I took a test drive in a Mini a while back and the service was ok but nothing to write home about. It was an unaccompanied test drive; I was amused at the amount of time inspecting the vehicle afterwards. Given how gently I drive a car and especially carefully when it's not mine after inspecting it to within a millimeter of its life the sales person said "I'm happy with that". Well I'd be surprised if he wasn't happy given that it was presented to me in that state. In the end I decided against a Mini/BMW for a few reasons, pretty low down in ethical consumer magazines list of manufacturers, be it for the BMW groups cobalt mining practices for electric cars, the tanning chemicals used for leather interiors which are dyed in India and were causing fatalities and also a third reason that I can't recall why lower than most other manufacturers in the ethical consumer list. The other reason is the anti-corrosion warranty is only valid until the first service, then the body has to be inspected each time it goes for service which is a cost and inconvenience. Brands such as Lexus, Jaguar, Alfa Romeo, Audi have the confidence to give a twelve-year anti-corrosion warranty not requiring any mandatory body inspections that could lead to expensive unnecessary repairs. read more
