuline), and there are HUGE merits to each of them, but Lakehill prep is not to be missed.

She is now 5, and in the Pre-K/Kindergarten program, and just loves all her teachers there. Miss Chere is clearly one of her favorites. And even though she is not in Miss Chere's class anymore, she always wants to make sure I take her to Miss Chere's classroom so she can say hi to her and give her a hug. But all the teachers continue to be great. And Miss Bloomingdale's as an institution is really an excellent value. For the combination of care, education and tuition rates...they are well worth it. And it's evident that they do the best they can to keep their tuition rates as reasonable as possible while still being able to provide a quality education and stay in business in this highly competitive environment. This is a locally-owned, family-run business that I'm proud to support, and I genuinely feel they have been overall a better fit for our family than other daycares/schools in the area that are most likely cookie cutter franchises -- and more expensive.

Ms. Lin, the director is honestly an angel and you can tell she puts all her heart and soul into her job and these kids. We are forever grateful that our kids were able to come here because they feel like family. It's just like dropping them off with their grandparents (which we were doing before they were old enough) except they get to learn so much. Yes language (Chinese and English) but also structure. My daughter was all over the place when she first started but now she's learned to be better about cleaning up after herself and when it's time to play versus time to learn. It's still a learning process for her but we can already see the vast improvement in just a few months. My son already graduated and is now in first grade but he stayed at Tzu Chi for 3 years and loved it. The hours are amazing for working parents. They have two time options so there is flexibility. They take pictures of your kid and post it in an app so you get to see a bit of what they're doing for the day. It's not every day but a good percent of the time. The kids get fed and the food(included with tuition) is delicious and nutritious. It is vegetarian food but they make such good vegetarian food that even my kids love it. Many of the kids after graduating still talk about how they miss the food at Tzu Chi and that their moms just don't make it quite the same. We go to their occasional fundraising events to specifically buy their vegetarian food because it's hard to find elsewhere. All that to say, don't let the vegetarian food deter you if you're wondering if your kids will get enough nutrients. My kids have grown up very tall and healthy eating it along with so many other kids. There are a few events throughout the year where you get to visit and partake in celebrations with your kids. It's so wholesome and they put so much effort into getting the kids ready. Sometimes I joke that I should have more kids just so I can send them all here. All jokes aside though, I would highly recommend Tzu Chi. Even if you don't speak mandarin at home, it is a wonderful environment for your kids to be in.

Our family has sent two children to Tzu Chi Great Love Preschool. Our eldest just graduated from the program this year, and our youngest daughter has just started. We initially appreciated how affordable Tzu Chi was compared with many of the other preschool programs that we considered, particularly given the hours covered and the fact that lunch is included. However, the most important part of the program has been the character education. The change in our son over his time at Tzu Chi has been remarkable. When he first started, he was much more likely to ask, or sometimes demand, that things be done for him. Now he regularly asks us, "How can I help?" He looks for ways to contribute and thinks about what other people might need. He has also developed a real concern for the wider world. When he hears about a natural disaster, for example, he asks what happened and what we can do to help the people affected. Of course, children grow enormously during the preschool years, and no school deserves all the credit for who a child becomes. But I honestly do not think this transformation would have happened to the same degree without Tzu Chi's consistent emphasis on kindness, gratitude, respect, responsibility, and helping others. For us, that has been more valuable than anything that could appear on an academic checklist. Our son left Tzu Chi as a kinder, more thoughtful, and more helpful person. We are immensely grateful to his teachers, and we had no hesitation about entrusting our daughter to the same school. He laughs and smiles everyday when I drop him off and pick him up. My dad drops in and goes to visit him during the day, brings the teachers and staff snacks and they are always so kind to him. It's comforting to know that his grandpa can go by at any time and see him- he always reports back to me about how happy he is there and how awesome the staff is.They are always doing art work, activities and keeping the babies and toddlers stimulated. They keep the front doors locked at ALL times and have multiple people working at the front desk who do their upmost to keep the school safe. There are cameras in every room and outside. I honestly can not say enough good things about this school. My son went to another daycare before this one and we hated it!!! The front door was rarely locked (which is super unsafe); no cameras; the staff was subpar... It was such a blessing to get the call from Fair Oaks when they had an opening for my baby. It's not the fanciest daycare/school in the world (aesthetic wise). It's older and could probably use some updating, but do NOT let that deter you from choosing this place for your child. The staff, policies, procedures, curriculum, schedules and knowing your child is safe makes this school so amazing. My family and I are so grateful we found Fair Oaks Day School!

They were loving, patient, communicative, and played such a positive role in his development. We are genuinely grateful for them and will miss them. My issue is with the director, Barkha, and the way leadership handled concerns involving my child. My child was attending Willow for 5 months. Barkha refused to meaningfully meet with us to discuss her reasoning for holding my child back in Nido as an 18 month old, despite this being an important decision directly affecting his development and classroom placement. As parents, we simply wanted a professional conversation, clear reasoning, and an opportunity to understand the decision being made about our son. Instead, the communication we received was dismissive, unprofessional, and condescending, all conducted through WhatsApp, which is the only platform the school uses to communicate. Rather than approaching the situation collaboratively or with care, Barkha's tone and handling of the matter made us feel unheard and disrespected as parents. Furthermore, she was adamant about receiving Nido tuition and once we put a stop on tuition in order to get a conversation held, she terminated our child (this is not the standard policy). What is most disappointing is that the teachers created such a warm and supportive environment for London, but the administration's conduct did not match the quality of care being provided in the classroom. I would strongly encourage any parent considering this school to pay close attention not only to the teachers, but also to how leadership communicates when concerns arise. In our experience, the lack of professionalism, transparency, and willingness to engage in a meaningful conversation was unacceptable.
