Mike just completed our landmarked Victorian house, and I could not be happier, start to finish, with what he and his crew did for us. --Mike was attentive to our requests from the start, deferring appropriately to my wife's aesthetic vision and our historical constraints, but also, when asked, weighing in with expert and useful opinions on decisions. The plan was clear, but also built in adaptability, like when they'd paint different sections in slightly different ways to 'test drive' how colors play against each other differently, and even tested out different varieties and configurations of gold! All this led to the end result on the five color plus gold accents paint job turning out better than we had envisioned. -Mike and his crew did the job like clockwork, with impressive skill. From setup to prep to final detailing, everything was calmly and precisely executed. Their process is clearly borne of years working together. For us, everything was carefully hand painted, no spray guns, and the details clearly show the experience and skill they bring to the job. -Energetically, it was such a relief. These guys are pros, sure. But they are also very pleasant, calm people. Even though they spent 4 weeks on our property in close proximity to the family, the property felt calm and strangely undisrupted in spite of all the scaffolding and ladders. I've had many contractors do great technical work, with a snarl, and in this market sometimes it feels like you have to take what you can get. With Mike you don't have to choose - smiles all around. -And most importantly, the result is exquisite. Clear lines, super details, great colors, top of the line materials, and If all that wasn't enough, Mike's quote was very reasonable - I am so glad I didn't try to save a little money going with the low ball option, and maybe missing out on such stellar service and results. Unbelieveable. I walk out the front door look up and there it is...meldew under the eaves. I feel violated. How did I contract this dreaded disease? I call Mike Reardon who comes over and examines the victim. He reassures me. He comforts me. He sprays the eaves with anti-mildew treatment and makes me whole again. He gave me a good estimate and came in under the estimate and on time. The work was beautiful. This was about the fourth painting job he has done for us. Writing to you from the just painted "bunny house" of North Berkeley where Mike's crew has done an amazing job restoring my 1923 living room and dining room. (I wonder how many earthquakes we have had since that ceiling was built.) Gabby and David are the plastic surgeons of walls, removing all the crumbling old plaster and setting up a beautiful new surface. This job was all about trim and they turned miles of wood into gloss. Our house is a Berkeley "classic" - original structure from 1890, addition in 1930, further work in 1970. Mike Reardon's team painted the exteriors of our house and they were outstanding. Had our house painted by one of those companies that is always advertising and sending stuff in the mail. What a mistake! They talked a good game but within a year - or less - we could see everywhere they did sloppy prep work because there were rust stains and peeling. Luckily, friends raved about Mike and Berkeley Painting. Mike painted our house a bit over a year ago, and it still looks like brand new. I had worked with a designer on the colors for the house, but thanks to Mike's great ideas, the designer choices went out the door and Mike came up with the most beautiful color choices ever. As the transformation took place, cars would stop just to say "Wow your house looks so beautiful! Can I paint my house the same colors?" Mike works with his crew and all were so polite, respectful and never left a mess at the end of the day. Using 3 colors, this took time, and precision, and the job was more than can could ever hope for. Don't bother checking with the other companies. Let me save you the time, as I checked in with 5 different companies. Got the span of fees to do the job, threw out the low cost and the super high cost, and Berkeley Painting was the reasonable provider of services. Mike makes you feel like you've know him for years, and you'll be so happy you gave him the job. He ended up painting 3 other homes in my area due to his fairness of price, and excellent work. We needed our house painted again and we called Mike at Berkeley Painting. He had done a good job for us ten years ago, so we knew his rates were reasonable and he he did excellent work. He came over and gave us a written estimate. When we asked him for an end date on the job, he added it to the contract. He finished when he said he would. The work was detailed and excellent. He has the proper tools for the painting, and for repairs that were needed. He, and his employees are courteous and professional; they treated my wife, who handled most of the negotiations, respectfully. He has my highest recommendation. read more
