The wines are organized by country and it's nice to see plenty of wines from so many countries. There is a detailed description for each wine, which enhances the buying experience. If you are fortunate to enjoy their Friday night wine tasting event, you can sample 6 different wines (3 whites and 3 reds) for $10. Bernie hosts the tastings and is happy to share his extensive knowledge of the wines. There are a couple of cheese pairings from Grater Goods next store (a fabulous cheese store worthy of its own review). I've enjoyed the wine tasting a few times now and never leave empty handed. The way it works is you pay $10 at the wine shop try two wines and then go next door and have a cheese come back and do two more wines and then walk next door again. This was my first time visiting Bernie's and it was AWESOME. We came for the $5 Friday night wine tasting and it was so easy and so fun. I got to try 6 unique wines that I probably never would have picked out - and they did not disappoint. I plan to bring my friends back next Friday to enjoy! You can stay and browse the very reasonably priced selection, enjoy the wines, pop next door for the cheese pairing - and just live your best life. My friend recently introduced me to the Friday wine tastings at Bernie's Wine Stop. For $5 cash, you get a curated wine tasting of 5 (or more) unique wines. You are greeted by Victoria when you walk in and Bernie conducts the tastings. They are both super nice to talk to and are very knowledgeable about wines from all over the world. Grater Goods (next door) also participates in the Friday wine tastings by offering cheese samples to pair with the wines. If you decide to purchase bottles of wine that you sampled, you get 10% off. They have great newsletters that get sent out to ahead of time to let you know which wines will be included in the tasting. The other people that attend the tastings are friendly. This is a such a great spot! It's conveniently located in Murray Hill and has parking out front. I highly recommend this place. I went on a Food and Wine tasting with "Wine Inspired with Kara. This was one of the stops we made for a pairing. Bernie gave us a wealth of knowledge about different wines. You could tell his brain knows so much-he could go on for days teaching and sharing his knowledge. He had wonderful cheese and wine to share with us. It was so delicious. He also has wine tastings every Friday night for only $5.00. You will get to try about 4-5 different wines. This is exactly what I need, because I never really know what kind of wine that I want. So, instead I just always have a margarita instead! I get tired of margaritas all of the time. So, I can see myself stopping here on a regular basis-when I am in the area. I kind of pictured in my mind Bernie Sanders...he wasnt there, but the other Bernie was equally as memorable. Has been in the wine business for 25+ years and really knows his stuff. He took the time to chat with us about each wine and what goes into making them...he also answered our dumb questions without making us feel dumb. Why it took me so long to stop in, I can't even begin to say- but I am watching for a Friday night wine tasting with a line up I won't be able to resist! Victoria helped me pick just the right wines. I am slowly working my way away from only sweet wines and getting more mid range wines. She asked what I like- I said St Augustine's San Sebastion Vintner's Red and any of Island Groves wines and she picked up a bottle and said- this one. Ummmm- I have never finished a bottle of wine by myself (I get full), but I paced myself last night and enjoyed every delicious sip and yuppers- finished that bottle! She also recommended a second one- so, of course, I bought both. I'll attempt that one later this weekend! I bought Sangue Di Guida- made in Italy & a Robertson Winery, Natural Sweet Red made in South Africa! Seriously tempter to open this second bottle- but I know I won't finish it today.... but I might finish it by tomorrow! Looks like I'll just have to go back and buy more! read more

All the more reason to stop by. This place does offer tastings and has a huge selection of wines. Jake is VERY knowledgeable and willing to share and educate, on the complexity of wines (I need all the help I can get). Most if not all bottle are between a $10-$50 price point. PSA: I am not a wine drinker and I came in here and could have been sold anything and everything that was 'recommended' to me. Bernie - He is such a great guy. He took the time to get an understanding of what my wife drinks and tried to use his best judgement for recommendations. Hell, I don't even know what she drinks... All the bottles look the same and I walked out with two bottles and spent less than $30! They also do wine tasting on Fridays but I'm sure you might have seen that from the other reviews. He told me they do two whites and three reds usually. They offer cheese from next door and ask that you bring $5 to contribute. I THINK he said 530-730. The sweet wine selection is very small. There were a good assortment of different styles of wine, the vast majority I did not recognize which I liked. Bernie chose a wine for me that he felt I would like and that fit my price range--opened it up when I got home and it was pretty good! While ringing me up, Bernie got my name and added it to his system. He explained that he creates files for customers so that they can remember what they've bought and so that he can help with future recommendations which is great. I went to Bernie's yesterday to pick up a few bottles of wine for my birthday. We arrived just before they closed and you never would have known. The owner spent a lot of time with us- he is so knowledgable! We told him what was on the menu for dinner (Giordano's Deep Dish from Chicago) and he picked two wines that paired PERFECTLY. I bought $200 worth of gift cards from Bernie's Wine Shop and $200 worth from the Grater Goods during the peak of Covid because there was an article that said it will help local businesses during this time. I recently tried to use one of the gift certificates written by Bernie himself but the new owner refused to honor the amount and only offered a fraction. The new owner should have honored the full price of the gift card but did not so he basically stole money from me. I finally made it to wine tasting last Friday at Bernie' s wine store and I am so happy that I went. My friend and I got off work late and barely caught the end of the event. It is $5 to taste six wines which was perfect. Even though we showed up 10 minutes before the tasting was over, Bernie did not rush us at all. He had a wealth of knowledge on each bottle of wine that turned into a wonderful lesson on grapes and blends from around the world. This was the best wine tasting that I have been to in Jacksonville. I have been to this shop multiple times and Bernie always has given me fabulous recommendations. I left the store with a couple of Pinot Noirs that I cannot wait to try. What I've found is that even if I find a big brand name wine at a box store for a good price, it doesn't matter enough if I don't have the right wine.
