I had my tubal reversal in March, 2008. I was 35 years old and had been remarried for 8 years to a wonderful man who did not have kids. I already had 3 kids when we married.
I was very happy throughout the whole process. The staff is very friendly and they answered all my questions. As requested, I had my surgical report faxed to their office and after Dr. Rosenfeld reviewed my medical reports, he said YES, my tubes were a good candidate for reversal. It doesn't matter what method was used for the tubal ligation. It only matters how much tube you still have left after. I went to their office and paid the required deposit to get a date for surgery on our first trip. We were scheduled for surgery 3 months later. The balance is due the day before the surgery. I had a brief physical exam, lab work, and a patient history done. I then had a thorough discussion with Dr. Rosenfeld in his office. He explained to me the whole procedure. At that time, he informed me that the surgery itself would be performed by his experienced surgeon in training (on this particular method that he pioneered, not an intern). In other words, Dr. Rosenfeld was going to supervise only. He assured me he was going to be there during the whole procedure and was only the eyes for the whole surgery. I was okay with that. As long as Dr. Rosenfeld was there, I was good. I was advised of all the surgical risks and complications. The surgery was never promised to be 100% guaranteed as common sense says there are other factors that come into play when it comes to getting pregnant. I was then prescribed meds for nausea and anxiety, just in case. I did take the anxiety med the night before. It really helped.
The surgical facility was awesome! Staff is very friendly and the facility is clean with a pleasant atmosphere. I had to pay their fee and anesthetist (included with the $6,000 but their portion is paid by me directly). I had the surgery and came out just fine, with no complications. I opted to pay the extra money for a take home pain pump($120 extra, I think). It really did help with the pain and you don't need to go back to the office to have it removed. You pull out the thin tube yourself. I didn't feel anything! I live in the Texas Hill Country, so Houston was a far drive for us (5 hours). I felt well enough to make the drive home immediately after surgery. Healing time was fast. I felt back to my normal after only one week. I followed all of the doctor's instructions for after care. In late June,2008, I found out I was pregnant, only 3 months after the procedure. We were so excited! To be fair, I was also using Fertilityfriend.com, a website, to track my cycles, ovulation, and figure out my most fertile days. I was using the Clear Blue Easy Ovulation Predictor Kit, too. I notified Dr. Rosenfeld's office, and I was immediately booked for an appointment for an ultrasound, at no additional cost. It was confirmed that the pregnancy was not tubal. There wasn't much to see, but definitely a "bud" and yolk sac. I had my son Gabino prematurely at 33 weeks due to pre-eclampsia but he was home 3 weeks later. Five months later, in late June, YEP...I'm pregnant again. So we have Gabino, who is now 6 years old, healthy, and very tall. Alex will will be 5 years old next month and definitely my little whipper snapper. .My husband is an excellent hands on father and is very much in love with our sons, just like I am. THANK YOU DR. ROSENFELD! You made our dreams come true. My husband and I couldn't thank you enough! I also recommended Dr. Rosenfeld to a friend, and she also became pregnant within 6 months. By pure coincidence, I became friends with another patient of Dr. Rosenfeld's at the fertility website. She has two TR babies like I do. Turns out Dr. Rosenfeld is well known at Fertilityfriend.com!
Back in 2008, the surgery was $ 6,000. We had to pay "private pay". They do accept insurance and they offer links to medical loans and other sources of funding. The surgery is not cheap, but you can make payments. I can't remember at what dollar amount we had to be at to get the surgical date scheduled. Again, you must be paid in full the day before surgery. I recommend visiting his website for the CURRENT price, scheduling, rules, policies, etc. We had to make three trips. First, for the consultation, second, for the surgery itself (with a mini visit the day before to check vitals, lab work), and third, for the ultrasound after the positive pregnancy test. We spent about an additional $1,000.00 for gas, lodging (2nd trip only), and food during those 3 trips. It was well worth it.
I definitely recommend Dr. Rosenfeld, as he is the TOP NOTCH OB/GYN here in Texas! read more
