A nice archeological site that's a nice stop if you're in the area or you're interested in ancient Arizona cultures. It's affordable and consists of a small museum with pottery and other artifacts, outdoor ruins from an old Salado pueblo (self-guided), and a small gift shop. There is a film you can watch at the beginning of your visit to better understand the site. Decent-size parking lot, and it's unlikely you'll be sharing the site with too many other visitors. It was fairly empty when we went on a Saturday afternoon. I like how they incorporated cacti and other elements of Arizona landscapes into the ruins. A lot of the ruins aren't accessible and can only be viewed from behind metal fencing. I fully understand wanting visitors off the ruins but wish the site had adopted more aesthetically-pleasing solutions than metal wire fencing. read more

Really enjoyed this park. There is an impressive museum stocked only from artifacts found at this or nearby sites. Many beautiful pots, tools, baskets and displays. The ruins are well marked, excavated and rebuilt and there are a couple of nice, shaded picnic tables. Be sure and stop here when you are in Globe, it is only a few minutes drive off of the main highway east of town. read more

My Dad, Greg Sr. Andrade Used To Work In This Area, Years Ago. He Was Well Known For His Hard Work, He Was A Worker For Sure. He Always Made Sure These Grounds Were Spotless And Everything Was Up To His Standards. That Was Dad. I've Been At This Location A Few Times, I Used To Live Up In Those Neck Of The Woods. That means you'll have room to spread out and take the opportunity to explore a reconstructed 700-year old pueblo of the Salado culture (AD 1150-1450) by climbing ladders and peering into rooms decorated with items typical of the time. A small museum that is well-stocked with pottery and other items will help with your understanding of Salado people. This is a great place for kids because Besh-Ba-Gowah doesn't overwhelm the visitor. This is a cool little place to go exploring in Globe. Its off of the 70 and down, up, left, right, around, zig zag, then your there. Haha honestly its not that hard to find just GPS or follow the signs it will take you up a hill where theres a park, its on the left after the park. It's some ruins of homes its well maintained. Apparently your only suppose to go exploring during certain times and we missed it and we entered through a side entrance and didn't know that it was close but until the end, oh well. Still it a cool place to checkout if you passing through, visiting, or need a break. I'd recommend coming during the hours of operation though because it's what your suppose to do and you can learn more from the museum. I thinks its awesome. read more

I found this place on Yelp! I wanted check out and learned about the history of Besh-Ba-Gowah. The park is recreated of masonry pueblo, it gave an idea on how the Salado ancient people lived. It was neat to walk around the ruins and able to touch and go inside on a standing pueblo. Next the the park is the Entho Botanical Garden. There is gate to enter garden and a white bench to sit. There is not a lot to see but desert plants, there is a short trail that would take you down the hill to an extended garden. A nice discovery when visiting Globe! read more

Given that admission is only $5 per person, I definitely recommend this for a 30-minute roadside stop if you're in the area. The 12-minute video about the history of the region was interesting to me. I learned a lot about Arizona that I didn't previously know. It was cool to see some of the ancient pottery that was hundreds of years old. The walk around the recreated area can be done in 10 minutes. Anywho, hardly a must-visit spot, but nice if you're in the middle of a long drive and want to get out of the car for a bit, especially given it's affordable price. It felt nice to financially support something that preserves history. read more

Lately, you hear about fake news, but this is essentially a fake attraction with a high price tag to enter. Well, it's $5 each adult for entry, but there really should be no charge to witness a re-creation of ruins. Nothing has changed or moved in decades here, so where is the money going? The film they show seems to have aired first in 1980 and many of the gift shop employees seem ready for the graveyard as well. I did find my favorite prickly pear candy and they have a cute house dog, but personally I would rather see real Indian ruins (and there are many) as opposed to someone building a tourist attraction. They should have used LEGO blocks and then I would be willing to pay for that idea. read more

if you're already in GLOBE and looking for something to do, i would recommend stopping by and checking out the BESH-BA-GOWAH ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK. we went last friday. only a few days into spring, the daytime temperatures were still cool enough to be comfortable. WYATT and JULIANNA had a great time exploring the small museum (pottery, arrowheads, dioramas) and reconstructed 700 year old SALADO pueblo. the kids had great fun scurrying up and down the climbing ladders and poking around the pre-COLUMBIAN ruin. read more

We stopped by here on the way to our cabin up north to take a look around and let the dogs out for a bit. It is a very interesting place with very friendly staff and a nice gift shop. You start off by watching a short film that explains the history of the ruins and then you are free to wander the museum and the outside grounds. They are dog friendly and they allow the dogs to walk the ruins with us as well as accompany us inside to watch the film and go through the museum. Some very interesting artifacts and it's great to hear the history of this part of our state. read more

Saw this was a must see in the area. The story told in the video was interesting but the ruins were a bit cheesy. Poorly reconstructed and in dire need of clean up. I guess with enough imagination I could see people living like this. There are better more realistic ruins in Arizona to visit. ALL I can say is been there done that. read more

Besh-Ba-Gowah is quite an interesting thing. It's 700-year-old ruins that allows you to climb ladders (at your own risk) and walk where the pre-Columbian Salado people stepped and lived. You can't do that at Montezuma's Castle or Tuzigoot. The museum has a nice small town appeal. The nice elderly lady you see about admission ($4 adults) immediately goes, "I've got a 15 minute video about Besh-Ba-Gowah. Wanna see it?" and takes you into her amphitheater which is a flat screen over a fireplace surrounded by folding chairs. In the museum, the local copper mine has rocks of copper ore you can have for free and you can look at all of the artifacts while also making a rubbing of some native art. The ruins themselves are pretty fascinating with no one outside telling you how you're supposed to appreciate what remains of this civilization. You just explore it at your own pace. read more

Definate high light of our week in globe. The ruins have been restored somewhat so some rooms show daily life dioramas and some you can climn around in, which is cool. It's enough to fantasize about living there. There's also a side exhibit called something like the enthno botanical exhibit, where you can grind your own corn in the traditional way which I loved. I am glad that there's a seperate yelp page for the museum portion of this experience because, other than the gift shop which I found interesting wasn't worth the time. read more

Amazing museum. I can't believe these dwellings still exist. There's also an indoor museum once you pay the entrance fee, you can enjoy both the outdoor and indoor museums. A few hours from Phoenix, but it's definitely worth the trip. I am rather found of Native American culture; I read a lot about the different material and non-material cultural aspects of most North American tribes so I would say I have a good understanding of their symbolic way of life. Since I live in Phoenix I am confronted with a lot of history about the people who lived here in centuries past. I like to think that the Apaches (and I use this term very loosely) are one of the most fascinating peoples I have encountered. Its a real treat to have a place such as this to help understand their way of life. Although the site has since been rebuilt its still fun to wonder the ruins and think about "what if." I am hopeful that this place will be here for generations to come but there seems to be a lot of controversy around the site. There is encroachment on all sides so I would encourage you to visit this place before its too late. The visitor center has a great history of the peoples that lived here, the site itself, and a the general area of Globe. Don't forget to take a stroll through the garden. read more

This place is remarkable. The hubby had planned an Easter weekend getaway and it involved seeing these ruins while in Globe. I had been an archeology major in college so this absolutely thrilled me! They start you out with a very in formative video about the Salado people who inhabited the ancient city. You then go out and walk about the ruins with a map and the information from the video. You can imagine the vibrant city that was inhabited and how their communal lives were. There is a huge ruin there and to think that only a part of it has been excavated it is remarkable to think of what there is yet to be discovered. It was a fantastic and informative self-tour which I would recommend to anyone who is visiting the Globe area. It is worth it. read more

Nice and interesting historical/archaeological site. Signage getting there is quite confusing, but that's not their fault.

Besh-Ba-Gowah. Sounds like a great name for some metal band or some ancient monster for a horror movie doesn't it? There's a reconstructed pueblo you can walk around in and that makes it pretty cool because you get to sort of experience being there unlike say Montezuma Castle where you need to use a telescope to imagine yourself actually being there. There's also a museum exhibit where you pay the entrance fee - five bucks per adult unless you meet certain other requirements to pay less. They also have a 15 minute video that those of you without attention deficit disorders can probably sit through without fidgeting. I wanted a large popcorn and a drink but there was no concession stand. Anyway, we spent most of our time walking around outside - you can go in some of the rooms. Definitely a must if you visit Globe and have some time to spare. You probably won't spend more than an hour to do the whole tour - film, museum and pueblo. Lots of parking available. The importance of ancient Indian culture can not be emphasized enough! Staff were friendly and informative. The gift shop was stuffed with great books on regional & AZ history, archeology, Native America and general to do information. Plus great arts & craft items all at a very reasonable $$. This park has the remains of stone houses that the Salado people lived in some 700 years ago. Plus, some recreated rooms to replicate what they would've been like. I thought it was really interesting to see the types of pottery and tools they used back in the day. Admission is $3. A good place to take kids! read more
