    Train platforms

I'll preface by saying--coming from NYC, basically every other developed country's urban public transportation systems are better, newer and more on-time/efficient, and Berlin's is no exception. It was a convenient and fairly easy train ride to arrive here via the FEX AirPort Express (flughaven express) lines or the RE8 regional express line. At the airport follow signs to public transit, and there are ticket machines where you can buy individual trips, or all inclusive tickets by geographic zone (AB or ABC) for a set number of days. The airport is in zone C (calculated as distance from central Berlin). Travel time to Berlin Hbf is about 30-35 min. Don't forget to validate your physical ticket at one of the yellow boxes that stamps your ticket prior to boarding. There's also an app you can download to purchase tickets digitally. Arriving to the station you alight on the upper level platforms which are partially covered and partially exposed to the elements on raised tracks. Follow the signs down to the ground floor and along the way there are plenty of shops and restaurants, it's basically a full shopping mall. There are about 4-5 main levels accessible via stairs, escalator or elevator. If you're looking to transfer to the subway that's in the lower basement level. Transferring to another regional train might be a bit confusing to find so there's a main info counter near the entrance on the ground floor. There's also a tourist center directly to the right inside the station main entrance. Trains are generally on time and they will post updated times if not, so don't dwadle in reaching your platform! Outside there are plenty of connecting transportation methods--buses, trams, and cabs/rideshare pickup areas. There is parking located in a garage under/adjacent to the station I believe, though it sounded fairly limited from reviews. Public bathrooms are available.

Arrived here from Frankfurt and also left here for Prague. The station is nice in that it's open, has lot of food options and gift shops. Was bit overwhelming for first timer visitor, but as we ended up here to take other subways, I got used to their layout and was able to navigate easily thereafter. Taking trains to other cities was simple and easy, the schedules are posted everywhere, so it was easy to find your way to the correct platforms.

Great station to travel through. Extremely clean and organized to some degree. It's one of my favorite stations in Europe to travel through. Communication could be a little better and transparent but other then that it's sufficient.

This is Berlin's Central Train Station and it is HUGE. Luckily, there is excellent signage and all announcements are in English in addition to German. The station has escalators and elevators and is very clean. The architecture at this train station is quite beautiful and modern. There are plenty of places to buy food too.

This was an easy station to come into from Cologne. The trains coming in and out were easy to locate. The station is modern and easy to navigate as well. This was a great starting point to take one way trains to Austria and to the Prague too.

If I could give this train company a negative rating I would. We did quite a bit of research on the Berlin to Prague train pass on the Eurocity train. I wanted to be flexible so didn't buy tickets until a few hours before. That was a big mistake although I'm not too sure. We couldn't purchase tickets at the train station kiosk because it was all in German which was understandable since we were in Germany. We took a number at the ticket office ( think DMV in the USA) after waiting about 30-40 minutes we were called up. The worker states she can sell us tickets but can't assign seats. Ride not sold out. We just need to wait until everyone is seated to take our seats We buy the 1st class seats since this is our bucket list trip. Twice the cost of economy. She tells us to be on the platform 10 minutes before. Luckily we are waiting there for hours to be sure. Was told by the conductor that 1st class was Section A and B. The train arrives 15 early and everyone piles on and guess what there's 20 people in 1st class that don't have seats. People are on top on each other. Elderly people are getting trapped in tiny spaces. Luckily a bunch of people decide they can't take any more of this and get off the train on the next stop. We have one seat that my husband and I share and gave another older lady a seat since we feel bad for her. People were sitting on their suitcases for 4 hours or on the floor. I get up to check the economy cabins and they are worse than our cabins. Probably the worse experience I've ever had. So many men stood for 4 hours to let women and children sit! Crazy that we paid for 1st class and that's what we got. The lady that checked our tickets ( staff) just laughed! The only redeeming thing about the experience was that everyone in our cabin was so kind and understanding. I wished I would have taken more pictures but honestly couldn't get my phone out. Would not recommend!

This place is absolutely huge, and also pretty modern as well. In fact I don't think I've been in a railway station as big as this before, though maybe it is also the modern feel about it because some the the stations in England and France are pretty big as well. The interesting thing is that this station has railway lines going out in all four directions, which is quite interesting, which basically means that the lines are on multiple levels. Mind you, getting outside can take quite a while as well, as I found out when I was last here.

This place charges you 1 Euro to use the bathroom, what a rip off! If you are not local then you are gonna have a hard trouble figuring out the route and the wagon assignment for the trains. The instructions do not provide too much details and there are too much that you need to know before you end up waking up in another country. I wish they could make instructions a bit easier to understand... For some reason locals already know by heart how the system works, the hours, the A, B, C, D, E sections, and others. I couldn't find any of those information in the available billboards that they have. Wish they could provide those info with more details and more available to the public...

Berlin Hauptbahnhof is a huge Railway Station, located in Central Berlin, it also includes a metro station and a kind of shopping centre with so many places to eat and drink, and a few shops, a few of the places located here include Currywurst, Spar and Starbucks. This station opened in 2006, so is pretty modern and is mainly a whole glass building as you walk in, with multiple lifts in central locations, however one thing I disliked about the lift was how hard it was to navigate the floors and a lack of a plan to show what shops were where in the station and where one can actually get trains from, it seemed that the trains were on the higher and lower levels, some of the trains also included double-decker trains, and some of them seemed to go to international destinations such as Prague, with that route taking 4 and a half hours. The station also has a metro-station which is on the U55 line which consists of the Brandenburg Tor and Bundestag locations, which are two main features and touristy points in the Berlin capital. The lack of staff around the station and the confusing layout really did let it down, and in a way this train station didn't feel like a train station and it simply felt like the main purpose it was built for, it didn't serve as a priority which was a shame, this is an impressive building and a decent train station, although branches of some stores located here such as Starbucks, Vapiano and CurryWurst Express were terrible branches of the chain, but I do feel Berlin Hauptbahnhof station at least deserves a three-star rating.

Historically,…read moreit was fully in East Berlin but during the Cold War it was still served from S-Bahn and U-Bahn lines from West Berlin and countries west of the Iron Curtain, hence this has been quite commonly used in popular culture especially associated with Communism, for example this station was even used in the Call of Duty: World at War game. As a station however, I really don't like this place, I find it to be rather old-fashioned and have a rather confusing layout, I entered through a lift and then I needed to get another lift to the other trains, which was out of order, there was no signs to show this until you got to the lift in the station, and even then it wasn't clear. The station staff didn't speak very good English, hence communication was a struggle with the very limited staff members working, for example, they couldn't help redirect me for my journey or even offer help or suggestions, and they didn't even seem to make any attempt at trying. The location is decent with a few shops including a Starbucks nearby also. I also managed to use the "Metro" part of the station, this was okay, it was a typical metro station again, and it wasn't the nicest, cleanest or most modern of metro stations, which basically sums up the train station as a whole. Unhelpful staff, elevator issues and confusing layouts sadly warrant a single one-star rating for Bahnhof Berlin-Friedrichstraße Station in my opinion, which is a shame as this station has a historical element to it, due to its involvement in being one of the few stations in East Berlin, to have services into West Berlin and the Iron Curtain countries (West of course) during the time of the Cold War, but for now sadly deserves a single one-star rating.

Quite convenient when you need something to eat on the rush. So it really convenient to get around berlin from here. What I don't really like is the transmit system inside. The infomantion isn't that clear for the people who is on rush. It surey take some time to find the right way to the right direction. Especially if you need to change from S1 to S7, S75 those train. My suggestion, stay in the middle or follow where most of the people going. Beside than that, the station itself also seem bit dirty.

It is located on the U55 line which is quite useful for connections into Bundestag and Berlin Central Station, the overall journey across the line from Brandenburger Tor to the Hauptbanhof (Central Station) is 8 minutes and as I recall, this is the only line this station is on, meaning most likely you're going to have to visit another train station to change, being one of those two, to get the metro into Brandenburger Tor, perhaps because of this, it might just be easier to get the bus as I found to be easier when traveling from my Hotel. I called at this station by chance, hoping to get into Central Station so I used the U55 line to go the full length of the train route which is 8 minutes. There did appear to be one end of the station cornered off, which probably was the place you would get off the train for the U55 here at Brandenburger Tor, so they appeared to be turning and using the other plaform for some reason. This metro station did also seem bright and modern, it didn't seem old, dark and smelly like some trains on the network and also had lift access, warranting a solid three star rating which is supported by the location being meters away from the Brandenburg Gate. 3 star rating due to reasons discussed above, sadly I don't feel it is worth any higher as the station remains understaffed and of course it is only on the U55 line.
