Went with our friends for Christmas Eve Eve again and this was a top meal of last year for me. Everything was absolutely delicious. The apps and the meals were perfect and my steak was cooked to perfection.

We love the old house vibe and history of the restaurant. The food and service were great. We will definitely be coming back and making this one of our staple go to restaurants in Winston-Salem.

One of my all time favorites in Winston Salem, Bernadin's never disappoints! Truly one of only a few restaurants that i confidently recommend. Cozy grown up night out ambiance, top notch service and amazing food has been my experience every time. Josh is our favorite server....he is warm, friendly, professional and always makes you feel welcome. Save room for dessert, pictured is the cinnamon bread pudding which was divine!

Just added this place to our go-to date night restaurant list! The food was delicious, service was good and the house-turned-restaurant aesthetic was a cute vibe. The food! The complimentary bread rolls were served with what tasted like light airy herb-y butter perfection. We received and ate several baskets. The calamari was the perfect texture and the batter was one of the best cornmeal seafood breadings I've ever tasted. It was served with a Thai green chili sauce and a mustard sauce which had a bit of horseradish, which we enjoyed. (I would've ordered another helping of this to-go if we didn't have after dinner plans!) My main dish was the Lobster Lobster special which is a 6oz tail served on top of house made lobster ravioli. This dish did not disappoint! The sauce was creamy, buttery, and included sundried tomatoes and properly cooked asparagus and shrimp. My husband enjoyed his 16oz ribeye, which was properly cooked medium rare, and served over a potato cake. (The potato cake is like whipped, airy masked potatoes formed into a big ball, breaded and fried.) Excited to dine here again, as everything in the menu sounded enticing.

Bernardin's is a restaurant steeped in rich history. According to our excellent server, Josh, it was the first structure built in Old Salem, and it was moved to its current location. Sadly, we didn't get to eat inside the original structure, but we weren't upset once we saw the patio. The added patio seating had some great ambiance and was just the right temperature on a cool February evening. To begin, the table shared a few appetizers. We ordered the escargot, brussel sprouts, and tuna tuna. My boyfriend also ordered a cup of clam chowder, which he said was delicious. The escargot had an incredible sauce that was super dippable with the bread that was provided for the table. I'm always a huge fan of brussel sprouts, and these were no different. They were perfectly roasted and seasoned well with the soy bourbon molasse. The tuna tuna  was probably my least favorite of the three. Although the tuna was cooked perfectly, it wasn't very interesting to me from a flavor perspective. For my entree, I had the pan seared grouper special. I was a big fan of the purple carrot puree, and the acidity of the Mediterranean vegetable salad added a nice depth of flavor to the dish. However, I enjoyed the other dishes that some of my friends ordered much more. In particular, the sea scallops were divine! They were cooked perfectly, and the risotto was so creamy and comforting. The emu also deserves an honorable mention for being the most interesting item on the menu, and it tasted great to boot! We also shared some desserts at the end of our meal. Our spread included bread pudding, peach and blueberry cobbler, and strawberry shortcake. I wasn't a huge fan of the shortcake because it had the texture of a biscuit and was very dense. When I think shortcake, I envision a light, airy dessert, and this was not that. Of the three, the  bread pudding was my favorite, which could be because the cobbler burnt my tongue.  Overall, we had a lovely evening with excellent company and service. Although a couple of the dishes were a little underwhelming, I think I now know better what to order next time!

Was looking for a fine dining experience and that is definitely what I got from this establishment! From the ambiance to the service all the way down to the food everything was great. They have a great drink menu for those who like wine and they offer your standard bar drinks as well. I started off with the clam chowder which was probably some of the best I've ever had. The flavor was spectacular and the consistency was there as well, you can tell a lot of time was took to make it. As far as the entree I decided to go with the duck I must say I have never had duck that was my first time trying it. It was cooked to perfection and had a good char on it but I will say it's definitely an acquired taste pretty gamey to say the least but it was good I was just in a daring mood! Will definitely be back to try something different on their menu. Compliments to the chef you did your thing Thank you all for the experience you provided you've gained a new customer

We had a gift card to use for Bernardins and we always go out with a group of friends on Christmas Eve Eve so it was a no brainer we ended up here. We were pleasantly surprised at how good our dinner was. By photos online the entrees looked small so we were afraid we would leave hungry but the portions were a great size and everything was delicious! My husband said his ribeye was the best he's had at a restaurant and that's saying a lot. I got the lobster special and I'd order it again and again. It was our servers birthday so we had a good time bantering back and forth with her while ordering our drinks, apps, entrees, and dessert. Over all she was really funny and also a great waitress. We enjoyed her! We have added Bernardins to our list of favorite fine dining restaurants in Winston!

Most importantly, food was good. We were sat in the upstairs in a side room. Not bad, but didn't have a great vibe. Service was just okay. Disappointing to me was the lack of local, personalized cocktails. Put together a paired down list of 3-7 must try cocktails. Give me a taste of local creativity and your spin on the classics!

Filet mignon, rare. Perfectly cooked. Like butter. Sides were fantastic too.

Excellent food, great service and wonderful ambiance! We were in one of the cozy front rooms as a group of 8 and we loved it. We had many appetizers including the delicious calamari. My filet mignon was cooked perfectly, and the chocolate mousse cake was worth every calorie! The drinks were excellent too. I enjoyed a really lovely glass of French Pinot noir. Great place for a date night or a work dinner.

We went with another couple to celebrate my husbands birthday. We had a wonderful experience. We ordered the roasted chicken, filet and the lamb chops (which all was cooked and presented perfectly). We sat outdoors and it was toasty warm and comfortable.

What a pleasant surprise! Parking was a little tricky and finding the entrance was an adventure at night, but once we found our way it was smooth sailing. Alek was our server and he was absolutely 100% amazing. Dude was sharp as a tack, he took our complete order-- drinks, apps, entrees, didn't write down anything, went to another table and spoke to them for a few minutes and took THEIR ORDER and then I guess rang it all in. Everything came out perfectly timed and wonderfully delicious. My wife and I both ordered the specials. She got the lobster 2 times and I got the swordfish. Both were splendid. For an appetizer I ordered the jalapeño mussels. OMG y'all let me tell you they were to die for! The broth the mussels came in was so good I would snort it up my nose! My old fashioned was made with love and the Sauvignon Blanc went perfect with the fish. Thanks for a wonderful dinner if anyone reads this, it was the 1st time we had been on a date in ages and it felt really nice being taken care of so well. We will return.

Located in the Zevely House, the oldest house in Winston, Bernardins brings you a fine dining experience in a lovely location for you to enjoy with friends, date, or with family. Their staff is very attentive, friendly, and helpful from the moment you walk in, we had a smile on our faces the entire time we were there. Our server was on point with the recommendations in terms of food and wine. And the food was so delicious, very fresh, loved everything we order and the presentation was very nice. (My risotto was honestly the only thing I wasn't happy about but it didn't bother me that much because the rest of the food was delightful) What did we order? - Fried Calamari, Mustard Sauce/Thai Green Chili Sauce - Crab Cakes, Black Bean/Com/Chorizo/ Cilantro - Atlantic Salmon, Horseradish Crust/Spinach/ Sweet Roasted Garlic/Port Wine Sauce - Sea Scallop, Leeks/Sun Dred Tomato /Asparagus/Mushroom/Risotto/Chipotle Plum Vinaigrette

Staff is great, ambience is charming. It's a cool spot with good people. The food was pretty hit or miss. The loaded tots seemed interesting, but really...the just end up a little greasy and kind of unnecessary. Overall flavor is mudled and you don't really get anything by throwing duck on tots. I was hoping it would be one of those dishes that just magically work and are fantastic...but eh, kind of a let down. We also shared a bunch of other dishes. The pimento cheese sandwich was tasty but really hard to eat (the cheese pours out of it). We had their pasta, the duck sandwich (again. It was ok. Not great) the grain bowls seemed enjoyable, etc. We also got some desserts to share. The bourbon bread pudding again, was a pretty big let down. There was generally nothing bourbon about it. The chocolate tart was ok. The food wasn't bad, it just felt like some key items that they seemed to use to elevate their menu as a whole were just misses. But there are absolutely some solid dishes on the menu. The price is also a little high for what you get.

Located in a historic home that sits in the National Register of Historic Places, the restaurant has a classic feel that is well accompanied by a very polite, welcoming staff. The food was spectacular. We ordered the bread service, with the add-on bacon jam and tomato tapenade. The bacon jam is good enough to put on anything and it will taste amazing. We also ordered a delicious Caesar salad to spit. Both were so good I didn't get a chance to take a picture before we started eating. For our main course, my daughter ordered the braised pork shank from the regular menu and loved it. The pork itself was ridiculously fork-tender and the candied cabbage was an incredible sweet counterbalance to the savory sauce. Easily a 9/10 dish. For me, I ordered the Duck, which was perfectly cooked (rare), a great sear, and seasoned incredibly. I was torn on whether the star of the dish was the duck or the accompanying Brussel sprouts. Regardless, a very solid 8/10. The restaurant was very kind to gift us dessert for our special occasion. I had a very happy 10 year old when she saw the dessert plate arrive. Overall, it was an incredible dinner with delicious food at a beautiful restaurant that made my daughter feel like a princess. Can't wait to return!

The Pear Ginger Fizz cocktail was great! Light and fruity. It didn't taste like alcohol at all which is my favorite type of cocktail the Bread Service came highly recommended and for good reason! The bread options were numerous, and the spreads were a great pairing. We definitely had our favorites - whipped goat cheese and pimento cheese. However, I think it's worth it to get all 4 and find your tastes! My main dish of the Braised Pork Shank was plentiful - so much food!! The meat came right off the bone. I wish the red cabbage was plated with the meal (it came on the side in a bowl), but otherwise, it was a splendid meal. It also made for great leftovers the next day! The blueberry limoncello crisp had such a good flavor combo! The lemon was on the more sour side, but I still liked it. The sweet cream is chef's kiss! The service was very friendly!! Our waitress was kind, and she checked in at good intervals. There were some weird changes in lighting throughout the meal. We wish the lighting had stayed dimmed in the room we were in, but it wasn't a huge deal. Overall, a great place and a great meal for a date night! My husband and I had a lovely time.

This is in the heart of downtown Winston so parking is pretty limited but there are street spots and garages nearby. Service was good, prompt and friendly. We enjoyed a variety of cocktails and wines for beverages. Entree orders included steaks/filets, gnocchi and the fried chicken. The courses were paced nicely, giving us time to savor each bite and engage in great conversation. I really liked the Caesar salad with the fried artichoke and my filet was cooked medium as requested. The Mac and cheese side was delicious too, thick cheesy and super satisfying. I had some of my friends charred Brussels sprouts too and those were tasty as well. All in all, we were all happy with this pick! We cleared our main plates and sadly did not have room for dessert- next time! Gratuity is included (I assume it starts at parties of 6 or more). @azfitfoodfun

A friendly server brought us water and we were able to order drinks and appetizers. The restaurant on the ground floor was not large but it was very nice looking and modern. There is an upstairs that we didn't see. The waiting area is large which is nice because I imagine at time there is a wait. It is an upscale place though you saw a variety in patrons there. Anyway, we ordered the pot roast nachos and a cup of the soup du jour which came very quickly. Both were excellent and a great start to the meal. Someone decided to bring us bread that we didn't order which was nice. It was probably a good thing the server spilled the water at our table and gave us the bread for free since we didn't order it. again, anyway, the entrees came and they looked good. Seafood risotto was cooked well, not over done. And there was a lot of it. The fried chicken was also nicely cooked. Both were under seasoned and needed salt which is not my favorite when in a restaurant such as this. However, it is also understandable. Once we were done, our server informed us that they were treating us to dessert (because it was our anniversary) and brought us their warm brown with ice cream. It was delicious. We scraped the plate clean. It was a lovely meal and lovely evening.

I sat upstairs as there is only a bar downstairs and it was full. It was a Thursday so they had $.50 wings. They offer various flavors and order sizes for the wings so I went with the 8 piece lemon pepper buffalo. I also had the Henny Island cocktail and mac n cheese and fried okra for sides. I will be a return customer! FYI picture of food was taken after I started eating some of the mac n cheese lol

I had the dark meat fried chicken with collard greens, a fresh side salad, and mac & cheese that was honestly unforgettable. The chicken was fried to perfection -- crispy, crunchy skin that stayed put and juicy meat inside. The collards were seasoned just right, the salad was super fresh, and yes, the ranch passed the Midwest test. The mac & cheese was the real standout -- that perfect mix of creamy and baked that makes you want to order a second serving. On top of the food, the service was impeccable -- attentive without being pushy, and they never let an empty plate linger on the table. The whole experience felt elevated and stylish while still keeping the food soulful and comforting. If you love soul food (or even if you're just curious), you have to try this spot.
