The bartenders here, particularly on a weekend are particularly good at letting people leave extremely intoxicated to the point where they can't even get into their own apartment without the help of their teenage daughter. Bert's has been around in its current location since 1954, longer than any business on Bothell-Everett Highway. It is a decent place with a good mix of locals, regulars, and passers by. A full bar, darts, pool table, outdoor seating, horseshoes, karaoke, affordable prices, and iconic appearance are among the many assets, along with good times and fun atmosphere. This is the first negative review I've ever posted and I've been here before. We love a good dive bar, I was excited to come in because I usually enjoy this place. We popped in after dinner tonight expecting the usual fun atmosphere. Instead of being welcomed to this neighborhood bar I was greeted with hostility from the bar staff and the "regulars". This is the place my mom and all her friends would go to to grab a drink and hang out 30 years ago...seems crazy that this dive is still around. It's not a place to go to dance, or get dressed up, or go with too big of a group....but it IS the place to go if you want stiff drinks, hang outside, and shoot the it. 3 or 4 drinks in that place is like 6 or 8 somewhere else....so you have to be careful. They have a pool table, horse shoes, a nice area to hang out outside, a juke box for music (just hope someone didn't load it up with music that sucks), they have trivia nights, pool tournaments, etc. If it wasn't for the nostalgia, and the fact it's within walking distance of my girlfriend's place....I wouldn't necessarily make it a destination as far as bars. But if you're in the neighborhood....drop in and have a drink out on the patio! read more

Ok let's get this straight people it's a Dive Bar. Does exactly what it says on the tin, serves beer and spirits in good measures (can't understand why some people complain the measures are heavy, why would you want less) I have been a regular at Bert's for 10 years so I think I have a handle on the place by now. Clientele is divided by day and night. Night time it's a gamble you never know what crowd will turn up could be fun could be quiet but I have never seen trouble so it's pretty safe. The afternoon mob are done if the nicest people you could meet. You will always find someone to talk to or just sit at the bar and chill. I have met fighter pilots, aerospace designers, plumbers electricians and so on it's the full extreme but everyone is an experience to talk to. The bar staff will know your drink and name after two orders service is attentive and quick. Plenty of TVs games and Seahawks games are a must fir atmosphere and fun. I used to love this bar, and so did all my friends and family. Last Friday 2 p.m ,was shocked at the attitude we received from bartender on my boyfriend's birthday. I have a legal service dog for my disability and was told I would not be served,or the rest of the party. I explained, and showed my legal certification, which he then stated..."Don't give a S##t,read the sign". ..We have the right to refuse service to ANYONE.."So bye"! This is an awesome hangout in Bothell! I was visiting some friends who live nearby and this bar is walking distance. We all came around 10pm and it was fairly busy but just the right amount. We got a big booth by the pool tables and other games. Super fun little place. The food looked good. The drinks were great. Best prices in town! I was able to get a big pitcher for $8!!! You best believe we bought a lot of pitchers that night! The bartender was really nice and fast! My favorite part is the outdoor patio. They have really cute lighting out there with plenty of seating. We hungout mostly out there. It is an awesome little hidden gem and I would absolutely be back when I am in the area! read more

The owner needs to take good hard look at this place. If I could give negative stars I would. This place is an absolute disgusting mess. It's a place where you can get the drugs you want when you want. A girlfriend of mine have gone in a few time but last time we went in I was so close to making a sexual harassment police report, the big tall very unattractive bartender was very distasteful hit on me and made very inappropriate comments to me multiple times. I asked for the manager, he stated he was the manager and refused to give me a name to a higher up, and proceeded to tell me if I didn't like the way he was speaking or treating me I can take my snobby ass out the door, laughing while doing so no to mention taking shots with his customers. Dudes...this is *not* a dive. This is "neighborhood watering hole". Let's just get that straight right now. Really... The details: strong pour, daily specials/fun things, microwave popcorn in big buckets on the bar, and a huge age gap between regulars. Like 50+ and 35- , nice and helpful staff, darts, etc. But it's the experience as a whole that makes a place, right? So here's mine. Sitting enjoying time with a good friend, Michael, catching up and fighting both the monsoon weather and my crackhead phone to catch up w/ Betsy and Bert (not his bar, btw ;) ) As we're talking, 50+ old guy from bar comes walking over, and winks at me from behind Michael. uhm, ok. Then proceeds to set his drink on our little bar table, lean in on his elbows and say: "So are we talking marriage yet?" (my thought bubble, uh, w?) "No, why would we be doing that?" grasps my hand into both of his, looks in my eyes and says: "Love is in the air, can't you feel it?" (uh...wtf is he crazy?) "I've been watching you two, and the sexual electricity between you two is palpable" (Double thought bubble: OMG he means US??? michael and i?) hahahaha, uh..no we're just good friends. No, really we're just friends. Guy proceeds to introduce himself as owner of the bar, his 'talent' for reading people, pushes a bit more to get us to admit our love, and "sexual electricity", then finally, "Well, if you two change your mind, I am the owner, so I have the keys to the upstairs room. *wink*" So, apparently, my "having a great relaxed time catching up with an old good friend" face and body language is the same as "madly in love" on other people. That sure explains a lot of misconceptions and assumptions I've encountered before. Blue and Dave the bartenders are forever animated, and endlessly entertaining. (You can tell by all the attention they receive.) I liked this place a lot until i got cut off from drinks after 2 drinks and i was told i couldn't enter the pool tournaments anymore because i played a defensive shot. If they didn't pour heavy drinks this place would get 1 star. I have been singled out before for no reason and i dont appreciate it. This is one of those times. The food is mediocre and if you are not a regular and its busy, the bartenders won't pay you much attention. They allow the regulars there to get wasted and be asshole to people and do not cut them off. There is one pool table there and there is no room to shoot on the sides. On countless occasions i have been forced to sit at a table that wasn't clean. The mens bathroom toilet doesn't have a door on it so anyone in the bathroom can see in and when the bathroom door is open, half the bar can see in. The bar is located on a highway where cops sit and wait for you to come out at. I suggest this place if you like to be outdoors and dont mind heavy drinks. This is a longer review, bear with me, while verbose it does a good job describing the atmosphere of Bert's and what to expect for new patrons. My mom just moved in down the street from Bert's, and after doing yard work for her yesterday, she asked if I wanted to go down and grab a happy hour drink with her at a bar called Bert's near her house before I headed home. She had never been there, but we rolled up and found parking easily at 4:40. I knew it was 4:40 because a great big sign that read "happy hour 3-5" was strung across their outside deck, and my mom and I both looked at our watches and thought, "just in time for a quick happy hour drink!" We walked inside, and we were assailed by cigarette smoke. The porch door was open, allowing people's smoke to blow directly into the main room. There were several patrons at the bar with cigarette's in their mouths, and our first question was, "wait - is there SMOKING in here?" That was the first red flag, and honestly we should have just left. But the call of happy hour drinks are strong, so we found an open table in the back away from the smoke. A young employee greeted us. For identification purposes (for the management) he had gauge'd ear piercings and facial hair. He asked us what we would like to drink and my mom replied she had just moved in down the street, and wanted to come for happy hour to try the place out. He replied, "Oh, I'm sorry, Happy Hour is over!" My mom and I both looked at each other, and my mom asked, "Is it 5 already?" "No, but we go off of bar time, just like all the other bars. Sorry!" He said. My mom even pulled out her phone to show him that it was 4:42, but he insisted happy hour was over according to "bar time." I wasn't aware "bar time" extended to happy hour, as every bar I've worked at takes it to mean we stop serving drinks early before close, not we stop serving happy hour early before it's over. As a longtime bar and restaurant employee, this really ticked me off. Again, we should have left, or put up more of a fuss, but now we were already sitting down and thought, "we might as well have a drink." I ordered a Manny's and my mom ordered a vodka martini, shaken so that there were "ice crystals," with a lemon twist. When we got our drinks, my Manny's was fine and my mom's martini was strong! (I guess that's a positive.) But there was no twist, just a big slice of lemon sitting in the bottom of the glass. At this point, I kind of figured to myself we must be dealing with the bar back, as A.) no bartender I know would cutoff two new clients from happy hour twenty minutes early, especially ones that lived so close and could bring return business, and B.) a lemon twist is not a lemon slice, and by the amount of liquor they had on their shelves, I would assume they knew how to make a drink as simple as a vodka martini up with a twist. So I forgave this young man, as he was probably still in training and had no idea what he was doing. I thought about mentioning it, but the atmosphere of Bert's and the young man's demeanor told me it would be a lost cause. He quoted us a price of 10 dollars, only to return a few seconds later, "actually, it's 12 dollars." We paid for our (very expensive) beer and martini, and my mom gave him a $3 tip, and then we left when our drinks were done, both vowing under our breath not to return. The atmosphere of Bert's is one of a neighborhood dive bar. Pull tabs, blue collar customers, darts, the associated dive-bar-red-neck video games, etc. There are some military hats on the beer cooler, so I assume someone in management is ex-military or military friendly. My mom and I will probably not go back to Bert's. There are plenty of other places along the Bothell-highway corridor where I'm sure the service is friendlier, the drinks cheaper, and we don't leave feeling like we'd been taken advantaged of. read more

Went in to check this place out a few days ago. I needed a calm your nerves drink before recording a podcast. Real friendly, and you could tell everyone was having a good time. Especially that one dude... I have a friend, well not really a friend, more like an acquaintance. This guy is always in some sort of trouble, never has a drivers license but is always driving a beater anyway. The kind of dude that will bend over backwards to help you out but you're kind of worried he's also casing the joint while he's helping. Anyways, this guy asked me if I'd help him get some stuff out of his storage unit. He's behind on payments and doesn't want it auctioned off. "Bring your truck and we'll be done in a jiffy" ( this is back when I had a truck so probably early 2000s ) I swing over to the dive he's living in to pick him up. He's talking my ear off about some ridiculous Jerry Springer show type behavior and the sudden realization hits me... am I assisting in some sort of criminal offense? Are we on our way to rob a storage unit? I'm honestly scared, my heart is racing, I'm calculating my exit strategy if this looks to sketchy. Trying to keep my cool, I start tiptoeing around what he's going to do with the stuff we're saving from auction. He claims he has a better spot at "his old lady's moms place" I can't make this shit up! As we pull into the storage place I noticed all the cameras, oh man, I'm about to be on the worlds dumbest criminals. The dude tells me the code for the gate, from memory, okay I am feeling slightly better. We drive down the main aisle, take a left, and halfway down this row is his door. Well the door that opens the hall that has about 6 doors in it. The first key doesn't work. Beads of sweat form on my temples. The second key he tries doesn't even fit the padlock. Christ almighty I'm stressed. He pops in the third key, click. The lock opens. He reaches into his back pocket and grabs a small flashlight. He opens up the door and shines the light around the closet, relief floods my body. There's absolutely no way this shit belongs to anybody else but the guy I'm with! We cleared what he felt was important and didn't bother to lock up the rest. So like I was saying, everyone was feeling good, especially that dude in the corner that totally reminded me of my derelict buddy. The nerves were calmed and I recorded a great episode of the GoodTalkJosh podcast! read more

Bert's is awesome and anyone who disagrees should be slapped. The pour killer stiff drinks, the bartenders are all great, and the regulars are REALLY entertaining. They have an awesome horseshoe pit, and one of the best outdoor smoking/patio areas around, with plenty of propane heaters for the cold days. The owner, Bruce, is usually at the bar hanging out and he is really friendly. If he notices someone he hasn't seen before, he will typically come over to introduce himself and make sure you are having a good time. My personal favorite thing about Bert's is that you can bring dogs in anytime other than Friday/Saturday nights after 7pm (They are worried about dogs getting stepped on when it gets crowded). They fenced in horseshoe pit area below the patio is a great place to let the dogs play while the owners get to enjoy a stiff drink. My friends all refer to it as drinking on a budget when we come to Bert's because if you spend more than $25 bucks a person, you're probably hammered. read more

This is a dive bar in the truest sense. It's not particularly clean, it's got regulars at noon on a Wednesday, and the bathroom door barley closes, but it's got character. Berts is a fine place to go and get drinks and in the summer time the horseshoe pit out back is fun. I will say they don't have the heavy hand anymore that they used to be famous for, but that could be a good thing depending on if you ask me while I'm there on a weekend night or the next morning. The kitchen is still a fairly new addition and I don't go here very often so I've only eaten here once. Their menu is exactly what you expect a bar menu to be...exactly. I had the nachos and they were good. Better nachos than I've had at some Mexican restaurants. Some reviews mention the crowd and I've never had any problems. Throw alcohol at people and there is bound to be an issue at some point no matter where you're at. It's a working class crowd, but people are usually chill and friendly. Oh and they won't tow your car contrary to what another reviewer said. I drive by here on my way to work at 4 am and see plenty of cars still parked there. My wife left her car overnight one time and it was fine. They do no advocate drunk driving and even have a van and offer rides home within a certain distance. read more

Ah the local bar.. how fun. Lots of shady people I see here, and some that are descent. I've been in a few times. The drinks are cheap and stiff - some of the people seem pretty sketchy and seedy. It seems like a lot of working class people, which is fine - but you may find trouble if you're not street smart. I happen to live just down the road; and historically this bar tends to attract troublemakers - for some reason every few months some idiot here is lighting off fireworks late at night or in the parking lot next to the bar. And then the police show up. On top of that usually the music is blasting late into the night hours - and the bros and hoes are out partying on the outdoor patio. The stiff drinks are flowing.. the music is blasting.. the mullet guy is dancing.. the unibrow woman is hitting on the trucker guy.. yes.. all kinds of craziness going on here. So all this is pretty cool until you see the guy in the corner of the patio peeing. Gross dude... way uncool! As fun as all this is when you're drinking - the neighbors don't seem too happy about loud music late at night or some moron lighting fireworks and blowing their ears out. It seems they may need to be more accountable to their customers actions here. Security cameras or better bouncers - or both might be a good idea to keep the troublemakers out. read more

An update. I've come here about 5 times since my last review. A fight almost broke out because some ghetto guy with facial tattoos was super drunk and being disrespectful to a woman to the point where the whole bar could hear. I had two bartenders try and make me drinks with whipped cream vodka which I hate, one succeeded even though I tried saying no. I attempted to pawn it off to strangers that probably thought I was going to drug them. Most recently I came last Friday night with a temp ID, my birth certificate, and my work badge. The guy wouldn't let me in. I understand policies but this was seriously annoying. I called another bar down the road and they said it would be cool, so I went there. I keep trying to love Bert's, but each time frustrates me more and more. read more

I recently visited my brother up in Mill Creek for a "Sunday Funday." The plan was to hangout and grab some food and drinks. Since neither of us had a preference as to where to get our grub and drink on, I suggested we head over to Bert's Tavern to grab a drink since I had heard good things about it. I'm very glad that we did! We sat in the bar and were served some strong rum and cokes and some 24 oz. budlights. I believe we were able to pay for all of these drinks for about 15 dollars....excellent value! We were starting to get hungry and the bartender recommended that we check out their 2 dollar burger special and that there was a guy outside on the patio grilling the burgers. The burgers were delicious and everyone there was friendly and having a good time. I'm looking forward to coming back to this place! read more

This place is under new management recently, but I wasn't there for the old management so I can't personally do any comparisons. I can tell you that it's a lively "divey" bar that happens to be a lot of fun. They've got a bunch of horseshoe pits out back on the porch, and since it's closed in you can take your drink with you. Perfect for those nicer days we'll hopefully have this summer! I believe there's a bar out in the back as well but I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone operating it.
