Holy mackerel, the wait time for my appointment was ridiculous and borderline unacceptable. When I take time off of work expecting to be out for no more than an hour and my appointment ends up being 45 minutes late, I am immediately an unhappy camper. A tip that I learned unfortunately after experiencing this horrendous wait is that they do have free wi-fi so next time I will be bringing my laptop. That being said, once I got over the wait time (hence the docking of 1 star), I really thought that the Dr. Recht was great. He was quick, thorough and very intelligent. He definitely moves fast, so you have to be prepared with questions if you have them. He was able to quickly answer all of my questions and helped educate me on what to look out for on my skin. I will be returning despite the terrible wait. The staff was apologetic, but I think it is a little bizarre that they realize it is a problem and that they aren't doing something to solve it like a courtesy call saying they are running late or even an online portal that shows how many patients are ahead of you etc. etc. I guess that these are the things I expect since I work for a data company... haha. Even just telling people "We usually have a bit of a wait before appointments so bring something to do and we have wifi!" would have been super helpful as a new patient. read more

After being a patient here for 3 years I give up. Today, I had a 1:30 appointment and showed up on time. I waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, I had to go. After all, I have a day job. As I was leaving, the Doctor said, "Oh...I could see you new." I said, "Doctor, I could have seen you 30 minutes ago, 15 minutes ago, but now I have simply run out of time." Her reply: "Next time, if you're in a hurry, why don't you give us a pre-call and we'll see what we can do?" Hmmm...I think not. If you have lots of time to kill, come here. Otherwise, go to any other dermatologist. Finally, look at the photo that is associated with this practice: it shows a skeleton with a sign saying "And you think you've been waiting long?" I've had two experiences (both below average) with this office. Their staff greeted me by reminding me that they asked me to come 15 minutes early. I was about 5 minutes early for my appt because I got a little lost - that happens when it's your first time visiting a place. When the doc saw me, he asked some routine questions but seemed more interested in seeing his next patient than providing me services he was being paid for :). My second experience was when I tried to get a short notice appointment for a skin mass related to my first visit. The admin said she'll leave a message with the doc and call me back. I got a call back 5 hours later asking for more information. By that time I had already made an appointment with Dr. Jennifer Baron's physician's assistant the next morning. Made an appointment over the phone and provided them with my insurance information. I was told that I would get a call back after they checked the coverage but never got a call back. Didn't think it was a big deal, I must be covered, right? WRONG. Showed up for the appointment and after making me fill out all the papers, they simply held up my insurance card saying, "Errr... We don't cover this here." Wow. Seriously? Thank you for wasting my time when I did the most I could to provide you with all the information DAYS AGO. Now I have to live another week with a painful skin condition to set up another appointment elsewhere because you couldn't do your job right. If I could give him more stars, I would. I read about Dr. Bernard Recht on yelp and I just returned from my appt. Here's my thoughts! 1. The staff was very professional and friendly. Unlike most busy Dr. office the staff tends to be short and etc. Not so with Dr. Bernard's staff. Great on first impression. They get AAAAAA+++++++ 2.As I read and found out for myself, Dr. Bernard Recht is very knowledgeable, patient and a great listener (which is a big plus and rare for doctors these days). 3. It's obvious that he cares for his patients and really wants to provide them with much information as possible. From other doctors it's "In and out". It's like here's your problem and a prescription. See ya next time. My experience with Dr. Recht wasn't like that. He really wanted to know what my problem was, how it happened, prevention and solutions. 4. Have been a long-time patient of Dr. Recht. He is an excellent dermatologist with super bedside manners. Dr. Recht is always booked-out for weeks. Thanks to his office staff, I saw Dr. Recht yesterday for an urgent matter. Didn't have an appointment, but his staff and Jennifer were able to work their magic and squeeze me in at the end-of-the-day. Very thankful to the entire office. read more

First of all, his office has moved to 603 S Knickerbocker Dr. Sunnyvale, CA 94087. Since I only see him once a year for my exam, I always book my appointment as the first one at 9 am so the waiting isn't that bad. But until I did that, I too waited for hours. I often see a dr closer to home for more immediate issues since it's hard to get an appointment. This week, I found the people working there to be really difficult. I am not sure if they are new and training or just have no bed side manner. It really soured my experience but because he is so wonderful, I let it slide. read more

Dr. Recht is a superb practicing dermatologist (and I also guess a teaching clinician at Stanford); he is not only a board-certified physician, but also earned a Ph.D in microbiology. I have been a patient of his for well over 20 years, and I actually look forward to my annual checkup with him. From the beginning, he emphasized the importance of protecting the skin from the dangers of overexposure to UV energy from the sun, and I am happy that I have tried to follow his advice. He has a very personable, authentic and warm manner, and it is understandable that he is booked well in advance, but I also sure if there was an emergency, the very capable front desk could handle it. He now has an enlarged staff with other dermatologists and skin specialists in his practice, and they are all a crack, first-class team. And Dr. Recht has a superb cadre of physician assistants and front-desk staff to support him. In particular, Jennifer, Sheila and Alicia are always helpful, remembering patients and connecting with them as they visit, smiling and solving just about any booking, insurance or general patient problem that goes with the territory. Best dermatologist I have ever had. The wait sometimes can be an issue, but unfortunately that's pretty much predictable with any physician. I have been seeing dermatologists since my youth, and he's by far my favorite. The only one that actually was able to address and help me with all of my issues. A year to wait for an appointment? No Dermatologist is worth that wait. Creepy handcuffs on the examining room walls that are supposed to be a "joke" as a reminder to not never touch your face. As other reviewers have said, this doctor runs an hour late regularly. After waiting a year to see Dr. Recht I was told he was running an hour late. I told the staff that I didn't want to sit in the examining room buck naked and wait another 1/2 hour for Dr. Recht. I simply asked to sit in the waiting room until the doctor was "really" ready to see me. The staff agreed with me and then 1/2 later called me into the examining room and told me to undress. I sat in the exam room for another 1/2 hour freezing with the A/C blasting. Why did they put me in the exam room after I explicitly asked them not to make me wait there?? I got dressed, asked for my copay back and told the receptionist to tell Dr. Recht to get his act together. I never got a call back from this office regarding this and they just don't seem to give a crap about their patients. If you are a retired individual who has no schedule to adhere to and don't mind waiting an entire year for an appointment Dr. Recht is your perfect dermatologist! read more

Dr. Recht was on vacation so I saw his assistant Shilpa Vichare. I went in to take care of a couple of warts on my hand and some acne problems. The solutions she gave me for the acne caused my entire face and chest to break out. It was worse than anything I ever had before. In the end she ended up telling me to just use Neutrogena face wash! Next half of the warts that she froze came back and the other half scarred over. Then they had the audacity to bill this ten minute procedure as surgery! I was charged over $300 for "services" that either made my condition worse or didn't help at all. I would not recommend coming here to anyone. read more

After waiting a year for my appointment with Dr. Recht his office calls and cancels my appointment. The office rebooked me with a Dr. Harris after assuring me he was actually Dr. Recht's instructor. I researched Dr. Harris and he has fine credentials so I felt I was OK. Then three days before my appointment with Dr. Harris the office again calls and cancels my appointment. If Dr. Recht is a good doctor or not is a moot point because his practice of medicine seems to be only a lackadaisical activity for him and patient care is not a priority. I will be looking for another doctor immediately who still wants to see patients and practice medicine. read more

Unfortunately, I didn't get past the receptionist, Jennifer, to even see Dr Recht. I was calling for an appointment for my 92 y.o. Father-in-law. Firstly I was informed that he has "a number of missed appointments" - totally unprofessional to even mention that to me when I'm not the patient. Then I was offered a series of early morning appointments. I started to inform Jennifer that at 92, dad has a hard time getting to early morning appointments. She then offered another time, but because she spoke over me I didn't hear the time that was offered. I asked her to repeat the time and she yelled at me. Firstly, I don't appreciate anyone speaking poorly of my father-in-law, secondly, I don't do well with people who are rude in general and thirdly, I work in the healthcare industry. If the front desk is this rude and the doctor is accepting this kind of treatment of his patients, that doesn't speak very highly of the doctor either. If you're a new patient looking for a dermatologist, I'd recommend you keep looking. Unfortunately at 92, my father-in-law is probably stuck with this office - but someone else will be scheduling his appointments from now on. read more

Dr. Recht doesn't have time to waste on patients with actual medical problems. I had an appointment with Dr. Recht on 3/28/2016 because I was presenting rash-like, itching, deeply cracked, severely peeling skin around my mouth. This was an acute condition that had persisted for over 8 weeks. I had attempted to treat it by keeping it constantly moisturized with Vaseline, but it did not clear up (as would be expected if it were simply dry skin). Dr. Recht saw me for approximately 5 minutes. He did not take the time to listen to my symptoms or the efforts I had already tried to treat the problem. He gave me some Aquaphor, sent me on my way, and charged me $54. I followed his prescribed treatment for one week (he claimed it should clear up in three days or less). Needless to say, the Aquaphor worked no better than the Vaseline I had already been using, given that they are the same product simply branded differently. read more

Absolutely one of the worst billings experiences I've ever had with a doctor. I specifically asked before coming in if they accepted my insurance. While I was there I asked the billing/admin person at the front, the nurse, and the doctor to confirm that my insurance would cover what they were doing. Everyone told me it would. One week later I received a bill for additional services that were charges that my insurance wouldn't cover. It's not like I didn't ask (repeatedly). Instead, I was lied to. I suppose this is how they make their money (assuring customers into getting procedures done that will not be covered), but I'm not going to support them again in the future. I'd suggest anyone looking for a dermatologist find another one that will actually tell them when a service isn't covered by their insurance so that they can elect not to have that procedure done. read more

Dr Recht is by far the most knowledgeable and friendly doctor I've ever been to. He seems to be able to diagnose problems better than any doctor I've ever seen. When it comes to my body, I wouldn't take a chance with someone else. I'd wait any amount of time just to know that I'm in the right hands. His new office is REALLY impressive. We have been going to Dr Recht for a number of years. Looking at the reviews here, some I agree with some not. Agree with, yes it takes a long time to get a routine or a new patient appointment. But if there was a problem or urgent matter, it seems they have fit me in (although in all the years I think there has only been one time). Biggest disagreement (with the reviews here) is that when he gets into your room, to me at least, he seems totally focused you...I have NEVER noticed him trying to get out and off to someone else. He seems to be very efficient and focused in his approach to the exam and to any procedure. The office staff .... All of them are great to work with, well except one. I don't know her name, but she just doesn't seem like she even wants to be there, very dry almost not caring when asking questions for the doctor to address when he comes in, almost like it's a inconvenience for you to be there. I really try to not have her in my room. A harsh looking blondish woman, who doesn't seem to fit in with the nice flow of the office. Minus one star for her. Update: The blondish woman is no longer there, it seems a happier place! More peaceful for me, that is for sure! read more

Finally, reading online reviews decided to give a chance and his medicines did wonder in 6-8 months. Dr. Recht is the best dermatologist I have ever meet. My son has had very bad baby egzema since he was about 6 months old. I have brought him to about 3 different dermatologists. Then luckily we found Dr. Recht! So I made an appointment for my son to see him. When we went the Dr took a look at my son's skin, and prescribed a topical to apply. I told him that my son has been using the same topical and it didn't help him. So he said okay I want him to try the brand, do not substitute with the generic because the brand has a better base. What a blessing! The "brand" ointment has been working for my son. Til this day when ever we see a spot turning red we apply the topical ointment right away and next day the egzema goes away. I am so thankful for Dr. Recht. He must know of more secrets to share w/ his patients. I would never known that the brand has a better base. read more

I called in to make an emergency appt for my dad and the front desk lady, Michelle i think, took down all the info and i guess told the Doc what was going on. I got a return call from them a couple minutes later, and they referred me to another Doc, now i dont know if this was because Dr Recht thought that this other doctor was better suited to see my farther or he just didnt have time to see him, but either way i really appreciated the attention. I called twice and the staff were very friendly on the phone both times. When I got there all of the staff behind the desk were helpful - uipbeat (I actually ended up speaking with three of them). I had an appointment at 3:00pm and got there a few minutes early to fill out the paperwork (which was NOT massive). I was seated in the exam room at 3:00pm on the dot. I've had two visits with Dr. Recht and will not return. I arrived in time but had to wait for 55 minutes with no warning. In this modern day I do not have that much time in my schedule to squander on sitting around at a doctor's office. Particularly when it's listening to the doctor chit chat with the patient in the adjacent room, so much for patient privacy. In the end he flip flopped on his diagnosis from the prior visit. I am an occasional patient of Dr. Recht for mole removal. First time I had that procedure about 10 years ago and there are no traces of the scars! My last procedure was in August of 2012. I had to pay from my pocket, but I better do that than use my Kaiser insurance (very poor experience: painful and big scars). The work Dr. Recht did on my face can be compared with a work of a jeweler. The stitches were tiny, the whole procedure was painless including anesthetic injections, and the healing was fast. I also got a laser needle procedure for another skin condition for no additional charge. Dr. Recht is a kind doctor with a good sense of humor. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Recht's for many years as has my Mom. He has been attentive and pleasant and effective. However, since he has sold his practice to the California Skin Institute everything has changed. I received a bill today dated 10/10/16 (today is 10/16/16) denying all Medicare coverage and announced that my bill was "past due". Huh? What? I am cancelling my appointment for December that I made one year ago. I wish him well but I will never return. read more
