Cute little bakery. We were in the area and wanted a king cake. The girl at the front was very friendly and described what was in the cakes we asked about. We opted for the Turtle Cream Cheese King Cake. It looked delicious and tastes amazing. The cream cheese is a little soft - almost more like a butter cream - not very dense at all. She also mentioned they sell king cake all year round - should I take away a star for that??!! lol Jk. They do also offer a bunch of different desserts and pastries. There king cake is the best in my book because I don't care for all the sugar. That other places put on there king cakes and I know the sugar is in Mardi Gras colors but it's way too much for me and they make it the way you want all you have to do is call the day before you need it then you have a fresh king cake not days old king cake read more

Okay so I really am not a big dessert or cake person but I cheat once a year (well one season a year) for one thing - King cake. My husband brought me a box of plain King Cake from here when he went to Houma and I LOVED IT. Their king cake was not like a typical one with cinnamon inside. It was more like airy, fluffy plain sweet french bread with black and gold sugar icing. It was so simple and delicate yet that is what made it so special. It was very light and biting on it was like eating cotton candy or cloud if that makes sense. Because it was not heavy at all, I did not have a guilty pleasure so bad afterwards ;) Next time he goes to Houma again, I know what to ask him to bring - King Cake from Best Bakery. These people need to broaden their horizons with a visit to Houma...home of the greatest French bread on this planet!!! The loaves are always fresh and usually hot from the oven! Best Bakery also provides amazing pastries. These include shoe sole, a crispy thin pastry the size of a large shoe (I posted a photo to help.) These wafer thin cookies are coated in cinnamon and sugar. Chix de femme ["chik-DAY-fom"] are yellow cinnamon rolls with a gooey clear glaze. Omg deslish!! People come from miles around to get them. They were a staple of reporters covering Hurricane Katrina. There is always an assortment of cookies, fritters, macaroons, turnovers, miniature pies, and other chef creations. Best Bskery makes some of the greatest king cake you willl ever try. Yes, Nola snobs, FAR BETTER than Gambino's, Randazzo's and McKenzie's put together!! They are that good. I'm fortunate to have this place so close to me. I can be there and back in 15 minutes. We have gone here all my life. While the French breads have definitely shrank over the years, they're still good and the price hasn't gotten outrageous. There is a good assortment of sweets available in the case. The fudged-filled cookies are excellent, but the real winners here are the shoe soles, and chix de femme. Top tier baked treats. I wish I could say the same for the king cakes, but they just aren't great, in my opinion. The texture is more like a bread dough, and there doesn't seem to be any cinnamon at all. I don't know the people that work there, but it's usually a good experience. Sometimes there will be somebody at the counter that has a bit of an attitude and damn near throws your order at you instead of handing it to you. Pro tip - When going for chix de femme, the more orange they are, the better they are. When they are more pale and yellow, they're not as good. read more

My husband introduced me to Best Bakery and it is by far the best King Cake I have had.
