The selection also felt somewhat limited, so if you're looking for a wide variety, this might not be your spot. i was in missoula and looking for something healthy and online reviews said to check out Bernice's so I did. Unimpressed with all their pies. Cherry pie had very few cherries in it. The ratio between the oatmeal type topping and the cherries is way off. If I order a cherry pie I want cherries to be the star not the oatmeal topping. Apple pie had a better ratio but taste was nothing special. read more

Customer service and communication when taking orders for wedding cake needs to improve for clarity and accountability. Took order for vegan wedding cake, stated it was "all set." When we called to check on status of order they responded they did not have record of order. NO attempt was made to rectify the order. Very poor customer service. I had such high hopes for this place and it let me down on all levels. I keep seeing this place on all the must try lists, so of course we had to make our own decision. I was so excited to try their food and pastries. The sandwich was not bad, very small but for $4 you get what you pay for. The Arnold Palmer with the fruity black tea was the best thing we had. But the bakery was a huge disappointment. The cookies were rock hard and our day old danish was so dense I couldn't even tear it apart. This bakery is adorable. Due to Covid there is currently only carry out. Which doesn't matter the quality is still amazing. The cookies are good, the cupcakes are amazing and the sandwich's and soups always hit the spot. They had a black bean tortilla soup the other day and it did the cold weather justice! I needed a last minute cake for a birthday celebration. It was a Sunday and everything was closed in Hamilton so I started looking in Missoula and found this bakery. They closed at 4:00 so I started driving, hoping to make it on time. I saw that I may not make it so I called and asked if they'd be there a few minutes past closing, explaining I really needed a cake. They said they'd let me in if I made it there shortly after closing. I pulled in at 4:01 and they were closed. I knocked on the door and they were happy to let me in to choose a cake. Totally friendly and down-to-earth place - we felt very welcomed and the staff were quick and polite. We got two cookies - a pride themed sugar cookie and a peanut butter cookie. Both were delicious - balanced - not too sweet and substantial. We also got pastries which we ended up eating the next day which may have been a mistake - they ended up a bit dry, but that's our mistake and not theirs. I strongly advise anyone wanting a special order cake to call at least 6 months in advance, I was told that pretty much every weekend in May was booked because their bakers and decorators are "overwhelmed." How many people in Missoula are spending 60-90$ on a cake?!?!?! And people want to say the economy is bad! The girls on the phone are super snotty and definitely have a chip on their shoulder. We have always heard of Bernice's as the bakery to check out. We finally stopped in today and overall, the experience was very underwhelming. We purchased a croissant, muffin, and two cupcakes. All four items were dry and had a tight crumb. We only finished the muffin and the other 3 were thrown out. Bernice's does offer local tea, which we enjoyed. The service was meh. Not overly friendly or helpful. The building and atmosphere was cozy, albeit a little cluttered. Some of the furniture was in good need of a dusting. It is a combination bakery restaurant. The restaurant was very busy. The bakery consists of two small display cases with a very limited selection of baked goods. The young girl who waited on me used her bare hands to put my selections in a brown paper bag and copped an attitude when I refused a tip for counter service. My husband and I decided to order a gender reveal cake from Bernice's Bakery to find out the sex of our new baby. While there was initially a lack of transparency surrounding some of the charges for alterations, it was smoothed out by the owner, Missy. I really appreciated that Missy went above and beyond to make sure that not only were we satisfied with the cake itself, but with the price and with the sales experience. Now for the cake... it was BEAUTIFUL! Elegant, but understated--it was exactly what we were looking for. And it wasn't just an aesthetically pleasing cake either, it was delicious! The buttercream icing is divine. We are so thrilled we chose Bernice's Bakery to create such a delicious and beautiful cake to celebrate such a special moment in our lives.
