I feel my "back" (roof) is covered no matter what, including relating to work done before he started working for me. I chose to use JC Solutions for these reasons, and would choose to even if the price were a bit higher, but as it turns out, it's not! The cost has been extremely competitive and reasonable on top of every other benefit. Now to share my experience. Jason responded quickly when I called him (from a referral from a more than satisfied friend) to investigate a possible chimney leak. Sure enough, there was damage to the chimney cap and siding that had resulted in a leak and the repair required a lot of creativity, ingenuity, and special customization of materials, all of which Jason handled with aplomb. He also replaced roofing boots which had leaked and later installed an unusual style of gutter guard which I chose to work best with my home and for longevity. Throughout, these projects required multiple visits, staying with the projects to obtain the correct materials and follow through, inspections, tweaking of various kinds (such as adding end caps to the gutter guards to keep out birds and squirrels), responding to address minor issues that arose, etc. I won't go into all these details. The point is that I am a cared for customer whose needs are continually addressed and in an ongoing, relationship-based way. And not nickel and dimed. This is so unusual in this day and age. I just got the water heater fixed. Now the roof has issues. And since I live in California I'd have to schedule everything thousands of miles away and hope for the best. Unlike the water heater, I don't have a trusted roofer. In fact, I've never had a problem with my roof. So this was going to be a completely new experience for me. By the time I got the message it was already 6pm est. so I figured I'd just leave emails and phone messages and hope someone would call me back the next day. Yelp doesn't seem to have too many highly reviewed roofers in Raleigh, so I just called and emailed the top few that I saw. I did get the answering machine on every call except for Olde Raleigh Roofing. Daniel the owner answered even though it was after hours and he was very nice on the phone. He explained what might be the issue and said he'll contact my tenant directly and send some guys over. Once they were over there they would take pictures and email them to me with a price quote. If approved they would start work immediately. I thought great let's do it. I also wanted to get some other quotes and compare them, since I've never had a roof issue, but only 1 guy called me back (one of the larger roofers) and that was 4 days later. And even that guy didn't follow up with my tenant. Long story short, Daniels guys came out, took pictures, Daniel emailed me the pictures and gave me a quote. It sounded fair and came with a warranty, so I approved the work. After the work was finished Daniel sent me another set of pictures of the completed work and emailed me the invoice and warranty for me to sign and send back to him. The roof looked great in the pictures and my tenant was happy. It's already been a few months and no more leaks. I'm very happy. Overall the experience was great. There were some communication problems early on, which may have been due to the long distance and/or tenant. But in the end, everything was great and I'm really happy to now have a trusted roofer on my services list.

However,…read morefrom pt of initial contact on 11/29/22 to 2/14/23, 78 days- I still had to meet my point guy, the one with whom I was communicating. He kept sending other workers and never came by to meet me in person, after I had requested so several times. He never even provided me with any kind of brochure so that I know how they operate and what materials they use- never signed a contract either. In fact, I had to call in my initial claim and reach out to him when he was not responding to requests from my insurance adjuster. In addition, initial pictures for my claim were taken after dusk, when streetlights were on... of course, they had to be redone. CJ Deans was also used and recommended by other neighbors so when James popped by my door on 2/6 with a brochure, I was willing to listen. I reached out once more to my initial roofer who said that he will come by the following weekend. Weekend passed without any communication, so I reached out to James on 2/14 to finalize my claim. My husband and I met with James on 2/18 where he outlined their plan, showed us samples and had us sign a contract. James was able to pick up where the prior roofer left off and 33 days later, my roof was completely replaced. To be fair, days spent before CJ from submission of claim to communication with my insurance was 15 days and should be included for a total of 48 days. What a relief... done! I must add that CJ Deans actually calls in your claim and then they maintain contact with your insurance. There is no need for the homeowner to be the middle man. James was also very, very responsive and always kept me in the loop. Their roofing team used ropes for safety and used pulleys to get the materials up onto my high roof. After installation, the workers cleaned up and used magnets to pick up nails around the yard. I understand that accidents happen, especially on windy days and being high on a roof puts safety first. So my only suggestion is that the workers cover any major areas that may be damaged by falling materials. There was a minor incident which was resolved to my satisfaction. Note also that you will need to cover your landscaping before roof replacement. I had tulip bulbs which had already popped out so I had to cover them with stakes and sheeting. Overall, my husband and I are pleased with James Patterson of CJ Deans and would highly recommend them.

My main complaint, the sales person promised the crews would be clean and put tarps down to catch 100% of the debris, and we wouldn't even be able to tell they'd been here. Now we're four months past the install and we are still picking up bits of shingle, tar paper, plastic, and most egregiously, ROOFING NAILS in the yard nearly every SINGLE time we do yard work. In the first two weeks we picked up over a hundred nails from the yard and DRIVEWAY (come on, now!). We seriously found two more yesterday and two more today. It's NEVER ENDING. With the sales guy's suggestion we had them put in wide mouth gutter drains to help with the constant gutter clogging problems -- so what do they do? First they installed them wrong (oversized drains with standard drain holes does no good), so I printed out and handed the project manager installation instructions from the manufacturer. They came back out to redo it, but contrary to those instructions they used a ton of caulk, and also put caulk on every joint. Guess what gutter debris does when it hits a caulk. We also had them do some siding repair and had to be extremely specific about what we wanted them to do vs asking "replace anything that's rotting" which I would expect to be a reasonable request. I expected SO much more from a family company this old and established. Sadly, NOT recommended.

I called Roofwerks several months ago for two things:…read more [#1] I had a specific leak in my roof that turned out to be coming in through a broken spot under an attic window. [#2] I wanted to get a quote for re-painting my metal roof with a sealant. I paid that invoice, and called again several weeks ago for two more things: [#3] We had a leak in a corner under our roofline where two gutterlines meet. The insurance appraiser suspected it was due to a gap under the roofline that rain was blowing through during hard wind. I was hoping they would install some sort of flashing or protection over that gap, which would probably require gutter removal to reach. [#2 again] Since I hadn't received an estimate after the first job, I followed up about that. The people who came out (5/25/2022) did not fix the gap under the gutter corner, though I don't know why: it has since been fixed by another provider. Instead, they applied a single stripe of sealant down a roof line where there was no evidence of leakage. They also said they would provide an estimate for tightening screws and re-painting the roof for maintenance. This already felt like redundant work, since that's what they had supposedly done the first time, so I really didn't expect the expensive invoice that followed: $840+tax. I responded asking for clarification of the charges. (They quoted $168 per hour, and two men were there for 1.5 hours. That puts the paint used at $336.) I didn't hear back, so I follow up two days later, to which I received a reply that she was working on it. Two more weeks later, I followed up again, and was promised a prompt response. On Tuesday June 21, I got an email that the invoice had been dropped to $625+tax... still a flat price with no breakdown of hours and materials. Again, I asked for clarification of the costs, but at this point also decided to write this complaint. I ALSO PAID THE INVOICE. (I clarify this because I'm not doing this to justify stiffing them. I can afford $678, but I can't afford to spend any more time or patience waiting for an explanation or follow-through. My time is better spent making a BBB complaint and sharing my experience here.) So, to summarize: - They charged for duplicate work, since they were supposed to have provided an estimate after coming to address the first leak but never did. - They painted a single stripe down the seam of those roof lines and then tried to charge $336 (later $121) for the paint. - There was no evidence of leakage there. The actual leak was later repaired by another provider in the original spot that I pointed out but that they didn't repair. - It took two of their people 1.5 hours to look around the roof of a 1020sqft house (again, for what, I don't know, since they had already been out to estimate this before) and paint a white stripe that didn't need to be painted. - They still haven't provided an estimate that I think I've paid for twice now.
