A York gold-mine. We came up to our cottage for the weekend, and I had gel nails on from a wedding 3 weeks prior- at that point, pretty much an emergency that I get them OFF! I came to Best on a Saturday around 11, fully expecting to wait. I was greeted and sat instantly! The place is HUGE, with two wings on the side filled with pedicure chairs, and plenty of manicure stations and drying stations as well. Gel removal was $5, and since I didn't have to wait, I decided to pick some polish and get a manicure too- another $15. All in all, it was incredibly cheap, fast service, and big enough to accommodate the weekend influx of vacationers looking to get beach-ready nails and toes. read more

I've gone multiple times. No matter who does my nails they always take their time and do a phenominal job. Very exceptional compared to other nail salons in the area who tend to rush through my appointment. I also get my eye brows done here and i'm always complimented on them! This place is horrible, if only zero stars was an option. I had never been happy with the pedicures I had gotten there, but my mom likes the place so I thought I would give it a try again.....big mistake! I went in today to have an acrylic fill and the nail tech, Mike I believe, was incredibly rude! I had read their services on facebook and it said they offered uv gel overlay, which is something I get on my acrylic nails at many salons back home. He told me that they don't do that and I would have to get gel polish. I told him I wasn't paying for that. Durning my entire appointment he tried to tell me I should have the gel, that it much better anyway. He also told me I must be mistaken about the overlay as it is impossible to go on regular polish as the polish is wet. When I told him how they do it he said "oh ok", but then resumed telling me I should have gel polish. After going to the drying station, I went and looked at the pamphlet of their services and saw, again, the uv gel overlay option. I said something to the girl about the fact that they offer it but he told me they didn't. She said something about it being gel and I said, "Yes, I wanted it on my nails, but he said you didn't do it". As I was walking out the door, he yelled at me "I told you we used to do that but we don't offer that service anymore". At that point I was just done so I said, "That isnt what you told me before" and walked out the door. As I was getting in the car, he leaned out the shop door and shouted at me, "never come back again". He has nothing to worry about, as I will never set foot in that place again! I have to admit that I was nervous trying out this salon after reading all of the reviews. I just relocated to York, ME and was in desperate need of a mani, pedi and brow wax. I was very impressed. Large salon, great pedi (sterilized tools), great gel mani and excellent waxing. I paid $65.00 total which I thought was priced right. Lily was my tech and she spoke very good English. Absolutely terrible! Paid $30 for a pedicure that wasn't even a real pedicure. Also told me it was an extra $5 to remove calluses mind you I get a pedicure every 2 weeks and don't have calluses. Very sweet employees. However, you are pressured from the moment you enter to get more expensive services. Relentless pressure. first, they guy rushed my nails. he cut my nails way too short and he cut my cuticles uneven so my gel isn't even. the nail salon i usually go to does 3 layers for gel and they only did 2. my sister also got them done and her guy worked 30 more minutes on her. her guy also gave her a massage on her hands while applying the lotion. i didn't get any of that. will not be returning. read more

I have never been to a worse nail salon in my life. I wanted a gel manicure and had an appointment for 12. My sister and her fiancé both got pedicures and I was STILL sitting there waiting. Then when I got my nails done they were uneven, some were filed round some were filed square and I had to ask them multiple times to fix them. Would not recommend going here. read more

I have been a customer for Best Nails for over 10 years. I have had manicures and pedicures all over the world in major cities and upscale hotels and this establishment is right up there with the best of them as for as quality and service. I will not go anywhere else when I am home. The service is friendly, polite and considerate. The owners do everything to make sure that their establishment is clean, sanitary and pleasant. (I have walked out of other establishments in the area as for the lack of cleanliness.) I have even been there having my nails done when the health inspector made a surprise "drop in" visit and not only could she find nothing to correct, she was very pleased with what she found. Although I always make an appointment as most other regulars do, I have never seen a "walk-in" turned down. There are so many services offered. If you are in a hurry or want to pamper yourself, it's all there for you. I just tried the "gel nail polish" manicure for the first time and I'm thrilled with the results. As for the price? You can't beat it. NYC? Boston? London? "Posh" Spas in our area?... A regular manicure is easily $50+ and the quality is often disappointing. I have never received a bad manicure, pedicure or service from this establishment. I even messed up my manicure on the way home in the car, (my fault!S), turned around to have it redone expecting to pay for another manicure or at least a polish change. Much to my delight and surprise I was not charged a penny. For friendly, accommodating , very polite, hygienic and very skilled services for the hands and feet I recommend Best Nails... The absolute worst nail experience of my life. I hadn't had a pedicure in about 3 months - and the stylist made sure to OPENLY express her displeasure to me and the stylists around me in both English and second language throughout the entire pedicure. I was with friends and have honestly never been so embarrassed in my life. If I was a mess I'd have just shrugged it off but I wasn't - I honestly don't know what her problem was and can only assume she was having a very bad day and taking it out of me. I was very apprehensive about going to get my nails done because of the bad reviews, but I needed to get a mani/pedi today. I made an appointment and showed up 10 minutes early for my appointment because of a previous reviewer indicating that they had to wait 30+ minutes for an appointment. They were very busy, but i was called right away to start my appointment. I found them to be professional and I walked away with a fabulous mani and pedi. The salon is way over priced for the service it provides. I took my 2year old niece and my 8 year old daughter for pedis last week. The price list is not posted but I asked if they do children's pedicures. The woman at the counter said they do, but did not tell me the price (I am used to paying $10-$15 for kids). The two year old couldn't reach the water. The technicians asked if the kids wanted flowers on their toes (what kid doesn't?), but I wasn't informed that it would cost extra. After their pedis, I was given a slip and I almost fell over! I was being charged $28, each!!!! I also had a mani and pedi ($40). I was in and out in 45 mins. Again, not worth the $$$ . Best Nails has received the Best Nail Salon Award for the past 10 + years running. These are votes cadt through Seacoast Media from area residents/travelers. There is a reson for this. The place is clean, the prices are reasonable, everyone is polite and friendly and they do a good job. I don't quite understand the negative reviews, especially when they say I have gone here several times. There are many nail salons/ spas in is general area. I would suggest you make an appt. I would also suggest that if you fail there is a language barrier, you should speak directly to Tony or Lea, the owners, husband/wife. Both or at least one of them are always present in the salon. This place is mixed bag and really just a gamble...I've had my nails done for 18 yrs and usually like seeing just 1 person. With a place this large it's difficult to do this...I truly wanted this to be my new place when I moved last year. The location is perfect but after a few bad experiences I just couldn't. There are a couple people in there that do a good job, pedicures are OK at best, not worth the high price and makes you feel like you're in an assembly line. It's hard because you need to really look around for a decent place but for the same money or less I strongly suggest Esse Salon right down the road. They don't do acrylics but they do pretty much everything else from facials, to waking, to mani's and pedi's and you won't feel like you're in an assembly line. They also do the latest shellac nails which are a hybrid polish that stays on for 2+ weeks without chipping. If you must have acrylics still look around. There are places in Portsmouth NH that are decent and 1/2 the cost. I've been here and 2 days later had my nails were all chipped and broken. The final straw was being charged $20 for my 6 year old nails to be painted. $20 for polish! (no mani, no pedi, no over the top design) and when I asked them about this they told me I got a good deal. Maybe $10, shoot maybe $15 but $20 for a 6 year olds nails? I don't think so, I have taken her plenty of places and never been charged this.... Just another place I have found with the attitude of "we're doing you a favor"... Huge turnoff for me... read more

I have been a client of Best Nails for at least 5 years and the place is always clean and the practitioners open sterile packets of tools right in front of you. I usually go to Vicki and her husband John for services. They are the best practitioners there and both give a good massage. I love the "hot stone"pedicure" . The prices are more than fair and I always tip generously as they work so hard at pleasing their clients. read more

I have read all the reviews. Last year I needed a salon that could take 4 or 5 people at a time. We were very happy with the results for all of us. John did my nails and he was very friendly and did everything I asked. I have been back many times and have never been disappointed. There are many salons closer to me but I like consistency rather than a surprise. I am waiting for them to open today so I can make an appointment for the weekend. I went to a nautical baby shower a couple of weeks ago. I showed John a picture from pintress and he copied it perfectly. Just my toes had a design. They may not be the BEST but they are priced right and very friendly but most of all, I have HAPPY with their work. Awful. Absolutely awful. I've gone time and time again, as it is the only nail salon close by, and I have never once received satisfying results. Whenever I go, they cut my cuticles too short that they bleed. Instead of apologizing, or cleaning, they smile and cover it with their hand so I won't see.. obviously I'm going to notice when my finger is bleeding all over the table! Also, they use nail polish thinners so your manicure will last just a few days before it chips, resulting in what they think will create more business. They're a scam, and a rip-off because they're pricier than other places. Also, their hours are wrong on their website. This place is very unprofessional. I've been getting my nails done since I was 13 and this place was terrible! First off I got my nails painted three days ago and it is already cracking and chipped they already need to be re-done! Second they took off my old manicure with an electric nail file instead of just using polish remover, it was not tips or that gel stuff that is different to take off it was regular polish and the electric file ruined the tops of my mails because he never buffed the scratches out! Then to get the remainder of the polish off I had to soak my hands in the acetone. I should have just taken off my old polish before I went it would have saved time and my nails from being roughed up on top for no reason! It was very clean which is what I had heard and why I went but I'll never go back if their manicures need to be re-done every three days!!! read more

Through the years I have had a minimal # of pedicures from others that have been disappointing but not bad. I tend to like a firm calf message. It's hard for me to even give this place 1 star considering it sucks. If I could give negative stars, at minimum it would be -20. I've been here several times and every time I'm disappointed but have given them too many second chances because I've been desperate due to the lack of nail places in the area. The last 3 times I've gone, I have gotten a gel manicure and it has chipped within 3 days. The first time I went back to get it fixed and it chipped again 2 days later - talk about some quality. I was also over charged because I had the dip powder on my nails before gel - I was told because it was dip I had to pay extra to remove it even though it is the same procedure as the gel that a women sitting next to me had removed but didn't have to pay the extra... I'm confused??? After years of putting up with this crappy place I will finally NEVER be going back and paying for over priced shitty nail service. I hope that I can persuade those of you who are thinking about going here to think twice because you WILL be disappointed. read more

I stopped in as a walk-in and was greeted at the counter by a man who found an available technician. Her name is Kim....do not have your pedicure done by this woman. Pedicures have always been a relaxing experience. I look forward to the soaking, the massage, etc. This woman's touch is nothing less than aggressive. The massage left me jumping in my chair. It was not a massage - it was an assault on my feet and legs While buffing my feet, she was chatting with the tech next to her. I guess I should say she was sanding rather than buffing. The next thing I knew the side of my right foot was sanded raw....she drew blood. Without a word, she applied something akin to stiptick to stop the bleeding. Not an "I'm sorry" crossed her lips. Then she clipped the cuticles.....drawing blood yet. Again, no "I'm sorry"....just some other concoction to stop the bleeding as she applied the polish. I do not have a low threshold for pain so if you are the least bit squirmish about your tender feet, I repeat - do not have this woman give you a pedicure! read more
