I had broken a bunch of my nails while on vacation in Maine. It was driving me crazy and decided that I'd try to get them fixed. A local recommended Best Nails to me and it was just a couple of minutes from where I was staying so I figured I'd check it out. I walked in around noon on a Saturday without an appointment and asked if anyone could do a dip manicure for me and was immediately told to pick out a color and have a seat at station 8. The nail tech I was given was named Helen. She was pleasant and efficient and got my nails in tip top shape in no time at all. I was impressed by the size of the salon. It's comprised of several rooms of nail and pedicure stations and at full staff it looks like they could probably accommodate a couple dozen people at once and there was enough parking outside for that many cars too. The decor was nothing special but the salon seemed clean and it was bright and welcoming inside. The price was comparable to what I pay in NH. It was actually a couple of dollars less but they also don't bother doing the hand massage with lotion like some other salons do. Although the do put lotion near the drying stations in case your hands feel dry after your manicure. I really liked Best Nails. I vacation in this area often so I'm happy to have somewhere local to pop in to get a mani or pedi if I need to. read more

I asked them to take off my fake nails and put dip on my real nail. The lady started doing a fill. I reassured her that I wanted them taken off and just dip on my real nail. No fake nail. She continued to tell me that this wasn't the right choice, but did it anyways after I corrected her. She cut my nails short when I didn't ask her to. I wanted to keep them long. She said it would be better for me at my job. I understand their job and level of expertise but I was very turned off by not being listened to. The color was horrible. I immediately went somewhere else the next day to get a completely new manicure. I wish I stopped and left and didn't continue with the service but I didn't want to be rude. They rushed through both of our manicures and never had us pay or turn the dryer on before painting our nails. when we left, my daughter showed me her manicure and it was not done well. It's not very sanitary! From what I could see I don't think the instrument are sanitized enough. I was on vacation and needed a gel manicure and a pedicure. They use the same foot scrubber just rinse it off. The foot scrub, mask, and cream the use on you legs are in a big jar and is used between the two technicians they just scoop it out by hand. ( they do wear gloves) The manicure stations had someone else's shaving/dust on it and we were the first appointments. They also leave a small gap between the Cuticle and the start of the polish. Worst mani-pedi ever today at Best Nails, York, ME. 4:00 appt began at 4:15. Pedicure was over by 4:30. Leg massage under 1 minute, clinician carried a dirty tray where everything in it was used before. Ugh. Towels gross. Then I was whisked to a table for a 12 minute manicure. Total time 27 minutes for $71. Wham bam thank you, ma'm. The nails look ok but if you go to relax and treat yourself, forget about it. Looks to me like they were unprepared for the Fourth of July rush. So, don't book appts if you don't have staff/time. I have been here a number of times and always received good service but today it was exemplary. I had previously had a gel mani done at a different salon and in ONE DAY the gels peeled off. Understandably I was upset and in addition am attending a wedding in 2 days so doubly upset about the botched nails. After arriving in Maine I made my appointment, as I said I've used Best Nails before, luckily they were able to accommodate. Had an appt. Went in waited 15 minutes. Then the owner finally started my nails. Kept answering the phone helping customers etc. an hour into a French dip nail and not even half done. Pushed me over to John and he started to finish. Nails look horrible. Told him they were supposed to be square and I'm not even sure what the shape they are. The total appointment took 2 hours. That's just ridiculous for what I ended up with. We both got the owner of the place and yes he has to answer the phone and help customers a lot but that's what an owner does. Especially since he speaks the best English. I went with my grandmother. She only goes to get her nails cut, they charge her $10 and it's pretty simple. Monday was horrible. The man doing her nails was vey frustrated with her. She's incredibly sensitive. She literally just gets her toes cleaned up, no paint no frills, and he was terrible to her. She needed gentle, that's all. He charged her $30, for a job not done. When we tried to ask why they're charging so much they acted like they couldn't understand a word we said. I got a pedicure and it was OK. The paraffin dip was boiling hot, I have burns on my feet and legs. Yes, I did say something but she just looked at me like she couldn't understand. The hot stone massage wasn't anything special either. The paint on my toes is crooked. Only half of each toe is done. I will never return. I'm really disappointed in how they treated my grandmother and their poor work. read more

I really WANT to like this place. It's a few miles from my house and the cleanest/nicest nail salon I've ever been in. But, that's not enough. I've been here multiple times when I don't want to get on the highway and drive to NH for a mani or Pedi and unfortunately I'm never impressed. First, they don't really do a great job. When they paint my nails they always get polish on the sides of my fingers. When I had acrylic nails they were always too thick even when I asked to have them thinned out. My pedicures are rushed most of the time. If they aren't busy you might get a 30 minute Pedi but if they are busy, don't expect to have it over 15 minutes. The woman sitting next to me at my last visit wasn't in the chair over 10 minutes for her entire pedicure, including soak time because there was a wait. Second, they never have enough people working. I don't understand the point of having 15 pedicure chairs and 14 nail stations if they only staff 7 people on a busy Saturday afternoon! Makes no sense. I had made an appointment for after work one day for a Mani/Pedi, as I was flying to the Caribbean for vacation the next day. They called me an hour before my appointment time to tell me they'd be closing early because it was snowing and they wouldn't have any other customers Really?? So I don't count? Cool. The biggest kicker is at my last appointment, the day of my bridal shower, I made an APPOINTMENT for 11am for a pedicure. I arrived promptly at 11 and proceeded to wait for 45 minutes for them to take me! I even told them after 20 minutes that I was on a schedule and had somewhere important to be. I mean, I wasn't dropping by to get my toes pretty and go grocery shopping! I was going to MY bridal shower, a once in a lifetime event that my bridesmaids had put a ton of time and money into. I had built a small buffer into my day, but not one that was 45 minutes. It was just plain ridiculous. I wasted time sitting there when I could have been doing my hair or makeup or anything else! I was rushed the rest of the day and was late to my own shower. I didn't get an apology, a discount, nothing. I'll give them two stars because of how clean the place is. Do not bother. I went with my daughters. They both got manicures and I got a pedicure. They kept pushing me to get the deluxe but I just wanted a basic. Worst pedicure I have ever had. Besides fresh polish my feet look the same. When I asked him to use the pumice he said that I'd have to pay for the deluxe. I should have just got a polish change. My daughters nails had cotton stuck to the paint. It's to bad I was looking for a place to go while we are here this summer. They also should get new polish. In Maine, there aren't a lot of amenities like a walk- in nail salon that can always take you on the spot. So two stars for that right away. Overall, they do a good job. The price point is worth another two stars. Plus, there is a weekly coupon in the local paper they have been offering for like 5 plus years. The music is bad but just go with it. I am really hesitant in writing reviews, because I do not have the intent to put any business down, or I always assume that it was an isolated event...however because of many unhappy occurrences I feel the right to voice my unsatisfied opinion about this place. So here it goes, 1)They do not do a very good pedicure to begin with, they do not remove the cuticle all the way, 2) They start the polish coat, far from the 'nail bed', I always have to ask them to paint a little closer to the cuticles, 3) Difficult to communicate, I try to explain what I would like to have done, but most of the time, I do not get what I want. 4) Every time I request something regarding my mani/pedi, they start to speak vietnamese, and of course I cannot know for sure if they are indeed talking about me, but it is a very uncomfortable feeling ! EVERY SINGLE TIME this happen. So, I am not sure if anyone else share my opinion, I will not be returning there, I will have to drive further down to find another nail salon... but it is better than pay for a service, give generous tip, and end up unhappy about the 'product'. read more

The salon is immaculate and Tony, the owner, is always warm and welcoming with regular customers or strangers. Each of his large staff takes their time and knows what they're doing. There is little or no waiting. The super-modern massage pedicure chairs are as wonderful as are the foot massages given by the expert technicians. While they are a busy place, especially during tourist season, I have never been rushed or put aside for others. I shared my discontent with the boss, had a female tech try to repair the challenges, she made marginal improvements. I chose to cut my losses and leave vowing not to return!
