Horrible service went there asking questions about a standard Bike and they told me that they can't answer any questions. Even though I had pictures of the standard trek bike. it's hard to realize that somebody doesn't know what a 21 speed bike is unless they saw it in person not buy pictures. Maybe they don't know what they're doing over there. I would assume they don't after many years you should know the standard of the bikes and if not, you could definitely look it up, but they did not want to help one bit would not recommend at all. These two guys were horrible with trying to help and did not want to deal with anything that's why I guess the place had no customers in it. Don't go there the attitude suck. read more

And yes, credit cards protect the consumer and offer protection against unethical businesses like yours. If you REALLY care about your employees and want to protect their paychecks, run your business better, be honest with people, treat your customers well, and stop pointing the finger and blaming everyone else for your incompetence. For folks who read your reviews, there are many consistent reviews similar to mine... where there's smoke there is fire. I called at least 10 nearby bike stores as I wanted to buy a brand-name bike for less than $500. It was difficult because most stores do not have much stock due to the pandemic. Bernie did the best as they had a Fuji Captiva 7 that is about $450. I bought that today. They adjusted the seat for me. I also replaced the kickstand of an old bike. Things went very smoothly and I was out in 30 minutes. The two people who were in the store were very helpful and courteous. I am very happy with them and would go back there in future. Thieves, avoid! Bought a used bike for $60 with low expectations. Took it to Bernies and was told it looked fine except needed brakes. Spent over $100 to fix brakes and added some new grips since I trusted the bike was usable. After 3 short rides the gears stopped working. In trying to move the chain manually the rear tire went off kilter. Took it back to the shop and they assured me the tire just needed to be adjusted and that is what was messing up the gears. Since again I was told it was minor, I also bought a new seat. Got the bike home and realized the gears still didn't work. Back to Bernies for a third time. Told this time that the bike has numerous issues and that's what I should expect with a used bike....fair enough, but I would not have dumped $160 into it if they had looked at it appropriately up front and told me about the issues. 100% convinced they either didn't look at it all, or they hid the fact that there were issues to get as much out of me as possible. DISHONEST BUSINESS. BAD EXPERIENCE. Go down the road to Economy Bikes. read more

Bernie's has everything you need in a bicycle shop: * A good range of bikes for sale for people of various needs and wants. * Quality accessories from low to high end * A shop that gets your bike fixed or tuned up fast * A knowledgeable and helpful staff that cares about biking It's located centrally in Hamilton, and even though I'm in Princeton pretty often on weekends, I prefer to shop here just because I've been on the receiving end of what seemed to be elitist bike snobbery when shopping at Kopp's. If you buy a new bike , there should be some sort of warrantee from the manufacturer that would cover an issue with a bike. The work would be done to fix an issue with a bike 3 days old and the shop would go through the manufacturer to recover any parts and labor ?! Jess and I had a really great experience purchasing her Fuji Adventure yesterday. This was our second time coming here and we came back for the test drive. The staff was the same. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Did not pressure you to buy anything. Only wanting to answer your questions and provide information. We test drove the women's version and the men's. Opting for the men's. The price was great considering it was a couple bucks less than online and we can bring it back to Bernie's to have it serviced. Overall, great experience and highly recommend if you are interested in purchasing a bike. read more

Owner is a huge JERK. He freaked out on my when I had bill shock then later in his reply made it seem that I made the scene. NO INTEGRITY. Charged me $150 for two new tires, brakes pads and a tuneup. Obviously I had sticker shock which offended him. I haven't even use the bike yet and it's already got a flat. I was definitely ripped off by this dude. read more

Update: had a slight issue with my daughters bike that I had bought in early June. I recall on the first day I had bought it my daughter complaining about some wire on the brake sticking out on the side. She said it was scratching her leg. I'm not a very mechanical person so long and behold... I put tape on it and i thought the problem was resolved as it no longer scratched her but would still hit her leg a bit. Well this past weekend something happened with the brake that was causing the wheel to lock. I had no idea what as she was complaining it was hard to pedal (mind you she just turned 6) but it was clear something was wrong. I took the bike back to the shop and naturally they knew right away what was wrong - it was something with the brake and the "wire" that was originally scratching my daughter's leg. They showed me how it looked and I said that was how it was day 1 when she had it. Now I honestly don't know if that's how it was when i took it from their store, but I recall her having the issue day 1. For all I know it could have been from one of the times she crashed it on day 1. I got a little sarcasm from the owner/employee there, but that's ok in my opinion as I can see him honestly thinking I was trying to pull a fast one on him... but honestly I was not He even pointed out someone had tinkered with the wire but it was just little 'ole me with the tape back on day 1, but he was right, I did touch it when she complained about it scratching her leg that day. Anyway, the point is he took my word for it though and said he would fix it. I went back to work, came back later in the day, and it was fixed. No charge. I feel bad in a way as that's just the type of person I am. The person put a new part on it and spent their time fixing my daughter's product better. However, at the end of the day, it was the correct thing for them to do and a very good sign of business from the owner/operator. From what I can tell no one on Bernie's Bicycle Center ever reads Yelp as it doesn't look to be a maintained page by them. But, in case they ever do read it, I wanted to say thank you. You all that work there run a very good business and you made a customer for life. When I go to buy my son bike.... and if I ever decide to get off my fat butt and ride one myself instead of writing Yelp reviews all day.... I know exactly where I will go. read more

Unfortunately I'd have to agree with the reviewer who said that the staff are rude. In the midst of this pandemic, obviously bike shops are busy as it is a great activity when you can't do anything else. I call to inquire if a kids bike is in stock since that is what the website tells you to do. The woman who picked up was impatient and hurried me off of the phone. The bike I was inquiring about was not in stock so I said okay I will look at your website to see others. She tells me the website is not up to date. So then I ask her about what other similar bikes she has. She has to ask someone else so gets annoyed. I ask about pricing and again, gets annoyed because she has to ask someone else. After reluctantly getting pricing, she tries to get me off the phone by just saying, "ok? ok?". No desire to have a conversation to get a sale. Unfortunately that left a sour feeling so for now, I will not be shopping at Bernie's. Hopefully you have a better experience and this was just a one-off. EDIT: 6/13/2020. Thank you for your reply. We all have bad days and moments. I understand you were busy; I would have been happy to wait my turn to get your full attention instead of you having to go back and forth between me and your in-person customer. Knowledgeable friendly staff. Let my wife try several bikes and made good suggestion. We did not feel pressured and we are very pleased with the Schwinn Women's NX7. This is premium bike with an internat shifter rather than the conventional chain driven shifters. My wife says it is VERY smooth. They also suggest a hitch mounted platform rack that would be easier for my wife to use than the ones that require a big lift. PS This is in Mercerville. Use Google Maps for directions. read more

We went there looking for a bmx bike for my son on his 12th birthday, we got there at 630 at which time the old bald employee showed us the section with 6 bMX style bikes hanging from the ceiling, we asked to look at the green one which he brought down for us but after that is when the prick became real short with his answer. Went there to buy a se bikes Fast Ripper. Staff was extremely helpful in explaining what is good about the bike. They were right as to this day i absolutley love this bike. Extremely helpful staff. I was unsure whether or not I should get a bicycle or an electric skateboard for my daily trip from my apartment to my college. I was able to try out both at the shop. I was also able to speak to the owner who himself has a great amount of experience with both the boosted board line as well as of course bicycles. Ultimately the boosted board was the better choice for me as I can quickly hop on it and rip around campus and just as easily place it under my desk after riding it to class. It's easy to ride, reliable, and convenient. I could not be happier. read more

I had 3 bicycles of about 25 yrs old that they serviced more than 2 years ago. I am very happy with the work they did. We don't abused the bicycles by riding in the rain or mud or snow. So, services include replacing old parts and oil/grease. All i do is ride, clean, remove dirt/dirty grease from chain, rings, cassette. Maintain it and bicycles will be good and last to ride. Had been riding good with no problem until my wife's bicycle was stolen in broad daylight. Anyway, she had a new one at Bernie, also brought accessories from them too. She was very happy with the new purchase and been riding whenever possible. Purchase and service were both excellent, nothing to replace on their service, they gave you plenty of information and advise and help you to purchase the right stuff. Remember your goal may change after purchase/service, so think ahead and they can suggest something to help you. read more
