We chose the Gwynfryn Guest House because…read moreof its central location inside the city walls, good reviews, an amazing chapel breakfast area, and overall affordability.... I'm happy to say we had no regrets! A couple things I'd highlight: -We met one of the owners (Colin, I believe) and he was super welcoming and suggested a great local restaurant around the corner called Watsons Bistro. -The rooms are very tasteful and the beds are comfortable. -The breakfast was tasty and the service was great. -The chapel is really very beautiful/special/fantastic/all the adjectives. -We parked right outside the walls for a cheap price. It was only a few minutes walk. No big deal. Conwy and Snowdonia were our favorite places to visit on our Wales trip, and the Gwynfryn Guest House definitely contributed to that! We would happily go back.

As of last Sunday 5/20/2017~ish, the new kitchen and breakfast room has been relocated to the old church chapel - it's awesome! So, the room I stayed in was in the "vestry" and was superb! All brand new, clean and cozy - the room was perfect! The ensuite bathroom was very nice (only needed some hand soap.) During my recent trip, I stayed twice, but a week apart...kinda coming and going. Both visits were stellar. Colin was extremely cool and accommodating (only met Monica briefly - she was quite friendly). I'm not sure how soon I'll be back, but I will only stay at Gwynfryn during my next visit to Conwy - it was PERFECT! 5 stars...so SOLID!

Mark was especially helpful giving us hiking tips and general info. Our room was on the top floor, number 6, facing the river - what a great view! Everything was quite clean, nicely furnished and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast the first morning was okay, but as we were finishing, I heard another guest raving about the "avocado toast" he had yesterday. Hmm...we weren't advised about this dish. The next morning, I asked, "Do you have avocado toast?" Sweet Emily replied, "Oh yes, I always forget about the specials - let me check." As it turned out, the avocado toast was one of the BEST dishes I had during my two week travels in Wales & the UK (I know you're thinking..."Wales & UK?") Ask a Welshman. In all, our stay was excellent and if Paul McCartney stays at Plas Tan y Graig, then it's good enough for me - see photo in dining room on fireplace mantle. Thanks for the hospitality Annette, Mark and Emily!

It has a large, beautifully maintained garden with views of Ludlow Castle and a local church. The garden abuts several green fields, in one of which cows graze. There is a small wooden table and chairs at which it is very pleasant to sit and relax and admire the wonderful view. My friends and I were served morning coffee there. It's all delightfully bucolic. The house itself is a large detached building, circa 1930. There are three spacious bedrooms. I stayed in The Lawrence, which is basically a suite of rooms - a bedroom, a bathroom and a separate toilet - with its own door. It was extremely comfortable, with all mod cons, eg a television and tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast, which is freshly cooked to order and delicious, is served in a room downstairs. The proprietors are very warm and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Prices are very reasonable - I paid £65 a night for sole occupancy of my suite of rooms. Whitfield House is excellent value for money. It's the best B&B establishment I have stayed at (and I've been to a fair few!). I recommend it unreservedly.

A gravelled drive leads you to the front of the house, which is surrounded by mature trees and we were greeted on arrival by the owner's friendly dog 'Rodney Rocket'! After a very welcome cup of tea and piece of cake, the owner talked us through some of the best places to visit or to eat in the area, like the Ludlow Food Centre and the Jolly Frog restaurant; both of which we tried and were well worthy of their recommendation. Our room, the 'Lawrence Room' was quite sizeable, with a separate toilet and bathroom, with a cavernous bath, and the sun-soaked main room, had a feeling of space and a comfortable king size bed. Of course, not forgetting the amazing views, over into the landscaped tiered garden, the rolling fields beyond and Ludlow Castle in the distance. A decent sized TV and a good selection of tea and coffee too. Breakfast was served in an equally impressive room, with wood panel walls and well spaced tables. A great variety of fruit, cereals and fruit juices to start, and then a great Full English Breakfast, making full use of local produce, one of the nicest I've had for some time; the scrambled eggs were particularly fine! The owners and staff were friendly and helpful, and the walk into the centre of Ludlow was just right, at about 10 minutes. Whitfield House is a such a peaceful and restful place to escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life; waking up to just the sound of the birds in the morning was fantastic.

I got them a walker's package, that included breakfast (the full welsh, was apparently great, but enormous), dinner (not limited in any way, three courses if you wished, just a little extra for side dishes) and a packed lunch with a choice of sandwiches, crisps, a frobishers juice and and enormous hunk of cake. Rooms were comfortable, bathrooms were clean. The only slightly negative point that was made, was that you didn't feel like you wanted to have a nightcap- as although the staff were fantastic, they cleaned down early and "seemed like they wanted to get home" which is certainly fair enough- so if you like a last orders whisky, it may be best for you to pack a bottle and use a glass in the room!
