These come with a bathroom (shower over the bath), TV, hairdryer, refrigerator, and adjustable air-conditioning. The decor is a little dated, but it is plain and it was very clean. The beds were very comfortable each with four pillows. There was a small hanging area by the door but no wardrobe. Along the corridor was an ice machine and water bottle filling machine. Staff were very helpful on check in; there is a CN $100 card charge per night (so $300 an hour case) in case of additional purchases at the hotel. Breakfast is included in the price, but the choice is relatively limited. It is a buffet with cereals, sliced meats and cheese, a fruit bowl, and a cooked breakfast that consisting of fried potatoes and scrambled egg, alternating between sausages or bacon depending on the day. There were also croissant and toast available. The quality was okay, but not as good as many hotels we have stayed in. At busy times you may have to wait to be seated at a table, as the dining room is quite small. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay, because the hotel's location on the harbour was great. It's a short walk to the parliament building, the harbour side, and the downtown shopping area. There is a choice of lots of bars and restaurants within a 10 minute walk.

Parking can be limited as many locals eat in the restaurants and use the dock. Would be a beautiful venue for a wedding or special event. The gym is located in a strange area where you have to go over to the conference area or walk through the outside courtyard. Overall good stay and would recommend.

The front desk staff were very nice and helpful. There was no wait at all to check-in. Check-out was also very quick, there was no line so it only took a minute. The hotel has parking but requires a room key to go down into the underground parking lot. There are lots of spots available. The hotel also allows cars to be parked after checkout until 3pm (as of writing), which is really nice of them. The room I received was spacious. Upon arrival, there were nature sounds (birds, wind, forest theme) playing and the fan was on. There is heating but no air conditioning, and so the room was pretty warm, even for early April weather. I was given a room on the 7th floor, for reference. My room had a full kitchen, including a stove, fridge, sink, and microwave. Even had a taller dining table that serves as a kitchen island. The bathroom is big and feels luxurious, with both a shower and a bathtub. There were many towels supplied, as well as body wash, shampoo and conditioner. Overall a great experience. Would definitely stay here again.

For me, it's a 5-star, and this is why: -Charm. This hotel is 115 years old and is built in the quintessential Edwardian architecture of the day. Think Sherlock Holmes movie settings and you get the idea. Lots of woodwork, deep jewel-hued carpets in plum or green, leaded stained glass windows on the stair landings. Very VIctorianesque but less ornate. You get the idea. -Location. This hotel is on Government Street (Victoria's "main drag"), only 4 blocks from the Parliament Buildings, in a residential alcove, a few blocks from Beacon Hill Park. It's a 6-minute walk down Government Street to the inner harbor and the Empress. Literally. -Friendliness and helpfulness of staff. As soon as you enter the hotel to check in, you are met by the NICEST European man who greets you and helps you check in and get acclimated to the hotel and area. Everyone I encountered who worked here was genuinely friendly and wanting to help, in any way they could. The staff here honestly was a throw-back to some prior era, in some "old world" town. -Cleanliness. The hotel and my room was super clean. Unlike other places, I didn't feel I needed to sanitize any areas, or inspect the bed linens with a blue light. And the bathroom was well-stocked too, and all fixtures worked great. (I was a bit skeptical about the tiny old shower, but it surprisingly had great water pressure and got hot). -Price. I did a lot of research before booking this hotel. (I was in town for a wedding and everyone was staying at hotels in the inner harbor proper). This hotel cost WAY less than any other place in the immediate vicinity. By a LOT. And this hotel has free on-site parking, too. I'm not saying this place is "cheap", but it costs 50-75% less than any others in the area. -On-site restaurant and pub. I didn't go to these, so I can't speak to how good they might be or how pricey, but it was good to know they were here, in case I wanted to grab a meal or drink close by. As other reviewers noted, there are some real trade-offs when staying at a historic, older hotel: no elevators, no AC, tiny bathrooms, my room was tiny too, no modern outlets with charging stations, no built-in hairdryers (you need to ask for one at the front desk), no room safes, minimal storage for clothes. Did I mention stairs? There's even stairs you need to walk up to enter the hotel. (Good to know if you have a lot of heavy luggage). If you have mobility issues, please take this into account. For me, this place checked off all the major boxes, and I would definitely stay here again.

Ours was a two bedroom suite with one locked since we didn't need it. It is very well maintained. The water pressure is great. Kitche in stocked with dinnerware and cookware. Dishwasher, cooking range and a fridge along with microwave. The biggest selling point would be the view. We had 120° view of the waterfront. And it was stunning at night and our little one enjoyed the seaplanes activity and all the hustle and bustle. Kept the kid busy. The bead was comfy and big. They made the bed and changed towels per our request. They have's us bottled water everyday. That was helpful. Tip- the entry to parking garage is a bit tricky. Please do not follow maps. The stop sig is left only or right only. There is no straight road. So you have to come from Yates st or two blocked down on Wharf to turn into alley going down. They will buzz you in. Thanks to the amazing hotel staff for making our stay memorable.
