This was our third visit to Beppe's in two years and we still love it. In previous years there was a grocery area and a second room for dining. This year there was only the grocery area and outside tables. The assortment of cheese and cured meats was beautiful and impressive. We sat outside on a warm spring evening and had our favorite melted robiola and a wonderful plate of salumi. The robiola came wrapped in parchment. When you untied it there was a bowl of delicious melted cheese with a touch of honey along with a basket of bread for dipping. The quality of meat on the salumi plate was superb. From the mild and sweet ham to the spicy salumi. The wait service was great, setting up an extra table for us. Reservations are highly recommended. I'm looking forward to eating there again on my next visit to Rome. read more

One of my favorite spots in the Jewish ghetto. I stumbled across it by accident while walking into the center where all the restaurants are. I loved this spot so much I ended up here on four separate occasions. This shop has fresh cheeses, artisan breads, a selections of wines and they even have a menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I stopped by for their breakfast and ordered their prix-fixe options of espresso, bread, ricotta and honey. It was only €5 and it was perfect! A good amount of food and great quality. For lunch I tried their prosciutto plate and mixed goat cheese board and ordered their sourdough bread basket. The prosciutto was melt-in-your-mouth and the cheeses were delicious and varying in style and taste. You can't go wrong with pairing their selection of wines by the glass, but feel free to ask for a recommendation! read more

This place is super cute and I really was excited to try it but after walking in and clearly seeing the server holding a napkin to her cheek after obviously popping a zit, that's where I draw the line. Keep that kinda thing behind the lines and out of sight of your customers. Maybe tend to your acne before you come to work but that's the last thing I want to think about when diving into some Brie. read more

YOU MUST COME HERE. While exploring the Jewish Ghetto my wife and I stopped into Beppe because we noticed they have a natural wine selection. Matteo helped us pick out a few wines (which were amazing) and then we stocked up on cheese and meat. We had a wonderful night drinking and eating on our rooftop, so we stopped by to visit Matteo the next day for lunch. Man, this was the most fun meal we had in Rome! We didn't even have to order. Matteo brought us wonderful dishes that included mozzarella that was made the previous day. We ended up hanging out for a while (2 bottle of wine)! Matteo was a wonderful host. Cheese & charcuterie heaven! We were wandering by and all the cheese caught my eye - and once I realized where we were (this joint was already on my radar) I made a beeline straight for the deli case. We didn't eat in, but ordered a couple of meats and cheeses to go. The staff, while not overly friendly, was very patient with us, letting us have as many samples as we wanted until I began to feel guilty about not being able to make up my mind. Although they offer cheeses (and meats, presumably, although I'm not entirely certain) from all over Europe, we focused on the Italian-produced ones and left with a salty, funky, soft blue and a semi-hard cheese, plus some proscuitto crudo and cinghiale salame. They also offer wine and many jarred delectables like truffle butter, oils, and preserves. I loved that they focus on smaller, natural producers, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality. It was great to have locally-made snacks at our Airbnb for the next few days! read more

This is the place for meats and cheeses. I know there's a more famous one a few blocks away but theyre way more customer oriented here. The folks try very hard to help you out and greet you with a smile. Turns out one of the guys sister lives where i went to school. Small world. They Produce many of the fheeses in house. That's insane. Then there's the selected cured meats and wines. Id hit this every day if i had the time. The smoked ricotta is insane. Very frustrating experience. We walked 17 minutes out of the way just for the reviews. The gentlemen who offered us cheese tried to over charge us before we sat down. He offered meat and cheese for 2 for $30 Euro or just cheese for $15 euro. As soon as we sat down we noticed the sign that offered meat and cheese for 1 with bread and a drink for 12 Euro. We brought it to his attention and he pretended he's never seen the sign before.. very disappointing so we left. read more

We stopped for lunch. The place was a delight. We had the lunch special-sharp pecorino cheese that melted in your mouth with a small but satisfying dish of pasta and salad misti. It also came with a glass of wine and caffe and a biscuit for desert. I highly recommend it. read more

Heaven. Cheese heaven. This place is not for the faint-hearted or the lactose intolerant. Went for dinner and had 3 fabulous courses of cheese. Started with the Buratta (WOAH), then had a pear and chevre salad, then we did the Beppe cheese plate. Loved their wine selection and their prices. So cool that they don't have a restaurant mark up. We told our super nice server, Flavia, that we were looking to spend between 20-25 Euro on a bottle and that we like things from Montalcino. She picked us out a DOC Rosso di Montalcino priced at 12.50 Euro and she said, "it's good, trust me, you don't have to spend 20!" Loved that honesty! And she was right, it was delicious! Definitely go to Beppe if you are in the ghetto... go to shop for good cheeses/wine or go for dinner! read more

I want to use add the word "fantastic" in describing this fantastic cheese shop, but Benjamin P has already taken it in his review. We bought cheeses, sausages, and bread to take back to our apartment. We had great assistance from behind the counter, ending up with a wonderful assortment of Italian cheeses ans sausages for the evening, from fresh soft Caprottini goat cheese to stronger Savoiarda cow's milk cheese. And a delicious unleavened bread whose name I'll never remember. I highly recommend this as the perfect cheese shop in Rome. read more

I couldn't find the place I was looking for so I decided to give these cheese place a try for lunch. First impression was that it seemed new and modern and very clean. The dining area is cramped like a lot of other places in Rome. Service was slow though the staff were friendly. Eggplant with ricotta and tomatoes was delicious! So fresh was the ricotta. The Barbera wine was perfect with it. Amazing panna cotta. This is the kind of place I would go to every week if I lived nearby! Highly recommend it. Stopped here twice during my stay. Second time had dessert and bought a magnificent bottle of red wine and an amazing selection of cheeses to take back to the hotel. read more

Fantasic place for fantastic cheese and wine! After long days of eating the same pasta / pizza / tourist food in Rome, it was nice to find a specialty cheese shop off the beaten path. Beppe is located in the Ghetto, West South-West of the Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II (the "Wedding Cake" building), and can be easily found by walking North West, along the ally, from the Portico d'Ottavia. The cheese sampler was more than enough for two people, and they have a wide selection of wines. Recommend heading there with your travelling companion for lunch or early supper, and enjoying the Italian ambiance and quality food without the obnoxious crowds / inflated prices / etc. I am definitely a cheese snob, but this place still rocked my expectations. We have enjoyed the wonderful food and friendly service here before now. This time, we arrived to find our reserved table ready and then... nothing. This is a tiny place - maybe 10 tables - but after nearly half-an-hour without even seeing a menu, of being ignored by the waiter every time he passed, we walked out and found another place down the road. We hoped they might even call us (they have the number from the reservation) with an apology or explanation, but no. I'd like to think there were some special circumstances to account for this uncharacteristic failure, but we'll never know. read more
